What was this unusual car from Matra?
Was Matra Rancho a French attempt to compete with Range Rover or show the Brits they went wrong way with the concept of sensible and simple off road vehicle?
Did it actually start an SUV trend or was it way ahead of time to be able to do that?
And most importantly - is Rancho (Ranch) really cool youngtimer to own now or an oddball you should pass on?
All of this and more I’m trying to find out and show in this film!

Can't have copied the Disco look, as it was built from 1977. The Discovery came out in '89.

One of the best SUV s made it whent nearly every where the Range Rover whent but at a sensible price I never got stuck at any time either in snow or off road! 99.9%of range rovers Never went off road the Rancho was the First one ,mime had scuttle lights you could only use them stationary

I always liked this car, the Rancho as it was called in Holland. It starred in the popular Dutch 80’s children TV show ‘Bassie & Adriaan’. Further enhancing the cars popularity in the Netherlands. it’s a pity they all rotted to dust. Except yours! Nice video. Keep it up!

I haven’t found any info about AC equipped Ranch. Don’t think it was ever fitted with such luxury feature 😅 TESerge is right - it’s French after all 😅
