Oooo, I loved everything about this post. I don't read a lot of horror but you made me interested in the first one. And I'm definitely up for the films. Your take on the second book sounds on point.
Thank you so much!!! I love horror films but I didn’t really get into reading horror until last year for whatever reason so I still have way more film than book recs so I have to wedge them in somehow 😅 I don’t necessarily expect immaculate politics from horror books but I do kinda expect them to be transgressive in some way and doing the states work for them is the opposite of that??
It’s sooo fun! If you like the sound of that, I’d also recommend Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes which is a one take time travel sci fi filmed on an iPhone and also Japanese! Not horror but I’m just a sucker for fun filmmaking ☺️
13:06 well thanks for spoiling it :/ I had similar issues with The Siberian Incident by Graig Beck. Tons of that 80s “kill the commies” Rambo stuff, sort of just withering with the contrast of contemporary times. The Remaking, on the other hand, sounds wonderful. Let’s Scare Jessica to Death was incredible! Some of the aesthetics even reminded me of Valerie and Her Week of Wonders.
Uh oh. To be clear, I identify as a Kate Bush stan before identifying as an American. Clay McLeod Chapman watched my review and said LSJTD was actually his key inspiration for the vibes?? I’m shook!
