Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.
We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)
So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.
Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this channel to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.
4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time!
After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time international traveling! And now we are in our 9TH YEAR of finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)
We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!

I used to get coffee every morning for my wife, she’s been gone 3 years now, I miss doing it, I miss her. Seeing you do it for Kara is bitter sweet. I’d give anything to be able to do it again.

I’m only about halfway in, but two thoughts: 1. Ted Lasso is awesome. I’ve watched all the way through at least 4 times and I discover new insights each time. Love. 2. Kudos for Nate’s correct pronunciation of ‘bruschetta.’ Bravo. ETA a number 3. I’ve missed a train in Chicago before even though I was at Chicago Union Station ahead of my train’s departure. To anyone reading this - don’t mess around and get there plenty early. Since many trains originate in Chicago, they handle things a little differently there. They will call your train in the grand hall and then will escort you as a group to the train. Learn from my mistake, which resulted in a long uncomfortable Greyhound bus ride. Don’t miss the train!

They have tons to do, especially the tours, which are amazing. I did eat at Pequods and I gave it 10\10. The sunset tour from Navy pier on a sailboat gives you an awesome view of the skyline. Both sides of the media like to give you lots of negatives about Chicago, and honestly I don’t live there so I can’t tell you, but I can say that I never had any bad experiences while visiting.

14 years ago I did Amtrak from Boston to Portland OR, and back a week later. Was on the Empire Builder for the Chicago-Portland legs. Also in the 1st class sleeper like yours. It was a great experience.

I love trains, I love the view in them. I used to travel, in school. Trains are what I love, I enjoy seeing cities and towns. I'll see the world again

I grew up in Rugby, ND and used to take the train all the time to Seattle to visit family. So cool you got to pass through. And by the way, it's Mie-Not, like Tie Knot lol.

So much fun. I wish I could take a longer train ride. Traveled from Washington, DC to Connecticut and mid way I got motion sickness. It was terrible. Thank you for sharing this adventure. Can’t wait to see the next one.

You need to do an entire Chicago trip/episode. I'm from California and flew there for a wedding. I was blown away. Actually want to go back and explore more. It's a cool city for sure.

Fellow WA friend here! If you go to Leavenworth stay at the post hotel!!! It’s stunning relaxing and adults only hotel that’s basically staying at a spa all day. You wear comfy robes the whole time and get to relax at the indoor outdoor pool listening to calming music. Also Leavenworth does a big Christmas lighting during November/ December and has a beer festival during Oktoberfest. ❤

excited for the VIA journey, I was a freight conductor/engineer for Canadian National for 6 years, and got to see a lot of the rail line in BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan you guys will/have gone through between Kamloops BC and Melville SK. Have fun!

I agree with Nate about being stuck somewhere…especially on a train or plane…I am able to disconnect and relax best on a long haul flight. Have only done a sleeper train once…to Scotland, and it was a joy.

As someone from North Dakota, I've heard Minot (My-not) pronounced many different ways. When you get a chance to come to North Dakota, you need to go up to the International Peace Gardens on the North Dakota/Manitoba border. Its a beautiful place to visit.

Sleeping on a moving train sounds like the perfect night of sleep for me! I love sleeping on moving platforms, lol. Used to fly in a C-130 a lot and get the BEST sleep. Just rocks me right to sleep

I spent 3 weeks at the campground beside the tracks at Tioga, waiting on the weather to straighten out to finish cutting wheat. Never saw amtrak go by, though. They were moving dirt to build the refinery at the time.
