Best motor ever

Well... at least you know it's not a bad computer board, clogged electronic fuel injection or external oil pump. Man, there's nothing like the smell of one of those old motors first cranking up....brings back memories ..... did your dad used to cuss it when it didn't crank on the first couple pulls?

Long as she is pissin and runs as good as it does it will be fine. Always enjoy watching!

I have the exact same motor. I've owned it since 1976 and it still runs as good or better than a new one. It only sits a few months during the winter without running so I don't have the old gas in the carb issues.

Rebuild the carb ,clean out the fuel pump clean and re gap the points

Seems like it will run , a little elbow grease and it'll be humming right along Great project man I really enjoy seeing a project come together

Nothing wears me out faster than pulling on a pull start. It sounded real good when it ran though!

Sounded really good for not starting in that long of a time. I think the Beer and the snuff helped.

Pull the flywheel and clean the points. Replace if suspect as they can corrode. Also replace the two condensers they are cheap. Check the plug leads where they go through the advance plate as they crack and earth out after years of movement. The only other thing is to sync the throttle cam to advance plate correctly (research net all the info on how is there). Check float level correct and that's it. These motors are reliable, easy to repair and are now vintage and worth hanging onto. I recently did over 40 miles of river cruising including shooting a few rapids and the 9.5 handled it np. The top speed was around 15 mph or about 14 knots.

You probably figured this out by now, but the thermostat is stuck open on that motor. Started pumping water immediately. You'll get a lot of carbon buildup due to it running cool. A guy gave me a 73 with low hours and the thermostat was stuck open on it too. Runs great though.

Great work and video I have the same engine a 72 Johnson 9.9. Was starting right up one pull and not getting spark now. Tired pulling out plugs and cleaning still nothing. Have had to hold the throttle to start as hard as I can to get it to start but now not working. Starting in neutral with contact on shifter.

The dip of snuff and cold beer get it going for sure

Oh heck no, I get tired just starting the weed wacker these days lol. Just can't beat a Johnson tho. Carb cleaning and you might be good.

What size is the fuel line fitting that connects to the motor?

Did you end up getting this little motor sorted mate?

I have the same but our pull rope won’t come out do you have any ideas on how to fix that

What is the starting instructions on this type of motor

I have same motor it has fire and getting gas but will not even pop much less start any suggestions

What fuel did you used? 1:50 or ... ?

We’re you able to keep it running after the carb and fuel pump rebuild

So do.i put the handle on start , with it in neutral , then if it rolls over i move handle to shift ? Mine will start and then stall out Thanks
