That's actually the most amazing drag race I've seen so far. It could have gone either way, really. .003 seconds of a split time is only because the driver of the Nova may have just shifted one of his gears wrong or the fact that maybe the power to weight ratio is only slightly less than the Mustang's. There are many factors that may be contributing, but all in all, great race
A shot of nitrous would fix that. Hit the switch in second gear, and bye bye Ford. I'm hoping they had a rematch that got onto here with the Nova getting the win it deserves.
@RapturedPain Also you can hear towards the end of the video the guy says "He treed him"...If you can look a little closer at the Nova's elapsed time..Right above the word "Hemi" is a small box. Once the time goes up, the box lights up..Just look a little closer..I hope u see it this tim

The rear end is a Moser 12 bolt factory length housing.Its got Caltracs, Rancho shocks,their brand front shocks & Calvert racing split monoleafs 2or3 sizes above stock height with Global West bushings & shackles,29x10 slicks.Anybody starting from scratch I'd go 1-2 sizes above ride height & run 9" rim w/9" slick to lower the ass end.Had the car mini tubbed & ladder bar coilovered recently.I'll have more videos this spring
all i gotta say is i would fucking die to ahve ur motor in my camaro i wish i could get the engine specs but each motor is a unique motor and im jealous beautiful car man beautiful.
@badbob406 --- You didnt say what kind of car but any 12 Bolt needs good after market axles and c-clip eliminator kits at the very least. That kind of power you need to consider a spool over the GM posi unit. It will break the spider gears. You already mentioned welding the axle tubes. I haven't raced in a few years and am not familiar with new modifications that may be out now. Hope this info helps some.

I thought a win is decided by E.T.? Please explain, as i'm really not that familiar with drag racing. Are the rules different for this race? The Mustang is clearly the faster car, it had a better E.T. and a slightly faster trap speed....?
So basically, what ever advantage one driver gains off of the starting line, the other driver has to overcome that deficit and still go faster in order to win the race
Drag racing is Not who has the faster et or trap speed but it is who crosses the finish line first !!! And that was the Nova as was indicated by the win light on the right side
To ALL the novice amateur's who are blind or dont know better. The Nova actually won the race because he got there first. They are racing in a bracket class 9.50. the Nova tree'd him and got there first but the mustang ran a faster time. THERE IS A REMATCH VIDEO BUT THE MUSTANG IS PAINTED A DIFFERENT COLOR. Chevy power all the way!!!!!

@fuhmeregan yeah but what was he running under the hood? If it was a 302 thats kind of sad for the Nova if its running a 434. Most likely he was running a 351 or a stroker though and the ligher engine in a lighter car would help him get off the line sooner.
Well the driver u can tell was scares to punch it also he showed off which is karma but if it was a good driver that nova should of went off by w wheels at first not saying the mustang isn't fast but the nova is a beast
You're another person who knows nothing about drag racing!!! Do you even know what a "Hole Shot" is?? If you did, you would know that the Nova won on a Hole Shot! Listen to the guy at the end of the video as he says "He treed him" Meaning that yes, the Mustang had a quicker elapsed time, but the Nova had a quicker reaction time and therefore got him the win. Please know what you're talking about before you comment!!!
What rear end do you have? If it's a 12 bolt, what kind of modifications does it have. I have a 12 bolt and need to know the cheapest and best way to upgrade it to hold 650-700 hp. Weld axle tubes, are there any ways to brace the rear to strengthen it? I know Mark Williams has some wicked parts, but they're very pricey.
@10Gfighterpilot didn't say my 289 was stock but its one hell of an engine to play with. chevys dont leak oil but I get enough shit for being a ford fanatic and after the number ive beat, i have a right to give my peace honestly. my brother with his 71 nova will disagree. my 69 boss 429 would say otherwise. then again, 454s got a lot to say. peace my friend
is this a good price for a 1979 nova 377 motor, 350 stroker transmission, rebuilt hole shot converter, new, paint, new, rubber, new carpet, new tires, runs well, 10 bolt rear, please reply this is my first chevy nova and i dont know if its worth it. please help!!!
