This is a video about the arrival of the 73 (1947 Baldwin) Steam Locomotive in Skagway, Alaska on June 29, 2019. For the past year and a half further restoration was being done on the locomotive by the Newell Corporation in Arlington, Washington. The engine was unloaded at the Alaska State Ferry Dock by Jeff Hamilton, the owner of Hamilton Construction. Once the trailer with the locomotive was placed over the rails at the Broadway Dock, a steel transition ramp was welded to the trailer. As the White Pass and Hamilton Construction Teams began to undo the chains and binders, they discovered that the steel I-beams and supports were welded to both the trailer and the locomotive. It took a few hours of grinding and cutting to separate the two. A large front end loader with a steel frame and coupler finally pulled the 73 back onto the the rails at around 2:00am. Kudos to Glen Sullivan, Lars Lawson and the rest of the White Pass and Hamilton Constructions crews for a job well done! Rather than edit this down, I decided to include all of the video I shot that night. Enjoy! Keith
