Known for his entertaining, educational, well-produced, and downright fascinating videos, 74gear (Kelsey) has shown the world just how exciting it can be flying the 747; and it's bigger, more rare cousin, the Dreamlifter. Join me, LO, as I sit down with 74gear via Skype on the other side of the plane. We talk about his RU-vid channel, his life flying around the world, his expansion into more social media, and a well known and controversial debate currently raging online involving intellectual property of plane spotters and "repost pages" on Instagram!
Please follow me on Instagram, at @LOaltitude, and subscribe to my podcast, Aviation LO Down on iTunes/Apple Music, Spotify, and wherever else you may get your podcasts!

About Me:
My name is David Lombardo, perhaps best known as the former face of ATC Memes. I have a deep passion for aviation, music/audio, video, building relationships, learning, and encouraging people to share their own unique stories! I attended Purdue University and majored in
aviation management, and later found myself working at the New York Center air traffic facility. This is when I decided to create video and audio skits related to aviation. These productions went viral, and arguably introduced an entirely new format of entertainment into the industry.
I would later leave ATC Memes and create my own brand, @LOaltitude, and the popular aviation podcast, Aviation LO Down.
I encourage people to share their own creative side in the exciting world of the aviation industry!

There needs to be a gap bridged between Atc and pilots so they grasp eachothers plight.

What I remember from the Malcolm Gladwell account is that by having to speak Engligh instead of Korean is that it avoids having to use honorific pronouns when addressing superiors which makes it more likely that crewmembers will speak up if something doesn't look right.

They're working on that with CRM . Teaching copilot & capt. To communicate with eachother. if the junior pilot can tell the senior one if he's doing something unsafe or forgot to put the landing gear down in time.

@@sharoncassell9358 CRM was adapted after they found that the major plane crashes in the 1970s was due to pilot/crew error as opposed to major mechanical issues. The Asiana 214 plane crash occurred in 2013, well after the establishment of CRM, although the incident did have an impact on the teaching and use of CRM.

Okay, I think I misunderstood at first, he's talking about downloading and re-uploading, not sharing from original pages or accounts, right? Makes ALLOT more sense now..I didn't catch that when I watched 74's video.. I was doing something else as I watch. I love Kelsey's videos btw, when I first found his RU-vid, it was like falling into a rabbit hole. I happen to look at the time and was like F*** I have to get ready for work, WTH just happen? It was just 7pm (11 hrs ago) a few minutes ago!

Kelsey uses other people’s content on his channel all the time. I wonder if he always obtains permission and pays for the content?

Do you think ATCs will he replaces by computers? I want to be one, but it will be about 7 years before I’m done with school, training, and all the other things I have to do first. Do you think it is still worth it to try and be an ATC or are there alternative paths you think I should take?

we always need more air traffic controllers, its an essential job thats not going anywhere. Never give up on your dreams bud. i have faith that you can do this!

The first thing that will go automated will probably be the railroading system. So until that starts to pick up, I reckon us aviation folk don't have too much to worry about.

I don't think the robot can replace air controllers. They are essential. Even if planes go auto they'll still need you.

Even if AI could replace ATCs now, it would take decades for all airports to convert. In fact, some would never convert, for the same reason they still don't all have ILS.

18-34 + one 74-year-old woman who hates flying, but loves learning and laughing about it. Slight skew in the demographic.

Pilots should be controllers. When a pilots eye sight gets bad to wthe point he can't fly. He should be a controlero

They need to see a hundred planes at once and keep them away from eachother in air. There are no blind ATCs.
