For that first ship, the area you referred to as the engines was actually the boiler room/multiple boiler rooms. The area that you were not sure about was the engine room. Some sort of reciprocating engine I think but don't quote me!

The ss triattic was sank during world war 1 by a u-boat who thought it was a warship. It was torpedoed and sank in only 5 minutes.s It was sank so fast, no lifeboats could be launched. sadly, no one survived

Near the coast of Derp City Port, a ship run by antimatter was struck by a torpedo. As soon as the torpedo touched the ship, it exploded in a giant hyper nova and destroyed the 5 other ships and the shooter. Apparently, they thought the Carrugarian ship was a warship and shot it. It was considered the 2nd worst disaster of Derp City history. Also, what you thought was an avengers reference is actually you and DOB with a portal.

3:14 It ripped at the tail because it's the strongest part of the plane. The that one spot is connected with a weaker part. The black box is located in the tail. It is like that so the black box would survive an impact from any angle.
