Mike, fascia boards will indeed dress up the front. Think about the need for any soffit boards. Unless you close them up they may become nest sites for birds, wasps & other pests. The project is lookin' good, my man!
Of course if he encloses the soffits front and back, and doesn't enclose the whole ceiling, they'll have nice nesting boxes that are accessible from inside.
Mike, watch Hunter's face when you were talking about what Hunter might order. It's priceless! He had the look of "Boy am I going to throw you a curveball today!". Hunter, I'm so happy that Burger King is still allowing you to get takeout!
Mike , Melissa..... can you let your viewers know rhythm subscribing is FREE...... a lot of elderly viewers think that you have to pay when they here the word Subscribe. Thx
Howdy Morgans, Mike and Melissa enjoy the banter between the two of you. Correct answer Mike she did a great job nailing the fascia boards especially since she is becoming expert with the nail gun and you have to sleep sometime....wouldn't want to see a video on Melissa's channel with Mike nailed to the headboard through his PJ sleeves.... Have A Good Night's Sleep Mike! ;~)
Last day of Quarantine. Thanks for being part of the day. Tomorrow I hop in the car from storage and go to our six acres and play with my tractor and chainsaw. Have a Day.
Hey TWEET !!...What's up with the jalapeno poppers? It takes a REAL Man to even eat.... one! Looks like your having fun spending time with your Dad on a Saturday drive!
Hello, from Las vegas Nevada, what happens in las vegas stays in las vegas, I'm in las vegas in a quarantine, HUNTER IS MY BROTHER, FROM CHIHUAHUA MEXICO, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Thanks for answering the 2’ log cut-off before I could ask it. Hard to tell the log shape from watching. And you’re a good dad for taking a break for a BK run, probably helps a lot with Melissa’s sanity. And thanks for the continued building tutorial, really appreciate getting in your head to understand what is going on with your hands. 😁👍🏻 Hey Hunter! ✋🏻👴🏻
Just one quick question. Why do you take a picture of the menu every time you two go to Burger King? Does the menu change that often? Can't you just pull up the picture from last Saturday? Keep the videos coming!
The woodshed looks awesome. Keep up the good work. Hi Hunter. Mike, you must have drank plenty of coffee in the morning, you were moving really fast at the beginning of the video. Then it wore off and you started moving at normal speed. God bless and have a productive day.
Melissa said she dropped a whole tray of drinks when she was a waitress, today that is known as alcohol abuse, just saying. Does the 5 second rule apply to spilled drinks?
Mike, Dunno if you watch Stony Ridge Farm or not but they did an EXCELLENT video on weed killer recently. They compared Roundup (crap) with Green Gobbler high acidic vinegar and the Green Gobbler won HANDS DOWN. I think that would be an excellent product for you to use on your driveway(s). Note: I am NOT affiliated with Green Gobbler in any way. I will just be using it from now on for my OWN weed killing OPs from now on.
Well, I should explain, human beings take care of each other,,, People take care of themselves... All you need to know is which one you are... ; ) Right?
Big hello to the HUNTER MAN. Great seeing you hitting Burger King. I love that spicey food like you. You take care buddy and have patience with your folks. They are looking out for you. This virus will pass and everything will get back to normal.
Jalapeño poppers ! Is the world coming to an end? Are we expecting an earthquake? How does Hunter know it’s Saturday when you’re now home everyday? So many questions- so much pleasure watching Outdoors with the Morgan’s!
Hunter, those Jalopeno Poppers are awesome. Great choice. Liked your tee shirt on your mom's channel the other day. Two thumbs up for Diet Dr. Pepper. Enjoying the wood shed and sawmilling of your lumber. A she-shed maybe the next project. Nice to have good hand to assist.
Your intro music reminds me of another channel called 'Dixie Cryptids', hosted by a guy named Cameron, or Cam for short. He reads viewer stories about Bigfoot and UFO experiences. The theater of the mind is very powerful, and more believable than the fuzzy, shaky videos that claim to be the real deal. Watching your video's, I occasionally scan the woods for movement. Sure do enjoy your videos.
You can do raised beds...no problem! I built all of mine too, but screwing them together is better than nailing...4x8 ft. is my standard size, with 2x4 posts on each end for support, and across the middle to prevent bulging, 22" high, with 2x4 frames on top so you can sit on and/if mount winter covers. I grow all of my vegetables, lettuces and fruit like strawberries, blueberries in those bins. Been doing this for 20 years....so nice not having to bend over, and tellises to grow vining plants like beans and cukes. Try it, you'll love it.
Man, I love your saw and the woodshed your building. I would put a small rock apron all the way around it to keep grass and weeds from touching the siding. If I remember correctly, red oak is so porous if you were to cut a 3/4" X 3/4 piece of it 6" long, you could blow on the end grain and hear air passing through it, so it's good you are sealing and staining it, nice job Mike , Melissa, and family👍🙋♂️
Mike, you talked about putting soffet under your front overhang... I think you would be wise to leave it open, when you enclose it you make a place for Bees (Wasps & Yellow jackets) and Birds to make their nests.
Alright Hunter - change up again, Jalapeno Poppers. Keeping your dad on his toes! The shed is going to look just great. Keeping Melissa safe and from going off the tailgate - - - three thumbs up for that. Believe a lot of people would hurt ya besides Melissa if you started something new without finishing the shed. So, Have A Day!
Mike, lil' correction for ya, "purling" refers to a knitting stitch, I think the word you want is "purlin", roof board across rafters! lol Luv the vids! Stay healthy all!
I love your wood shed and I love that your wife helps you. You are truly blessed with your wonderful family. I'm 65 and not able to get out and do any more. I grew up with a forest as my playground. A hunter, camper and vacations with family was spent in the NC mountains, only a few times to beach, you can't beat camping in the mountains. Not able to do that anymore, you provide me with such wonderful videos outdoors that really make me feel good. Thanks so much for sharing Mike!
I really enjoyed this video and the funniest part was when Melissa threatened you with the nail gun LOL She wasn't going to put it down until you gave her a complement LOL Sounds like Lisa LOL We also love when you show the trips to Burger King and how Hunter picks out what he wants. Special times!
You sure do some good "tinkering" there Mike. Do you find it fairly easy to clean up the wood mill 'mess' from on the gravel using rake and blower?? Melissa, you look natural up on the ladder, maybe he can start on your pool next, right???
First , you can go out and get roofing metal? They won't lets use buy paint or flowers BUT we can get LOTTO. Second, It starts with planets and raised beds then it goes to pool house. Just saying.
Mike, maybe you've addressed this before but wondering what you had planned for the slabs? I always got a 1X4 from the outside rind board (boards that haven't been edged that still has bark on one or both sides) and had a thin slab. Those thick slabs would make some nice siding. Grandpa used to build hog pens/shelters out of slabs. Just figured you had something planned for making the slabs so thick.
Hello Morgan’s, I would also not put up soffit boards because I’ve just become Ness for all the animals, and on your roofing I would overhanging the roof 2 inches on the top 2 inches on the bottom and 1 inch on the Gables
Greetings from No Vt - Woodshed is lookin' good. Hunter was priceless in surprising you with the Spicy Poppers. The soffit boards will create a cavity for birds or squirrels to nest and make a mess. Even if you close off between the rafters over your carry beam it still is an inviting void for wasps, bees and other flying insects.
Hey Mike, We heard Melissa is getting practice with the nail gun and sawmill so she can build her own pool house! You know the Morgan women are pretty self sufficient. Shed is looking good!
Like the use of the Simpson tie-down's on the 4x4 posts to the main header. Don't forget the proper drip edge on the roof around all four sides (it's cheap), this will ensure a water-tight finish. Nice works kids.
Hay you folks are great nice to see some folks doin what's best. plainin on doin sumthin like this with my wife when the day comes. we have some property in the mountains of Mexico, ide like to show you if you want? just let me know, ill send you pictures. Love your life, cant wait to do it my self. Were like you-all between firewood and milling. our regards to you and the rest, looking forward to your reply. be good human beings, and keep pushin on...
Because you are basically working by yourself, try cutting a couple of scraps to the length you need between the perlins. Use as spacers as you work across and up. I will save time because you won't have to measure and reshift to get it right. Just a friendly suggestion !! LoL
Melissa won't kill you if what you start building before the woodshed is finished is her pool ;) Wow, Hunter really went off the normal path for lunch!
I've always tried to butt fascia and toenail it to the rafters too, but I recently saw a guy "The Crazy Framer" who just lets them run wild, and then uses a scrap piece behind the fascia to nail both ends to - then you only have a couple nails in each rafter, and only have to fuss with the ends. Anyways I thought it might be worth mentioning, even if it's too late for this project. If I'm not describing it well enough, it's clearly shown in this video at the 20:00 mark: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XFn3T85QQWQ.html
We ran a Peterson Sawmill for many years commercially. One suggestion is to build a wooden long basin mounted on skids to catch your sawdust. End of day just pick up the basin and dump the sawdust wherever you see fit. Saves time cleaning up and you get to use your tractor for the heavy lifting.
Mike, do you have any idea how dangerous it is to have a wife who is proficient with a nail gun ? Glad you have the "Hunt Guy" to keep y'all in line. Yeah, Hunter !!!
Hi Mike I just live down the road from the birth place of Wally and the wood chipper.Could you show us how you set the death measurement on the Wood Miser. Is there an auto setting Thanks
Ha! Hi! From joe & Judy Sandstone mn. Check your nailing pattern on your face if you don’t put at least 3 per joist your going to get movement on that green wood . On your stain you might want to check on drainage oil it really is pretty and golden and preserves the wood it really socks in and you will really have to speed it up or the boss is really going to be mad ha! See ya!
Hello from Quebec. I watch every single video you publish and really enjoy it all. Mike, the shed looks awesome. I know you are a detail-man and you mentioned that you are going to stain the wood. Aren't you concerned that it may increase work in the long term if it starts pealing and you have to redo in the future. I am getting ready lo install board and batten on a camp and after seeing pictures posted on the internet from people who have just let it age naturally, I find it to look just awesome.
This may have been asked but did you consider a larger beam to eliminate support posts in the middle and how wide would it have to be. Even considering steel I beam or would laminated with tin sandwiched in middle? Mike from South Dakota
If close in the front and rear facials under the bottom your just building critter nest, birds, rats, snakes, squirrels etc. Another great day with OUTDOORS WITH THE MORGANS.
That’s going to be a nice woodshed. Nice to be able to cut your own lumber. When we built our new house, I thinned out a bunch of 70’ tall pines and had a guy with a portable woodmiser cut them into lumber for me, and my father in law had an old corn crib I dried it in. Used it for my basement framing and trim. Also built a huge entertainment center with built in tv out of it.
Perhaps you should consider buying another step ladder and cutting a 12-foot walk board. Might be safer than a walking transition from the tailgate to the ladder. Great work on the shed so far. Looks sturdy as all get out.
I'm guessing if you get her a pool not only will you increase your property value but you won't have to sleep with one eye open. 😂 That is a 🐝utiful wood shed.
Malissa you nailed it. It’s looking good. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Get that roof on so the pool project can start. Stay safe be kind and have a day.
I don't think I would put soffit boards on the wood shed Mike unless you are going to put a ceiling inside. Otherwise you will get all kinds of critters up in the little rafter holes from the inside. Just a suggestion.
Quick question Mike. With you putting the fascia boards and the soffit, are you also going to put boards between the rafters above the top plate to stop the birds and critters from getting into the area and nesting? I ask because there won't be any doors and will leave the inside area open for them to get in those spots.
