Most VW stealership does not even know this engine exist. Let alone know how to service them. Thank you much for this informative video. Love my V10.

Great videos! I have my V10 engine removed also right now and its only because i found your video series on this topic. This really encouraged me to do it myself at home too. I took mine out for cracked exhaust manifolds and a split on the compensator (corrugated section of the manifold) and will be changing my camshafts aswell + a lot of other stuff.

Awesome I’m glad they helped. That’s the main reason I made this channel as coming from the 4 cyl. TDI’s there’s how-to’s on everything where’s as the v10 is fairly scarce. Hope everything goes well!

AUTOMATIC TRANS: Use VW ATF, Part No. G 055 025 A2 (1 liter container). Life-time filling, new fill quantity is for reference only. Only replace after repair (i.e. when removing oil pan). See Repair Manual VESIS for details. (Copy pasted from fluid capacity chart). For 09D Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission.

Good job getting the V10 back together - are you going to post a video of the re-assembly?

I had planned on doing a condensed video but had camera issues that day and had taken a day of specifically to reassemble it. Went together very well but getting it positioned took a few tries.

Does transmission oil not change its state as it ages to better facilitate an older higher mileage gearbox ? This is what a specialist told me. Either change the transmission fluid regularly or do not do it at all unless you encounter a serious problem and have no choice. Regular fluid changes are my choice, but this has not happened on the gearboxes of my two V10 Touareg.

You'll have people argue both sides of that, I only work on automotive as a hobby so im not the most educated when it comes to this. My theory is if old fluid is all thats keeping your trans functioning correctly then your on borrowed time to begin with. VW says they're sealed for life (which is usually 160k miles), i just read a comment a couple days ago that said aisin recommends every 50k miles. Needless to say im going to keep changing it in this trans just might skip the filter as its a fairly course mesh.

Hi! and good job! Q: Everyone in my area told me only to replace the oil with original VW branded one (4 times the price), what is your opinion on using other brands on a 250.000 km old gear box? Also, did had to take out my engine last year, went to a small shop near me, he never worked on a v10 before, started in december and finished in august, and did a bad job, I had to redo the front bumper with radiators again, everything was leaking.

Thanks, I’m sure there’s more knowledgeable people on this topic but the way I see it is if it meets VW’s spec and is a reputable brand of oil it should be just as good. I’m not sure if I had mentioned it in the video but I got this kit from idparts, the kit cost 160 usd with Fuchs oil, you can “upgrade” to VW oil for an extra 40. I don’t think that’s a whole lot more considering there’s 9L of oil but I figured I’ll use that money saved elsewhere. Mine has 167k km on it and I don’t imagine it’s been done before. And that sucks about the shop, I pulled mine in May and got it back together end of August. I was actually surprised at how easy it was to pull, I’d imagine I could have it out and back In in a weekend after doing this one.

Hello, very good video, I would like to know where to buy the syringe that you use to change the oil. Regards my friend

Hey, I’ve got a local automotive store called Canadian tire. I got this transfer pump from there, Motomaster fluid transfer pump. The transfer pump has the check valve in it so one hose fills the pump and one hose expels it, makes moving this quantity of fluid a lot quicker not having to fill and expel out the same hose. If you use a straight syringe it may take awhile unless you get a quite large one.
