I was out trying my new 7 PRC X-Bolt Max Long Range at 300 yards and shot a 3-shot group measuring 1 3/8". Not too bad. I also had quite a bit of mirage that day. H4831SC under 175 gr ELD-Xs did all-around good shooting on all my tests, but the velocities were a tad slow for the really long shots. My next powder will be N560.

Your videos are lining up perfectly for me. I should be getting my .284 win barrel from Jay soon and these are all the things I need to do and/or have been thinking about. Thanks for sharing your process.

That’s exactly how I find touch. Good to know I’m doing it correctly. Thanks for all the info.

So the header says powder test… Yet you didn’t do a powder test. This was just a video on how to find the Land’s or touch point.

I wonder how it is compared to the .284 win which is easy to tune and consistent. I've been very disappointed after choosing the 6.5CM instead a 6.5x47L for my last custom rifle, and a friend of mine too. The loads weren't consistent after testing different bullets, powders, seating depth, smal and large primers, brass etc., I gave up after 1000 rounds. Now I'm convinced that inherent accuracy isn't a myth, and that some cartridges are easier to tune than others (.222 rem, 6PPC, 6BR, 284 Win...). What do you think about it ?

When finding touch point… is there any benefit to making the bullet with sharpie to visually indicate a touch point? Thanks for the great videos.

Do you chase the lands?

Sorry...don't quite get it. I use Hornady oal to find lans. ... Not sure what the bolt click means... The bullet is catching on the labs, lede, rifling and making resistance that makes bolt click? Thanks

Hornady OAL tool works fine if used carefully. This is just another method. It's almost an arbitrary starting point since person to person everyone will have a different feel. Just gives you a number to work from. Yeah, the click is when the extraction of the case meets resistance as it's pulling the bullet out of the lands. Same thing can happen if the case isn't sized properly or the base of the case has grown too much.

Is this a 7 PRC or a 7/6.5 PRCW?

what ball park velocitys do you get with the 180 grains?
@longrange1114

I'm roughly where he is in the process and velocities for this cartridge (7-6.5 PRC-W) are 2850-2975 fps. My best accuracy looks to be around 2900-2920 so far. It will run up to 3000 fps and is accurate there but is hard on the brass.

@@longrange1114 Bruce, what's the life expectancy of your barrel at 2900-2920? Thanks
