A video to show the process to open a 7th Gen Kindle, replace the battery and re-assemble
Give new life to your old Kindle with a relatively easy process to change the battery. It's pretty cheap as well - as of June 2023 the replacement battery was £12.50 from ebay
You'll need a few tools - some sort of thin prising tool and a T5 Torx bit, but otherwise nothing else. Sometimes the replacement batteries come with these tools although they'll likely be of very poor quality
The Specific Kindle model was WP63GW and the battery part number was MC-265360-03 (3.6V 890mAh Li-ion)

I got it from EBay - part number was Listed as as "High Quality Battery for Amazon WP63GW 58-000083 MC-265360-03". I think you need all of this as I originally just typed MC-265360 and it was the wrong one. I don't think its quite as good as the original in that periods between charging are slightly less than the original (but not a lot - a few days), but it's massively better than the old original battery was as it was down to needing a charge at least once per week. This is after about 6 months of use. I think typically I need to recharge once a month with this replacement which is about the same as before My Kindle must be 10 years old so £15 for a battery is good value. I'd not realised new ones are so expensive now

Hi. I just got a used kindle (same like yours) and was wondering how long does the battery supposed to last? I’m thinking of changing the battery because I find myself charging it at least once a week.

The original battery lasted about a month of daily use, sometimes a little more. I think that the decision to replace was made when I was needing to charge it weekly. The replacement battery I used in this video does last almost as long between charges so I am pretty pleased with it. Whether it lasts the 6-7 years that the original lasted before it wore out remains to be seen of course. But I was happy that by spending about £12 for a battery I saved the need to spend over a £100 for a new Kindle

Be careful when separating the bezel. It is glued. Make sure that you separate it gently from the body but also from the screen.. Bear in mind that if you do it too quickly, it can tear off the edges of the thin layer that covers the entire screen. Lessons learned, unfortunately.

Yes agreed. It took a while to work the pry tool underneath and all around progressively. But it came off eventually. - as you say - slow but sure. Thanks
