Hi, Tessie, isn’t it a miracle how we find fitting books and items, as if they were waiting for us… I use the internet for recipes, too, but I’ve my cooking books and like to read in them like others are reading crime stories. They’re giving me a lot of ideas and advice. I even have an old recipe from my grandmother: you had to stir the dough ONE HOUR 🥮! Enjoy your projects and the prepared garden food in your pantry. Love, Monika❣

Such an excellent, informative video, Tessie! You're so right about the hard copies of books; I've gotten away from digital copies for things like cookbooks or informational texts and have been purchasing them in print when I can. These were all great ideas, and it was a good reminder to be on the lookout for these preparedness items.

Tessie, the fact that your wonderful thrift store is connected with the Mennonite tradition is one of the things that makes it so perfect for the items you treasure (as do a lot of us!) It's so close to so many areas of PA that go waaay back to times when almost *every* able bodied woman canned, preserved and read *real* books! And a lot of them still do! So I'm not surprised that you found so many things that would be invaluable should the grid go down. What you said about the printed word is so true. It will be needed! It's funny... my son's job compels him to work with software almost all the time (he supervises 41 junior engineers at a mega-company), and yet -- guess what he wanted when there was talk about a division of property "down the road" in our family? (We're kind of frank about these things, I guess 🙂) The one thing he really wanted was the big set of Britannica Encyclopedia books! They were bought when we were home schooling years ago. And I have to admit, they cover *everything* ! He said that if the grid fails, he'll be in good shape. With a Bible and those books, I think he'll do well! Blessings to you and Kenny, dear Sister!

Hi Kes, What An Amazing Life You Have Lead!! Not Only Are You A RN, A Wonderful Calling In And Of Itself, But You Have Also Managed To Home School Your Children. I Noticed Your Son Has Inherited Your Dry Sense Of Humour (as with buzzy Lip😅) Along With Your Love Of Books And Learning. You Must Be Very Proud Of Your Children Kes, And They Of You! Yes, You Are Frank About Subjects That Are Not Always The Easiest To Talk About, But That's A Good Thing Isn't It. Unfortunately, When My Late Father Had The Same Conversation With My Brother And Myself I Had To Leave The House! I'm Not Pragmatic I'm Afraid, I Am Too Emotional-- I Wish I Wasn't 😊 Anyway, It Was Really Lovely To See You Again My Dear Sister In Jesus I'm Praying That You Have A Relaxing And Blessed Day, Much Love Andrea
@kesmarn
@kesmarn Год назад
@@pr9764 Bless you once again, Andrea! Yes, there was definitely some schedule juggling in those home schooling days. I was working part time in nursing when we decided to home school. My daughter was in the 5th grade and my son in 2nd. Then I was able to go to a schedule of working just weekends at the hospital (not too difficult when everyone else wants weekends off!). When my son turned 13, he wanted to study Japanese. Well, that was definitely beyond my pay grade! So I called the local community college and signed him up there for Japanese 101. I'll always be grateful to them for letting him into the class at that age! My daughter decided to try the local Christian high school then, which was okay with me! And my son added math and other classes to the Japanese one in following semesters. The next thing we knew, he had enough credits to transfer to a 4 year school. And so ended our home schooling adventure. No regrets, though! So good to see you again as well! Sidenote: I think there's nothing at all wrong with being emotional. I think God gave us those emotions for a reason!

Hey sis, have you thought about fermented food? We’re doing tomatoes. We put jalapeños in sometimes. I saw a video about fermenting salsa! Which is good for us because tomatoes and peppers is just about all that survived our hot weather here in Missouri! The channel is Off grid with Doug and Stacy. She has a book on it too. Very interesting! The tomatoes are delish too!

An awesome video as always! I started doing what you did in this video a few months back. Just looking for practical/prepping/food storage &saving items. I've set $20 aside in an envelope I keep in my wallet just in case I come across an item. I use a gallon jar w lid to keep matches in so rodents cannot get to them. As a subscriber commented, I, too, have begun a notebook of recipes. I once collected cookbooks but after moving into a small house, I had to down size. I went through ea cookbook and wrote down any recipe I'd actually use then passed the cookbooks on to friends. Awesome finds! From Cheryl in north Mississippi-take care, stay safe, love y'all, God bless
