What I hated was the fact there was a rumor that if you caught all the damn jellyfish the Bounty Hunter girl would join you and even when you resolve her plot story she never did join you in any type of combat which sucks
@@IaconDawnshire I agree with that as well. It was just that the dev team thought about wanting to make a sequel to SoA, but due to the poor sales of the game, on two consoles, pretty much killed it. It always made me curious about how they would do the sequel.
Terranigma is an all time favorite. I love the gameplay and it has some of the saddest moments in gaming(poor mountain goats..). Wild Arms is special for the unique atmosphere that no RPG has had for me like it. The story has some exceptionally dark and chilling moments aswell
The end of terranigma 😭 when you see ark flying... It's a game that can't leave you different. when you meet ****** again in ********** but you're absorbed in the audio you're hearing on the broadcaster and it doesn't even occur to you that it could be that
The Perspective of God’s People For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness. They seem to live such painless lives. (Psalm 73:3-4) The psalmist Asaph struggled with the age-old question of why the wicked prosper. In Psalm 73 he wrote, “But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone. For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness” (verses 2-3) We live in a time when people celebrate and flaunt ungodly lifestyles. And like Asaph, we wonder how long they’re going to get away with it. As followers of Christ, we try to live by God’s Word, and people mock us for it. So, we say, “This just isn’t fair. That’s a horrible thing they’re doing. They shouldn’t be able to get away with that.” David, too, reflected on the life of the godly and the ungodly and contrasted them. He looked at the priorities they have. And in Psalm 5 he wrote, “You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers. Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe” (verses 6-7) David was saying, “Nonbelievers can do what they want to do and live the way they want to live. But I’m going to go to the house of the Lord.” Asaph arrived at a similar conclusion. He wrote, “Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction” (Psalm 73:17-18) When we gather with God’s people and study God’s Word together, we will see the big picture. We will realize that sin eventually catches up with everyone. And as followers of Jesus Christ, we will know that we’ve made the right choice.
Dude, that intro? Goosebumps. It has everything we love from the late 80s and 90s of Japanese culture. Happy to see the videos getting better and better.
Really glad to hear the intro is being received so well! We were hesitant on implementing one at first as I know sometimes they can be a little annoying to some people so the goal was to make it as cool as possible so that people actually wanna watch it. Thanks dude!

I wouldn't put Wild Arms in a list of games that aged well because of the battles, some of the worst early 3d graphics. Pure 2D game would've been awesome.
I loved all of them besides one. It has been awhile. Though the one that was action based where you need to hit a training dummy 255 times to get some dumb weapon..
And to think the only reason I originally got Wild Arms 1 was because the pawn shop had sold the copy of Chrono Cross to my mom the day before and I had to choose if I wanted the first or second Wild Arms game. I got chrono cross for Christmas that year :) and the next summer got the second wild arms game.
It's still got one of the greatest soundtracks in the history of gaming - right up there with Chrono Trigger, Xenogears and the first Valkyria Chronicles.
One of the great things about Terranigma, or RPGs of that era were the manuals. The anime-like pictures in the manuals made you excited to reach those points in the game, and gave the games just so much world setting and lore.
I found your channel about a month ago and I've pretty much watched every video...such a great channel you can tell alot of love and passion go's into your content...just fantastic !!!
Love to hear that. Really appreciate the kind words! Thank you. I’ve been really passionate about the genre for most of my life so always trying to make sure that it’s reflected in the content 💯

I only saw the Terranigma Artwork in the Thumbnail. It is my favourite Game of all time. The Soundtrack is so fucking good, it's so intense and different from track to track i really had the feeling it brought the soundchip to it's limit. Talking bout limits, the Graphics are so pretty and i really felt the devs gave everything they had to make it the best it could be and found smart ways to work around the limitations. It just is something really special every RPG fan should expirience
Phantasy Star IV and Ys: The Oath in Felghana are both among my absolute favorite games of all time and all of these are truly excellent games. I make time to play through Phantasy Star IV every year and the experience is always as great as I remember it being.
Another solid video, boys! Im making my way through DQVIII right now and it’s such a relaxing way to end a long day. would love to see a Part 3 video too!
Soul blazer blew me away back then. When the goat that you gave food too started walking by himself to the house you got the food from demanding more food I already knew the game was going to be special
Thank you. Atmosphere has always been a really important aspect in video games to me so have kinda taken that thought process here trying to set specific vibes with our videos
Just played Paper Mario 1 for the first time last month, so I definitely agree there! It felt as fresh as if it just came out. That Nintendo polish ages REALLY well.
Glad you enjoyed it! Like the above comment said give Thousand Year Door a try next. I’m in the minority that prefers the original over it but it’s still an amazing game and I see why a lot of people prefer it over the first one
@@GamingBroductions I actually modded my Wii U last weekend to be able to play Gamecube ISOs. I had TTYD as a kid and it was tragically stolen along with my gamecube, Tales of Symphonia.. Lots of good games really. Excited to finally get to play it to the finish.

This was a great list! Phantasy star 4 just made me smile to see on here! Just wanted to add, I love these vids, I'd love to see more! Keep up the great work!
Remember, in addition to Phantasy Star 4 coming with a manual that explained what all the spells and skills did, it was the 4th game in a series that used that naming convention. Not to mention that Final Fantasy's "Blizzaga" would probably be as nonintuitive to the original Japanese audiences as Persona's "Bufudyne" or Phantasy Star's NaWat."
I think it’s wild that we’re at a point where baten kaitos and record or agerest war are getting rereleased and yet, radio silence on skies of Arcadia and wild arms. Really love your videos
Phantasy Star 4 needs a new translation in my opinion, especially because of the letter limitations that old games had. Maybe it could get a Sega Ages treatment with quality of life changes. That would be worth it.
This list is full of great games. Phantasy Star 4 is my favorite game ever. Like a lot of 16-bit and older RPGs the manual was actually pretty useful bordering on necessary, giving explanations of the basic spells and what have you.
What do you think of Phantasy Star 1-3? I want to get into this series, I tried PS1 with the Sega Ages remaster, and I got lost. I haven't been lost in a JRPG in ages, so I put it down.
@@michaelp4122 I have never finished 1, although I am trying to work my way through the Sega Ages release myself. That said, PS1 has a design philosophy that's really different from a lot of other 8 bit RPGs; it reminds me more of something like Ultima or the Saga games than other early JRPGs. All of which is to say, I also find the first game a bit obtuse, although I think it is worth playing. Like I said before these early RPGs tended to have a lot of info in the game manual, either with hints, partial walkthroughs, or both, so you might look into finding a scan of the manual if you want the best experience. PS2 has some of the most interesting themes and overall plot of the series, but it is HARD and the dungeons lean towards the hair-pulling level of mazey-ness. The characters I think were better in PS1. I personally wouldn't start with PS2, although plenty of people have. I just do not think the core systems have aged very gracefully, despite how interesting it must have been playing it when it was brand new. Phantasy Star 3 was my first game in the series, and although I know now that it is considered the black sheep of the first four games I really liked most of it. The combat system is surprisingly fast and flexible once you wrap your head around its peculiarities, and the generation mechanic was something I had never seen before (more common now, but most prevalent in Visual Novels rather than full on RPGs). Honestly, if you want to check out the series, I would suggest trying 4 first unless you already have at least some tolerance for old-school jank. The characters and storytelling of the game are peak 16-bit, rivaling games like FF6 in quality (mechanically, FF6 or even 5 have more depth, but PS4 is incredibly new player friendly in my experience, and the presentation is phenomenal).
@@RwnEsper I'll try PS4 first then, I can play it on the switch online with rewind (which is cheap, but....I like it). Playing Shining Force 2 now on switch. 8/16 bit JRPGs are a lot more tolerable when played on a system with a home/sleep button. Not going to lie, it probably won't be until 2024 before I try this, but you're not the first to tell me that PS4 is on the same level as FFVI, Chrono Trigger, or Terranigma. Thanks for the info for all 4 games, one day, I'll get to them all.
@@all-fiction3305 im tryin to take that as a sign that maybe more niche JRPGs can start poppin up again. First it was Square's livealive and now its namco's baten kaitos. Please sega for the love of god...
So many of these older jrpgs would do well with a remastered port. Personally, Phantasy Star IV would probably make an excellent candidate for a full conversion to 3d with voice acting, though they should have an option to retain the comic panels or have cut scenes. Also, the spells definitely need a naming update... my first time playing was a bit annoying figuring out what spells did what lol

@@GamingBroductions no thank you intro really brought me back to my highschool days and was what I really needed to make it through the day. I'm gonna share this video on Facebook if that's ok
The JRPG that aged well to me is *Front Mission 3* for PS1. Why so? To this day I still haven't finished the game because most of the time I spend, like 80%, are mostly on its fictional internet browser LOL 😂😂😂. Very little I spend on grinding for characters. Seriously, I just browse sites, reading some fictional articles about military vehicles, vote for my sister in college beauty contest. I just can't stand it when there's encrypted website, I NEED TO KNOW THE PASSWORD.
I'm so glad I got into Emulation in the 2nd grade (1996) because I could play games that I would never be able to get like Terranigma. That game is definitely legendary.
Got to say, I was overjoyed to see you cover not just Skies of Arcadia but also Terranigma. Terranigma in particular is special to me because it's probably my most favourite game from my early childhood along with it's predecessor Illusion of Time. In fact I still haven't really met anyone online who had the game growing up besides me.
Speaking of old RPGs I would love to see a video covering the Famicom JRPGs because those are so underrepresented, and at the time they were so big in Japan. People talk about Super Famicom RPGs but not on the original 8 bit console. All people mention is Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy when there’s stuff like Sweet Home, Glory of Heracles II, and Lagrange Point.
Whoa! Cool intro. Is this the first video with the new introduction? The music sounds like a 1990s hip hop beat complete with instrumental samples laid over a drum break. The clips of JRPG cutscenes, and real life Japan played along with the music is dope.
Yep first video featuring the intro. Thank you, glad you like it! Definitely was going for old school Toonami vibes, I’ve always really loved the combination of retro anime and hip hop beats and think they go really well together
Fellas, this may be your magnum opus (so far!). What a banger of a video. Love the editing direction you're taking. I've actually only played a couple of games on here. FFT is one of my favorites of all time. Same with PSIV. And MEIS TRIUMPH NEEDS TO BE SPOKEN ABOUT MORE!!!!!
Great video! Dq 8 is so good. Always loved terranigma too. No one knew about it except for me growing up because I was the only one of my friends who knew about emulation and we didn’t get an official release here. That GameCube one looks amazing !! And wild arms is one I’ve always wanted to play too. I’ve also always wanted to try the breath of fire games for PlayStation. I only played them on snes. I’m off to check part one now! Thanks for sharing
Suikoden and Wild Arms are the games that made me a gamer. I'd played before but never got really into it, until my brother introduced me to Suikoden and Wild arms
Phantasy Star 2 and 4 are two of my favorite JRPGs, so Skies of Arcadia is one of my most anticipated games as I make my way through the Dreamcast library. Earlier this year I played through Phantasy Star 1 for the first time, and I was surprised how well that one had aged, only becoming stereotypically cryptic near the end. Rieko Kodama was a driving force in some incredible games, she was taken far too soon.
Skies of Arcadia I played on Dreamcast first and didn't even care about the encounter rate because it's that good. I mean it was made by the people who made the Phantasy Star and Panzer Dragoon series. So anything less than really good is impossible.
Wow, this channel has grown like whut! Great picks for parts 1 and 2 both. My personal picks off the top of my head (not necessarily "favorites" but I think they have aged well): -Kartia: The Word of Fate (PS1) -SaGa Frontier (PS1) -Arc the Lad III (PS1 version) -Jade Empire (Xbox) -Shadow Hearts Covenant (PS2) -Star Ocean: The Second Story (PS1) -Valkyrie Profile (PS1) Damn, PS1-heavy... ;-)
i LOVED Terranigma as a kid. Our neighbor had it and it was just such a great game. And those old great games - perfect to play on handhelds nowadays :)
I'm a subjective peon here but, Tactics Ogre > FFT. I understand and appreciate how the latter makes the list tho and as a fan I'm glad you shout it out during the fft portion. I'm just fascinated that ogre is the unofficial beta of FFT working on the SNES. And although it has its obvious limitations on the snes, it's just such a jam packed game, and some limitations like how few magic/items units could have always helped me just balance the whole party better. sorry tactics ogre is just a chefs kiss of a game imo
I always see PSIV on top jrpgs and I always thought it was just because of its' story and character development but when I saw the MACRO, the comic themed animation during cutscenes and variations to overworld travel are all groundbreaking and innovative during its' time.
Yep you nailed it, those are really what makes the game so great and memorable I feel. Story wise it’s actually nothing too special and I would say is noticeably weaker than games like CT/FF6, but the characters themselves and everything else about the game is spectacular
The themesong during the anime intro from Wild ARMs was the first MP3 I ever downloaded. I honestly liked it as much as I liked Final Fantasy 7 at the time. I still play Wild ARMs every so often. The battle graphics have definitely aged a little better than WA2, but... yeah. I agree with you on those. The sprites are superb, though! I loved Ys 3 on the SNES. Hard as hell, yes. "Not very good?" I disagree. That soundtrack, though... WOW. Oath in Felghana did a very good job of updating it, but not all the tracks hit the same for me. That's only personal opinion, though. 10/10 video for the cat.
Phantasy Star IV is my all-time favorite RPG! I never found its spells that hard to figure out, aside from one or two buffs that I never used anyway. If you think about it, a lot of them have recognizable naming conventions (RES - restore, FOI - fire/oil, WAT - water, etc).
Wild arms series and tales series are the most hidden jrpg that is so well Made, kids these days never Will knew about that kind of games, man i hope the wild arms series wont died but fate talk else ...
