Watching this a psych grad hurts. The amount of time, money, and dedication to achieve anything sizable is absurd in that field. Not to mention, we currently embolden and coddle folks with mental illness rather than help them out of it. Wish I would’ve seen this while in undergrad. Thanks for the video.

@@hamnasohail811what do you mean by worth it? Yes, there is job offerings, but mainly the job pay is somewhat bad. Graphic design is a trade job, you just need to be technical enough to land a job, the same thing with what i wanna do, software engineering, but i’m debating whether having the benefits of the degree title is worth it. what do u think?

I graduated from Bronx Community College on June 2nd with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration - Computer Programming Option, holding a 3.087 GPA. I have two choices from my major to go towards for my Bachelor's, business or computer. I'm going towards computer because it has higher salaries and an S tier major that will be really amazing for the future for me. I will start my first semester in Lehman College this month in August 25th for my Bachelor's Degree. My official major for my Bachelor's Degree : Computer Science ( Bachelor of Science ).

In short? No. Computer science is going to go one of two ways. It's either going to become split and specialized like biology(separate degrees in things like data management, networking, and software development), or it's going to be like math. A useless degree on its own, but pairs very well with anything else. Everyone is learning how to program now cause computers are so important to every profession, and CS degrees are just too general. I graduated in 2020 and I could already feel it. I didn't know a single thing about the tools companies are asking for to be a software dev(React, Angular, Jira, ect). Thank hell for the extra class I took in SQL or I would have been screwed. Doesn't help that computer science is going the way of law degrees. It's becoming oversaturated and the job market can't grow forever. It's already staggering(hence all the recent layoffs). I don't know exactly what the program will look like in 10 years, but I can promise you it's not going to be the same as it is now.

As for someone who is close to completing their BS in Computer Science, my advice is to start with math. You will have to look at different programs and see what you like but math is the foundation of computer science and I think Stats as well. Discrete Math is very important for Computer Science. At the school where I go Math only goes to Calculus 1 for a cs degree, but I'm minoring in math and that goes up to calculus 3. I wanted to double major in math and cs but the way my credits worked out and also cost ..Ill end up getting a BS in Computer Science, BA in Psychology and a minor in math. I know a BA in Psych..what does that have to do with CS? ...I get that a lot. I took advice from some guy off the internet saying that a minor in psy with a major in CS will help get into AI. I later noticed that with how my credits transfered (graduated in 2021 with a AS in CS at a different school) I could take 3 more classes and get a BA in psych instead of the psych minor. For some reason at my school the psychology and cs cross over more than math and cs.

Do NOT just do CS. Pair it with something or choose statistics. You'll end up doing the same job and have an easier time getting in. Trust me, it's hard as hell to get into software. Take the high road and go into analytics, data management, or stats.

@@minadawood1425 I’m in a cs program with a swe concentration. I’ve been talking to a lot of people about AI. I think it’s trendy rn and people are overreacting. I don’t think swes will go anywhere but I do think their roles will change. My masters program will be in software and machine intelligence. Don’t skip your Artificial Intelligence elective. U need to understand coding to understand AI. I wouldn’t worry too much about layoffs. Your not safe at any job in any field really. And many of those people found jobs soon after. Big tech companies hired too many people due to so many people being at home during Covid; it wasn’t that their skills were no longer needed in the industry.

I agree with you on Computer Science. I am finishing up my BS in Computer Science and work full time as a software developer. I love the subject of computer science but I've noticed myself starting to burnout from staring at different screens all day and night. I have learned to schedule some time for doing something physical to have that balance because if I don't I start getting anxious or depressed.

Hey Steven, I'm a first year uni cs student in the uk and I've been getting scared recently about my future. I wasn't rly sure what subject to study in uni and i chose cs cause everyone said it'd be easy to get a job and make loads of money and i always enjoyed working with computers so i went ahead with it but now the more i look at stuff on the internet the more i see people saying it isnt easy at all and even after a degree you need internships and experience to even get a job let alone a high paying one. and now with the recent layoffs and ai getting smarter and smarter im concerned if I've made the right decision or not. it'd be rly helpful to hear what you think about this and any advice would be appreciated

@@dabonit5507 As someone who has also finished a BS in Computer Science from Columbia, I can in fact confirm that you should indeed continue with Computer Science. It is a very stressful and maybe hard degree, but it is worth it because the rewards are very good. Also remember that you can always switch major if the burn out gets too much, but I highly recommend you stick with CS.

It is true, but it wouldn't hurt to minor or double major in something related to what your like to do. But yes, since physics involves lots of applied math and practical thinking, it is common for physics majors to land jobs in finance and tech. I'm not really sure about the engineering part though, since engineering is more than just physics and typically has a lot of prerequisites.
