Dice really went all out on their BF2. Shame they dropped support for it when there was so much more they could add, especially when it comes to weapons and heroes.
Right?? In one of the interviews one of hte developers commented on how they were experimenting with "Dual" lightsaber heroes. We almost had Ahsoka and Ventress damnit!!
EA their parent company made them work on Battlefield 2042 so it wasn’t up to them however if it was we would probably get x5 if not x10 the amount of content
Thing is, it kinda makes sense canonically. The Jedi were almost entirely wiped out so all their knowledge on duelling would disappear, the only people left to train Luke were Kenobi, who was old and didn't have much time, and Yoda, also old and very small. By the time Luke would come across proper duelling techniques, he'd already be too proficient to change all that much. Him just swinging his saber makes perfect sense.
@@1812WarHawk yodas is "to hit the targe, jump I must" Mauls is basically his own thing since he was trained by sidious but he doesn't have a lightsaber and even if he did he'd only have either 1 or 2 not a double blade obviously As for grievous idk why they made him only swing his sabers horizontally especially when most of his attacks seen in either the shows or movies are primarily vertical
@@JamesMaund538 I'm talking about ingame I'm not blind I know palps has 2 lightsabers he shit all over savage and maul then wiped out almost the entire jedi council with 1
Ok I originally thought “that’s so cool” but as soon as I saw the anakin and dooku one, idk but I’m a little skeptical that some of if not most of these “lore parallels” might just be the devs reusing animations and base animations for each character
It's because there's certain forms of lightsaber combat just like with real-world fighting styles. So two people using the same form are going to swing their sabers in roughly the same way.
@@ClonedGamer001 think you missed the point of my comment, your explanation still falls under “lore parallels” as I mentioned earlier, lightsaber stances and forms are apart of lore that I was pointing out that they could have put off the potential workload for themselves by reusing base animation foundations, idk if I know what that is but it’s basically two different aniamtikns that look visually similar but different, but that’s because it only varies 2/4 to 3/4 of the way in the animation cycle, meaning less work is needed to be done and mocap and manual animation tweaking is far easier
@@BiggieJ4224 That's actually not how animation works. It's actually harder to blend an existing animation into a new one than it is to create a totally new one. With some of them like Anakin/Vader they just totally reused the animations, but for the ones where the swing pattern is vaguely similar but not exactly the same, they at most would have the same "skeleton" of animation (the super rigid A-to-B movement before any sort of realistic momentum or weight is added), but that's it.
@@ClonedGamer001 hmm, my knowledge is flawed no excuses there, guess my skepticism is an innate instinct, great talking with you man thanks for the insight
@@ClonedGamer001 that’s definitely not true. I would buy that explanation for something like facial animations but applying the same animations to characters using the same skeletal frame is a shortcut, not a hindrance
@@SolanaTan-diaz4828 thats exactly the reason, you’ll notice Vader can’t angle his arms above/over his shoulders but Anakin can, if Anakin hit his potential and got more experienced he would of broke Star Wars from being way to OP
But they didn’t reuse animations. The animations mirror each other, but they are different from each other. This took careful planning and a lot of work. Not just a copy/paste job. At least for the Anakin/Vader/Obi-Wan parallels. Dooku might have been a copy/paste.
Technically Leia trained Rey for about a year After The Last Jedi, but that's something we never see other than the little training course Rey Runs in TROS.
@@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm yeah and Yoda struggled with rocks in attack of the clones. Rey didn’t show any strain at all, and she was still a newbie. Even Anakin, the literal chosen one, had his limitations and needed his entire adolescents to train his abilities to their peak potential. And he STILL didn’t reach that potential. Rey was just better at literally everything with next to no training. Made no sense whatsoever
@@skrublordnord69 I thought that the insinuation was that having thousands more force users in the galaxy, amongst other factors, was rendering Clone Wars-era Jedi much weaker than they should have been. And that Rey's powers are just how strong Jedi are _supposed_ to be.
Play it on PC with the mods. The mod community is doing what EA should be doing by adding in much more content to the game like more characters, skins, maps, etc. There are also dedicated servers that allow people to play fair without any hackers.
This is only a "theory" because we don't have any hard evidence or testimony from the animators, just the circumstantial evidence of being able to very clearly see that this is exactly what they did. Probably because EA was screaming at them to rush the game out the door so they could get their Greed Kindling.
not a theory according to what I know yes lets look back at what happened the way Vader and Anakin swing their light saber and how their ability is totally comprehended and same as they look Vader swing is somewhat like had a prosthetic cybernetic limb which is hard for Vader/Anakin to move even he couldn't swing his lightsaber back in his days and not agile because the weight that Vader had his armor is due to the high pressure intense heat he was on System of Mustafar and he did use his Force to be agile and maneuver well in the battlefield unlike that Pre Anakin could do that and also remember Form 5 Ataru the style I see is Form 5 anakin use Form 6 while Obi Wanis form 3
03:46 fun fact: The imperial shadow trooper appeared in The Force Unleashed game released in september of 2008, and before that in the Lego set 7667 'Imperial Dropship' earlier that same year.
My tid bit in BF2 is that the Raider ship HQ used by Inferno Squadron gets its design and origin from a table top game called X-Wing Miniature Game. It was designed by Lucasfilm for FFG to use in their game to have something that could go toe to toe with a CR-90. Dice saw it and loved enough to make it the main HQ of Inferno Squadron, making it officially canon
This actually reminded me of the fight between dooku vs anikan and obi-wann, i believe in one of the animated clone wars episodes. But while dooku was fighting them he was forcing anikan to be on defense majority of the fight while forcing obi-wann to be on offense, the complete opposite of their styles. We already knew dooku was a master in combat but that scene just demonstrated exactly why he was such a powerful sith
"Luke trained Rey" No, he gave her two lessons on why she shouldn't be a Jedi (even though he promised three lessons), she swung the lightsaber around by herself, and then he kicked her off the island.
I can never unsee that a DC-15 uses an upside down E-11 😅 Also, the scope issue can be explained away by saying that it is actually a camera optic. So the optic is actually linked to a camera rather than it being a telescope. I'm blanking on real life examples of this, but this is similar to the Magnum from Halo and the weapons of Mass Effect prior the third entry. Staggering when you consider most of these Star Wars weapons were designed in the 70's. Either this technology existed to a limited degree, or this is one big happy accident.
I noticed the lightsaber swing animations right away and made the connection of master to padawan instantly. Also father to son similarities in the moves
If you say so. If you're gonna carry two pistols, I say you should carry two pistols that do the job differently. Glock for squishies, Eagle for people who armour up.
The arc troopers are wearing the prototype phase 2 clone armour, which still has the comms fin on the top. At one point they were field testing it before it was finalized and went to the rest of the clone army
Not all gun sights need a lense on both ends. Early collimator sights (actually used on SW blaster props) worked on the "occluded eye" principle. As long as you keep both eyes open while aiming, it works fine.
With how we came to know that Vader's suit is painful to wear and restrict's Vader of his movements He was really still trying to pull off his original moves as Anakin, it's just more harder with the suit on.
I'm not even a part of the Battlefront community but your videos are great dude. Ever considered making content on other Star Wars games, or just other games in general? I know there's a few Star Wars games that are very "Battlefront-ish", could be cool to see how they compare and how things differ from the more popular Battlefront brand/games.
Ah back in the days when dice was actually good with little details. Now they just make call of duty clones. Hopefully Embark Studios is able to keep afloat on their first few projects.
I think it would be awesome if they ever went back to add new content to EA BF2 if they changed some Hero ships to have customizations, at the very least change Yoda's Jedi Starfighter to just by default be "Jedi Starfighter" and allow you to change skins based on your favorite Jedi's fighter, even let you change the dialogue of who's talking when you fly it and make it available to have at least a couple people use it.
Id imagine the reason the resistance uses blue for their blaster bolts is because first order storm trooper armor is likely tuffer to get through so they need the extra power blue bolts provide.
In bf2015 you’d ads in first person down the length of the gun in a (point shooting stance for pistols) if the weapon didn’t have an optic. Wish they’d brought it back in bf2
Great video as always. Not gonna lie, I love Dennis - we owe so much to him for how amazing BF2015 and BF2017 are - but his comments on the Shadow Trooper being too similar to/redundant with the Death Trooper are so uncharacteristically wrong for him, and really couldn't be further from the truth. Their only similarity is that they both wear black armor. Other than that, everything about the two trooper types is completely different. Shadow Troopers are stealthy reconnaissance and infiltration units, while the Death Trooper is a bodyguard and enforcer unit. On top of that, the Shadow Trooper is basically a black Stormtrooper, with no additional gear, while the Death Troopers commonly have additional ammo pouches, grenade bandoliers, pauldrons, etc. On top of all this, the two units literally coexist perfectly in Battlefront 2015, and no one has ever complained about it. I have to think that he had to think of something to say to explain their absence from BF2, probably because the team just didn't have time to add them.
i'm not sure how much i believe them drawing parallels in the animations vs them just reusing animations. it's not bad if that's the case, just makes more sense to me.
the reason most the lights saber animations were similar might be because of time and effort reason as making completely unique animations for each character would take long
@@exfedityi am an animator. they dont look reused, they are most certainly handcrafted bcause they use clearly distinct poses and they also switch hands in some cases so... yeah, they are not reused animations.
Im such a nerd i noticed basically all of this invested 2k hours into that game. So fucking sad they never continued it. Hope we get the same team to make bf3
The shadow trooper not being included for being too similar to death troopers, I wonder if the devs ever considered making the shadow into a Death trooper skin
@@Not_Alan_Wake deathtroopers were added in the Rogue One update and not as their own unit. Only as bodyguard if someone was playing as Krennic. And the reason why Shadow weren’t in 2 because the devs thought they were too similar to DTs
It's amazing how much attention to Star Wars detail they put into this, replicating the Star Wars universe so well! If only they could replicate a Battlefront game as well when they made a Battlefront game... {Ya I'm still salty about EA/DICE using Pandemic's SWB and SWB2 names to hype up EASWB and EASWB2 when they play completely differently.}
I dont get why kylo has the same ones as anakin considering how he was never trained by him and he should be less experienced then luke and alot less experienced then republic era lightsaber combat
@@Auvas_Damaskit's a type of lunge attack that happens when you swing a few times and then in middle of ur swinging you lunge onto an enemy idk exactly how many swings before you need to lunge
@@stiven355As I said, this also happens if you sprint while attacking. You can start the game and try it out yourself if you want, I know exactly it's true
While the similarities between vader and anakin are apparent and likely deliberate Most of the other shared moves were simply recycled with no deeper meaning on other characters, most of these similarities are a stretch at best
I remember watching an old behind the scenes video for Attack of the Clones, and the DC-15’s scope was meant to be able to be flipped around. The design for the rifle was a kitbash of some OT weapons, and it was settled upon for aesthetics alone, something I’m not too keen about.
BF2 with it's amazing detail cannot be understated. It is a tragedy how much heart went into this game when you really look at it, only for all of it to get buried by company greed.
Can you help me and let me know why Anikan, obi want, duko and grievous are greyed out on my charachters select screen please can you help me. Stay safe and well from Dublin ireland. Great video by the way.
I'll tell you one detail I didn't miss: predatory microtransactions that forced the community into a massive outrage until things have changed... And not even that much. Or are we pretending we forgot about that?
Luke didn’t train Rey. She’s somehow better at everything because the writers said she is. Is it boring and lazy? Yes. Does that make it bad? Also yes.
i was with you until you said kylo ren is like dark side Anakin, he isnt lmao. fun fact in the OT George lucus actually had Hayden christinsian slow down is swing patterns when doing the choreography because he was worried that the sword fights would not look real. kylo Ren moves like a person is carrying a wooden trunk for a lightsaber.
Mark Hamill trained with Bob Anderson. He did NOT swing like a baseball bat and is not a mock fighter like Daisy Ridley who CLEARLY did not have upper strenght. (she knew how to use that staff though!) They just did mo cap for X characters and played with the library to do extra characters.
