Solutions form when one substance (solute) dissolves in another substance (solvent) and they end up in the same state. Solutions are therefore homogeneous. There are a number of different types of solutions and we have already investigated alloys which are a solid state solution. Other solutions include air (gas state) and saline (salt in water). We will investigate solutions that form in the liquid state.
