@@vincenthooi1363 I have my seamstress replicate the original hem, which she is very good at, so as they wear they look right, I hate seeing jeans shortened with the wrong colour stitching and too large a hem, it reminds me of when my mum used to shorten my jeans as a kid.
I’m in the same boat, as I use to prefer the 511s, but recently picking up the 512s has made me realize this is my go to pair of jeans. The fit is more clean, as you can pair it well with boots and sneakers with no break.
Same! I also go for 511 and 512. But I've been liking the taper of 512 nowadays; I feel it's more modern. My last 2 purchases were 512, so I feel It's going to be my go to jeans from now on.
I'll be 63 very soon. Had stopped wearing jeans when I was 23, and never Levi's because I couldn't afford them back then. However, three years ago, after a life-threatening episode of pneumonia where I was hospitalised, I somehow got interested in blue jeans. Specifically Levi's. And "real" shoes. How did these come about at this ripe age? I don't know. But my wife was encouraging, and so I've gotten a few pairs of Levi's since then. The first was a conservative, playing safe, Made in Lesotho 505. After decades wearing only office pants and casual khakis, the 505 felt thick. But surprisingly it was very comfortable. In fact, during a second bout of pneumonia late last year, I chose to wear this when hospitalised (covered by blanket so that the nurse wouldn't ask me to change to "patient garb", until the second day). I also bought a second pair - a Made in Egypt 511 Slim Fit. I didn't know how suitable it would be on an early 60s guy (about your size). Asked my wife for her opinion at the fitting room, of whether I looked ridiculous. She said "Not at all", and that's the clincher. If everyone else in the world were to say otherwise, I wouldn't care. Because her opinion outweighs them all :) Just last week I bought another two pairs online via the Levi's official store during the "9/9 Sale". At 60% of the normal price. Another 505 and a 502 Taper Slim. Both are Made in Vietnam and of the same denim material as far as I can see and feel. This 505 isn't as comfortable as the previous store-bought pair though. The 502 is actually the main thing I wanted to talk about, to keep in line with this video's topic after the long background :) I love the look and feel, and this appears to be the most suitable for me. Taper is the sweet spot between the roomy 501 & 505 and 511 Slim Fit. I will certainly go for this cut with my next pair of Levi's. -- Petaling Jaya, Malaysia
Great video! Thank you for addressing that we are all shaped differently! My personal preference is the 541 since I have more room in the seat and thighs ❤️
Amazing work.Super basic outfit and light so we can just focus on fit. its insane how different jeans look on different body types. When i wear 501 - 502 i have similar look to 510s u wear. Was so weird to see you wearing 501 and lookd like trash bag :) Brands should add videos like that for each body type. 100x more helpful than a basic picture.
as a dude with ...beefier... thighs, I have been a big fan of the 531. After wearing them regularly for a while and going back to the 541, the 541 just feels too loose below the knee. I'm pretty bummed that Levi has discontinued the 531 and am now in the hunt for something to replace them as my go-to. Maybe the 512 but sized up?
yeah my 501 fit like skinny jeans on me I can barely walk up stairs. I recently got a pair of 505 and they bunch up and the bottom but I have plenty of room now. I only increased waist size from 32 to 34 but I kept the length the same. Yet somehow they are longer and want to hang off the ends of my shoes. Definitely no where near "almost the same". Think I'm gonna try some 512's
Great video Brock. Perfect timing as I have been considering buying 511 or 512 jeans. Personally 512 is my preference. However, would you say both are timeless fits? :)
Holy smokes, didn't know we have the exact WEIGHT and height... I only thought of you before as my favorite 5'6'' guy (along with Tim Dessaint). This video helped a lot as it IS really what I needed... I was looking for the complete Levi's video as Reddit posts don't seem to help me enough. Thank you so much as always!! Love your vids I'd say I'd go for the 512s as well since the 501s were just too loose in my opinion. Slim fits like the 511/512s will always suit my style and will always be timeless in my honest opinion.
Over the past few years the knees wear out so quick that I cut pieces of an old pair and glue it inside behind the knee. This happens regardless of any heavy labor. I was considering selling them to teenagers since most of their jeans that they just bought are shredded and full of holes already
you buy a black W32 L34 511 and the leg are slim and then you buy a blue W32 L34 511 and the leg are large fit is not the same. levis is no more what it used to be 30 years ago.
looking for a bit of advice. im short and stocky with larger thighs. i have a pair of 501s in a relaxed fit for everyday use. im looking at the 511 slim fit for something more dressy. would i be ok or should i stick with my usual. cheers in advance great vid
I loved Levis when I lived in the UK, because they always had every possible combination of waist and length so you could always get the perfect fit. Then I moved to Malaysia and went into the Levis shop. They only do one length of leg and it's not mine (and not most Malaysians' either). Obviously you could get them tailored, but what's the point if other brands just sell the right size to begin with or offer free adjustment like Uniqlo? Even online where there's really no excuse, the only option is 32 leg.
511 Slim 32 32 has been the best off the rack for me, perhaps a bit big in the waist, but in a 30 32 they don't fit my legs😆. Which one would be similar to the 511 with a bit more leg room so I can buy a 30 so it fits better in the waist? Or does that not exist?
I used to buy 514 but they dont really sell them anymore they told me 511 were the only similar but they fit me to skinny only 2 colors fits me perfect not to loose and to tight do you recommend me 512 ?
Bothers me so much that Levi's has been shrinking their leg holes over the years. Can't even wear then anymore without the knees ripping as soon as i bend my leg. Even the supposed boot cut Levi's are still basically a skinny jean these days.
the problem with levi´s is the fit is never consistent....they are made in China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc.....today you buy a pair of a certain size that might fit you perfect....buy another pair in 2 weeks in the same size and it´s total different fit.....that´s really unacceptable for me, it´s just gambling to get a good fit.......luckely there are like a 1000 other brands who make good (even better) jeans
I have a light and dark pair of both 511 and 501s. 511 I wear basically everyday with slimmer footwear (converse or casual sneaker). 501 I pretty much only wear with boots. Something to note, 501s have the classic button fly which I love. 5’7” 175lbs 32W/30L athletic build if that helps anyone!
It's the same with pretty much all denim: look at the waist measurement (not the size), rise, and whether or not the style is unsanforized, sanforized, dark or light wash to make your decision
not helpful when you don't want skin tight. none of these styles are a stated to be a loose fit. then again based on your build yo def wouldn't be wearing 551Z, 559's or 569's
Also to keep in mind that I have the 511 in a black wash and a light wash and I also have a pair of 511 Premiums that almost fit like a straight fit compared to the regular 511s. They make the regular 511s look like a skinny fit.
i've noticed with Levi's overall the fit is all over the place for even the same model of jeans. I recently bought two pairs of 541s from the Levi's website and one pair fits perfect while the other pair fit's baggier and the waist is too big, and both are supposed to be the same style and same size. The quality of Levi's has gone down the drain since they became popular again, and while the quality has gone down the price has went up. I remember years ago when a pair of Levi's cost $35.00 and now it's $50 - $70. I know part of that price change is due to inflation but it's also just because they are popular and Levi's knows people will still buy them even with a higher price tag.
501 is most comfortable jeans with 100% cotton I love my jeans that sit on my waist Its more comfortable than sit below jeans 511 with cotton ployester mix is my second favorite that is most comfortable and stylist look
I could never find jeans that fit me until I discovered stretch denim. Now I prefer the 510s with stretch. They hug my waist, which other jeans do not, and I like the snugness through the thighs and calves. We are both about the same size. I'm 5'4", 120 lbs. My favourite look is a pair of dark-washed jeans with a crisp white dress shirt and black double monk straps.
I’m also a 512 guy . And if you do remember I commented on your old jeans try on video that 512 would look fabulous on you . Thanks for such a good content. Stay stylish as always 💙…
Loving this video and your take on the iconic brand that is Levi's. It's so true - they're like the Coca-Cola of the denim world! With so many styles to choose from, it can definitely be overwhelming trying to find the perfect fit. Your video does a fantastic job of breaking down the different styles and providing valuable insight into which ones work best for different body types. I can't wait to see more content like this!
@@BrockMcGoff Thanks for your reply, Brock. I have been following your RU-vid vlogs for some time now. I love your content. Is it OK to ask if you can include in your next videos the bags (backpack, travel luggage, slings, etc) that you prefer to carry to keep you stylish? Keep sharing more Brock! 👍
I don’t know, Brock. I could be set in my ways, but if you asked me which pair looks the best on you I’d say the 510 skinny, and it’s not even close. If you sized up on the waist for comfort and hemmed to a no break or a quarter break they’d be perfect. Just my opinion.
I like skinny jeans but that doesn't look skinny at all to me. So far the only brand I've found that makes jeans of acceptable quality and look and feel good good to me while not costing an arm is Diesel (in outlets when theyre 30-50% off). Never been a fan of the 1990s baggy look that's been all the rage these recent years tbh
510s are my ride and die. I get them hemmed for a perfect fit. I don't think it's that uncomfortable though but, I'm a rock 'n' roller so, I guess that's the look we gravitate towards to. Also I powerlift at the same height and weight as Brock. I love flaunting my huge legs and ass with the 510s, with a tucked shirt, full grain belt and a full grain welted boot 🥾
super helpful to me, the numbers and the descriptions were not helpful to me, this video was. ended up going with 541s and hopefully they will fit well. thanks so much!
hey if i may ask, what is the width of the thigh area for the 541s and 505s? i'm someone around your height and i really dig the look of both of those jeans but i have pretty big thighs so i'm wondering if they would fit me or not. thanks
I don't usually comment on RU-vid, but I so appreciate this video. Very well information and just love to finally find someone around my same weight which helps a ton for me. Been following you for awhile now and love your videos. I just really want to say thank you!
