For people who don't know the current price on Steam is for the "Field Marshal Edition" - this is currently the only edition available for Pre-Order. This is *NOT* the base game price, this Edition comes with the base game plus 2 future DLC's and some extra cosmetics and missions. We don't yet know the price of the base game. (I made this video before there was any prices listed on Steam.)
Everyone who has played the shoe out of Panzer General in the 90ies and Panzer Corps 1, kows exactly what is waiting here for him.... Panzer Corps 2 is a wonderful successor to those titles. Loads of fun and replayability. Thanks for the review.
Looks pretty interesting. Not sure how much of a fan I am of the ammo/fuel system. I like the way Panzer General did it with having to take one turn for a unit to refuel or restock on ammo, it added a lot of strategy since you had to rotate units out once in a while and on that turn you were always weaker. Makes having a unit counterattack also a lot more costly since that uses up ammo too.
The other demo that I saw had the self supply turned on. He was constantly running out of gas in his tanks. Maybe this guy was just playing the easy option.
On the other hand encircling units is a new level of strategy, you can weaken an army by doing so (and they can weaken you). Basically you have to keep a line of supply open
Order of Battle is basically an enhanced Panzer Corps with a different supply system. If you like OOB you'll more than likely really enjoy this (and the original too!)
@@jeffjensen8 Half Life: Alyx(though admittedly I don't have VR presently so I won't play it, still fascinating to see if Valve have their magic or not though), Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord's early access(unless the next dev diary they talked about is to announce a delay, which is possible), and Doom Eternal. Those are the three I'll be very interested in. One sequel to one of the most popular games of the last decade and two games that for a long time were questionably never going to come out(if you count Alyx as Half Life 3, which is a bit questionable, I'll admit.)
@@caementicium284 Oh, awesome! I've been really looking forward to Bannerlord! Also looking forward to the Juggernaut version of State of Decay 2, myself!
Very good intro -- you're the first one out of five to 10 Panzer Corps 2 online posters that realizes the complexity of the game and the nuances of the units and characteristics. Everybody else unfortunately is playing it like a child's 'Army Men' game setup on a coffee table in their den. So sad for Matrix slitherine, that that's what's going on. I am not a fan of the map and unit interface with 200 ft tall soldiers and the puke green terrain colors. The inability to kill an enemy unit needs to be changed post haste.
Yup the Panzer Corps series is directly inspired by :) the Panzer General games developers are proud of that! There's even a mod of the original campaigns in the PC1 engine :)
that's sound pretty good giving 100 different units. But knowing my strategy moves ill be losing tons, strategy in these types of games is not my strong suit. Man wish i knew a LiL som-som just to be able to play it. Guess is som like Chess
@@konebrieber2390 I understand your fear of it, but the timer is important to the game. It keeps you from having full / overstrength units with good supply for every attack, or from cheesing the game by encircling the enemy every time for easy wins. I could be wrong, but I think easier difficulties have more relaxed turn limits too!
@@konebrieber2390Have you ever played the original, or Order of Battle (both are very similar games)? You could download Order of Battle and check it out and see if the turn limits really do turn you off of the game! It's free on Steam which gives you access to a few campaign missions to play around in
Yeah it could easily run, but strategy games dont typically sell well on consoles and it cost money to port games, get them certified and put on consoles, that’s why a lot of them don’t unfortunately. I think its been happening more lately though which is good
@@RepublicOfPlay I think the decline of Strategy as a whole and the expansion of certain studios has lead to more strategy games coming to console. Ex. Paradox and Firaxis
Not sure what is the point of this game... I own Panzer Corps (paid crazy money for what it was) and this one does not look much better AND still doesn't have historical flags. I bet they will be asking crazy money for it again cos it's a niche genre. Buy suckers!
I'm looking at getting this game a year after your overview. I really appreciate your clear and concise descriptions of how play works and game features.
@@jeffjensen8 Even with extra units that one just eats them up. I'm hoping someone mods that campaign in PC 2 the whole series is long, but worth playing.
@@mikefisher2673 I just played through that section recently and, like most people, I had an armor heavy core army, which as you probably know doesn't work well at ALL through those ~4 missions!
I am having a hard time justifying this purchase. I own the first version of Panzer Corp and I also own Order of Battle with all the DLCs. Do I really need another game that travels down the same path?
Damn, I personaly dislike the 3D graphic. The PC1 graphic was way better. I understand they wanted to improove the game, but they could just make a better AI, new maps, new alternative history road, bigger longer campaign, possibility to play for ex. Italian campaign, etc, all of this with the old graphics.
excellent noob analysis and i been playing since pg1 which is the grand daddy so i know what he is talking about and i say welcome to your addiction....
I'm SO excited to try this out as I've become a PanzerCorps devotee the past couple of months and have patiently waited for PanzerCorps2 to go on special. (Ugh...I absolutely hate the Russian M1939 85mm!) It looks like the same basic gameplay of the first one but the area of control and encirclements addition is something I can't wait to try. It also looks like the upgrade system has even more depth as upgrading and employing experienced units is the real fun of the game for me.
This is the exact kind of video I wanted to see to decide if I wanted to buy it. I wanted to see the mechanics so I could see how it compares to other hex games I've played. Tell the company that they just got a sale specifically because of you.
I thought this was an excellent video! Having played previous games i was familiar, but having you go into such great detail describing all the mechanics really brought back the old games and made me want to get this one. Well done.
you should consider doing a more in depth video, especially one about the axis operations dlc. its some of the most fun ive ever had with a turn based strategy game
I am hoping the difference between PC1 and PC2 is the AI. PC1 Ai was largely scripted around puzzles. The AI did not react to player strategy. Your feature sounded hopeful the AI has been rewritten.
Seems like a fun game worth a try. Your review was pretty good too like always. And btw, when you said it Poland, should be easy. Poland wasn't easy, they found pretty well and hard, no offense to the French but harder then them at battle of France.
Main reason why ppl are bad in this game is that they never learn about terrain and how important infantry is. It is one of those games which dont have much rules but it is extremly hard to play it without knowing them.
I enjoyed the older games like this one. This looks pretty good. But the price on Steam for it is more than I have ever paid for a game in my life. It would have to be amazing for me to spend that much on it.
I've updated a pinned comment about this, as it seems to be trapping a few people: For people who don't know the current price on Steam is for the "Field Marshal Edition" - this is currently the only edition available for Pre-Order. This is *NOT* the base game price, this Edition comes with the base game plus 2 future DLC's and some extra cosmetics and missions. We don't yet know the price of the base game. Is it possible to play the scenarios from both sides? Like for example play the battle of Crete as Greece or ANZAC or are we going to have to reverse engineer them in the editor if we want that?
So it’s Advanced Wars in WW2. Except with a thousand units. And you can make your commanding officer from the ground up. But way more complex stats. This pleases me to no end. And oh god you don’t have refuel in battle. So you CAN buy units in the middle of a battle and they’ll deploy in that battle? So like advanced wars factories?
Yup! But they have to deploy back at your starting area, so takes a while to move up - imo its much better to just reinforce what you have than to bring in new units
I hope they fix the re-rolling issue. Mainly, that the first roll is nonsensical. Like 2 Polykarpovs vs 6 BF109s, 2 BF109s left... they should use a weighted dice roll. I've loved the fact that you could rewrite history;)) I won the second WW with Germany and invaded the US.
In Panzer Corps 1 you have options for the dice rolls. There are 3 options that I remember: Chess, Semi-chess and Random. Chess is basically "This unit will do this much damage, guaranteed". Semi-chess has some slight variance to that, but damage done / received will often be what it says, and then random, you often do the damage predicted, but sometimes you'll do less, and sometimes you'll do even more than predicted. I play on Random to make it more interesting.
So Order Of battle but with better graphics and no hex control? Don't forget that Panzer Corps 2 costs more than a brand new game which I find ridiculously high of a cost considering that there are games that already allow you to do those things. I also saw a interview where one of the developers were only talking about graphics. Sorry, but no. This is like buying a chocolate bar that has the same taste like the other chocolate bars but just looks "better".
Currently theyre only listing the field marshal editions price for pre order - the base game will be cheaper - but i agree, i wouldnt pay more than $25
@Common Sense Nope, the Field Marshal Edition will be 15% higher in price once the Pre-Order is over. There's another edition too, the "General Edition" which doesn't have it's price listed yet either, and nor does the "Base Game". I think they're just trying to confuse people into pre-ordering it. Guess it's working.
I hope there's a Historical Flag mod like there was for PC1... i'm really tired of Political Correctness in my WW2 games... please stop rewriting history to make it politically correct.
@Common Sense Panzer Corps 2 Field Marshall Edition: £54.99 You save 15% if you Pre-Order it: £46.74 The base game price hasn't been listed yet. The field Marshal Edition comes with -4 Wallpapers -4 Scenarios -Digital Soundtrack -First 2 DLC's -75 Skins So without the extra content, the game should be much cheaper than the Field Marshal Edition.
@Common Sense Slitherine games are always priced high? Since when? They've always been below full-price. They even have quite a few games that are even just $10 (Drive to Moscow, Vietnam '65 etc.) a bunch for $20-30, and then their top-end games (Strategic Command series, Armageddon, Close Combat, etc.) are ONLY $40 - games that almost certainly have many times more content than games people are happy to pay $60 for. For instance, I have ~300 hours in Panzer Corps, and about 141 in Order of Battle and I still haven't touched a lot of the DLC's for it that I own. Why do people love to crap on Slitherine? I don't get it. Are people legitimately mad that they make and sell DLC for their games?
