Sarah I was in New York last year I use a manual sports wheelchair and found getting about by transport a nightmare as you can’t use the subway as you don’t know where there is access. As a result I pushed myself around for miles and couldn’t see everything I wanted to, I’m coming back next year from the UK so please can you do a video for all of us that can’t walk or get about so easy as I’d love to see more of your great city that I see in your videos thanks.
Same here. Wife uses a cane, cannot do subway stairs or long escalators, many subway stations do not have working elevators, so it's all Uber or Lyft or Revel for us.
My Mum and I travelled to New York from Australia this time 5 years ago (gosh where did that time go? ) and before we went, I did a lot of research. That way I had a list of things that I wanted to do and things if I had time (we were there for 11 nights), ended up I got through it all which was awesome. Mum also had her list as well. I ended up watching videos on New York which give me insight as to what I needed to do beforehand. Saved us time and money.
Sarah helping you get the most bang for your buck when you visit the big apple 🍎. This is an educational video & a fiscally responsible one 👍 Thanks Sarah 😊
YEAH a new video! Side note: I wish I listened to you when it came to the fireworks 😢 you was right about the start time, I missed allot of the shots I wanted
Great tip on Madame Tussauds. I work in London across the road from Madame Tussauds, Baker Street, and get mad at how many tourists waste their time & money there.
You had a great tip for making sure that people don't get scammed. I thought that I would have a great learning experience at a place called Smart Start, but what I didn't know is that I would be alone with the instructor for all of my classes. It was not completely bad though because I took an Internet Safety class and that was when the instructor was really nice to me. 💓😍
In Brooklyn, for example, if you stay near 4th Ave, there are allot of hotels that charge maybe 125 a night (sometimes 110 if you can get a deal). The subway is a block or 2 away. If you stay around 36th street you have industry city nearby. 5th ave in Brooklyn has allot of trendy shops as well. So staying at a hotel along or near 4th Ave Brooklyn could be a good move.
I'm in Windsor T. and vouch for this. Fourth Ave. itself is nothing to write home about -- it's not scary, just kind of industrial. 36th is the heart of Sunset Park and that subway station is an express stop; much faster than crawling on the R to go to the City from Brooklyn. It's also a great nabe itself. And if you like history, Green-Wood is pretty much right there.
Well done, Sarah - I've been to NYC several times, and I've just realized that I had paid far too much for some of the tourist attractions. 😢 Luckily, I started following your channel about two years ago. Therefore, I definitely believe that will NOT happen again. THANKS a lot for your great advice, and by the way, I would also like to book the food tour with your husband. I just hope to travel there really soon!!
Just remember that while MOST subway cars are air conditioned it doesn’t always work and the platforms aren’t air conditioned, last week I waited at 38th for the C train and my phone said it was over 90 degrees during my 11 minute wait for the train. That’s a long time in excessive heat without a breeze, a seat or access to drinking water. And then we got on to a car where the AC was broken!
There is McDonalds on Times Square and got a view too. I like to have a hotel in Queens with a view on Manhattan. Nice to watch night skyline from the comfort of hotel
Are you going to spend more than one hour on transportation and drag your suitcase up and down the stairs? The easiest way to go to the city is to take the airport bus. From JFK to bus terminal by way of grand central.
I usually travel with my parents who are both senior citizens with mobility issues. What would you recommend for us ? My parents and I usually take taxis
I was in New York last month with my BF and this CD guy kept insisting that we take the CD and we said no like 3 times and then he called my BF a racist! And my biggest mistake was going to MnM’s world, with the wide variety, I got pretty carried away and ended up spending 23$ USD for MnM’s! M
I went to madame tussads, they are rip offz you get to see the exibits you pay for example they have 3 elevators if yoi pay for exibit 1 you ride on the 1first elevator which you only see wax figurines in one floor etc etc you may be lucky to see 20 figures not worth the high prices you want the grand tour its $300:or by now more
Funk a real one for recording through loud sirens because that's what a real NY'er does... also a suggestion doing another scam video but giving all of you worst enemy scammers counterfeit money on purpose.
I'm surprised how overpriced is everything in New York... I'm wondering where people actually buy their grosseries without paying 5 dollars for a small bottle of water... hop on hop off buses worthy? 🙄 I didn't enjoy it...rather subway and walking..much more freedom
Why do RU-vidrs women always have squeaky voices and then make us have to listen to music over trying to hear their voices too. Do they not get the entire purpose of listen to someone on a RU-vid video is to hear them, other wise why not just learn by reading information in the peace of our own minds.
I live in the East Village but last month I was in between leases and needed to find a place to live for 1 month. Staying in the city was expensive so I ended up going to Flushing for about $45 a night. At that point the new LIRR station in Grand Central was open, and I kid you not, going from there (and it is way out there) would take 25 minutes and cost $5 dollars (LIRR inside the city is cheaper, don't over pay for that either!). I was coming into the city every day and it was just the best way. Also, if you are wondering why I didn't take the 7 train, it was because I was still farther east than Downtown Flushing and I would need to take a bus first to get there. The LIRR was a life saver! If you don't mind paying the extra 2.25 that it costs, it can save you 30 minutes each way.
I did the NY pass with my family for 2 days and we visited like 10 attractions, 3 observation decks, Statue of Liberty, The Ride buss, Ny Rise, 9-11 memorial, Yankees game, bike rental, for $189 very worth it, just need to plan ahead. Taxi can be the major expense. Subway is the best!! Cheap and quick, specially with the unlimited card, we used the subway like 25 times!!👍🏼 thanks for your videos!! Really help me in my vaccinations plan.
We are visiting at the end of this month. We come from a city without subways and feel intimidated by them but also want to try because well, it's NYC! did you feel safe while riding subways?
@@chrisroberts8197 yes, subway was safe, you may encounter weird people, but our experience was ok, we went in subway all the way to Coney Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn and no issues for us, we asked people sometimes about routes and they were very friendly and helpful, aver all is the way to move around the city, we live in the Midwest and it wasn’t really complicated. The city is crazy but was safe for us, lots of police around.
Sarah, You should do an updated video on public transportation from LaGuardia. The one you have from a few years ago is WAY out of date. It's so much easier now. The Q70-SBS LaGuardia Link bus is fantastic. It's free, repeat free. You don't have to mess around trying to figure out how to get a ticket. Those buses come frequently and go directly to 74th/Roosvelt Ave subway station. The last time was super convenient because my hotel was close to the Port Authority subway station. It was less than a five minute walk to my hotel, and I only bring a carry on. p.s. I have told this to another NYC youtuber and they just ignored it, preferring to give out-dated info.
I watch all your videos and you give pretty good tips I like your style I like what to wear in different seasons thank God I’m going in September for the 1st time to Manhattan. I went in April to Niagara Falls and I froze my butt off. Lol.
There's so much to like, and that is quite professional about your presentation, Sarah. But the way you (don't) pronounce the _tts_ in Manhattan, well... you might a well be Cockney.
This video is a must-watch for anyone planning a trip to New York! 🗽 You really hit the nail on the head with these 8 things tourists always overpay for. It’s eye-opening to see how much you can save just by being aware of these common traps. From transportation tips to dining deals, this guide is packed with valuable advice that can make any NYC trip more budget-friendly. Thanks for helping us avoid those tourist pitfalls and enjoy the city without breaking the bank! 💸✨
Great tips. If you are going to spend a lot of time in Manhattan, I recommend areas of Manhattan where the hotel rates are lower. I would not go to other boroughs or Long Island because it will be a headache traveling back and forth. Also, 3-star hotels in NYC are closer to 2-stars so stay away from them unless you are familiar with that hotel.
Agree except: Using public transportation from Laguardia is a nightmare. And there's not much of a price difference between hotels in lower Manhattan and Long Island City.
Yeap! The Buddhist monk got me, and I am US born...Damn, I was pissed at myself. Because of this, NO-ONE receives anything from me...I have fking Hawkeyes LOL now!!
My mom & I took an impulsive pedicab ride from a theater to our hotel. I swear the guy was barely pedaling! He did make it fun by playing music & doing circles in the road but it was so expensive! I did ask him if he’d discount the fee if we paid cash which he agreed to & we didn’t tip. There was no meter so I felt like he had flexibility on those matters. He still made like $120 on what would have been a $20 car ride. Live & learn!! For us: no more NYC pedicabs!!
My travel goal is to stay at The Plaza! Save on food by visiting Whole Foods, yummy food hot bar/salad bar and reasonable. I love NY and try to get there as much as I can but I will never take the subway😆 It's all walking or Lyft Pink for me!🍎🗽
I find that most passes, whether city pass or a transportation pass, to never be worth it. You just don't use it enough. That said, with OMNY on the NYC subway and buses you get the discounted rate when you go above the ride threshold, which I believe is 12 rides in any 7 day period. It's a great deal if you plan on hopping on and off the subway or bus a lot, but even better because it doesn't require any advance planning. Also, the best way from JFK is Airtrain and the LIRR. It now goes to Grand Central in addition to Penn. And some of the best attractions are free, The High Line, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park. And for a boat ride? NYC Ferry is only $4 for a cruise up and down the East River and to Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
I searched on airbnb on your advice and got a BEAUTIFUL Brownstone in Bed-Stuy for a week. We absolutely fell in love with the house and the neighborhood! I can't wait to go back!
I don't get the Madame Tussauds hate.. it's going to be equally pricey and touristy in any city you visit, because thats the nature of the attraction -- it's gimmicky. Might as well do it in NYC or whatever city you're in. A better tip would be to find a deal on Groupon or something. But i dont think it's scammy or not worth the price of admission. 🤷♀️ Just a strange message.. is it pricey? Sure. But it's the best version of the thing that it is -- a wax museum.
A lot has changed in the 2 months since this video was posted. Public transport is now $2.90. Airbnb is now illegal in NYC for short stays (under 30 days).
