Gone In 60 Seconds (2000) is a great, fun film that's filled with detail and action. However it's also got its fair share of car related errors (some quite big) and awesome behind the scene stories. So just for fun, and in fondness for the film, I've picked 8 of my favourite mistakes or details in the movie that only car enthusiasts will likely notice or even care about.
Please do enjoy.
Thanks.

The reason the Lamborghini Diablo was used in place off the Lamborghini LM002 is the LM002 was too expensive and too rare to be used in the film. Most of the cars were rare and hard to find so they opted for a different variant of the car in place of that actual car on the list

Props for saying Brougham correctly! 57/58 Broughams are extremally rare with only 704 built. They were a money no object technological marvel. Yes, air ride in all 4 corners, but it also had power open close trunklid controlled from the glovebox and the lock on the rear of the car. And automatic locks. And 2 way memory drivers seat. And a transmission lock out if either rear door is open. And it came loaded with vanities such as: 1 oz. of Arpege perfume and atomizer, leather bound note pad and silver cross pen, 6 magnetic drinks tumblers that magnetize to the open glove box, make up kit, and a beveled handheld mirror.

Dominic Sena deserves so much credit for directing this masterpiece. The way he framed shots with the lighting and the way he made Eleanor to be a mytical creature really allowed you to feel what Memphis was feeling. The soundtrack really fit the movie well and it had a great balance of wholesome action and emotionally significant moments without having needless sex or filler. The movie was really ahead of its time and I never tire of it.

The Porsche 959 was illegal in the USA at the time, only in 2001 Bill Gates was able to receive his 959 who bought in the 80's, thanks to the "show and display law", but some 959's were imported in the "grey market" nonetheless

You're forgetting that back in 2000 the 'show and display' rule would have exonerated the 959 though.
@davidjoe3368
@davidjoe3368 Год назад
959's were illegal in the U.S.A, because Porsche refused to allow their 959's to be crash tested by the U.S. Department of Transportation and Highway safety, because of the sheer cost to produce the 959. After Porsche saw what the DOT had done to a couple of Ferrari F40's that were submitted by Ferrari for testing, which the DOT totally destroyed with their tests, Porsche refused to allow the DOT to destroy two 959's valued at a million dollars. It cost Porsche half a million dollars to produce a 959 in the late 1980's, and they were selling them for a quarter million dollars each, to advertise and expand their brand with a Supercar. So literally, Porsche was losing a quarter million dollars on each 959 they sold! Good for the well heeled Porsche buyer's of the time, but bad for Porsche, well, kind of. By refusing to allow crash tests by the U.S. DOT, Porsche could not get signed off by the DOT to sell the 959 in the U.S.. Later because of the show and display law, 959 owners were allowed to drive their 959's, no more than 2000 miles per year, and holds true to this day.

I still am required to smog the truck, even though the truck is 37 years old! Also, in addition to Number 7, by going with a Mustang, it ties back to the original 1973 film, as Eleanor, which were two 1971 Ford Mustang Sportsroofs that were painted school bus yellow and parts replaced to mimic the 1974 design. One of the Eleanors was used mainly for the 40 minute chase sequence and still exists in it's damaged but still functional state. The other was a standby vehicle used for certain scenes (like during the previous attempts to steal the Mustang were made). Essentially, by going with the Mustang for the 2000 remake and by heavily modifying the vehicle to look like a certain type of Mustang, it follows along the same tradition that H.B. Halicki himself followed when making the 1973 film.

My guess on the Caddy air suspension scene is that the answer is far simpler. They likely originally intended to have a Brougham in the scene, but couldn't source one. So, they put the other Caddy in ... and then (for whatever reason) didn't change the dialog for the scene.

This is almost "8 mistakes only list enthusiasts would notice". It would have been a mistake to make it with a GT40 though, the Mustang chase was literally the only good bit of the original. In fact mistake 9 should be not including a Mustang-switch-car-wash scene.
@AveragetoPoor
@AveragetoPoor 4 года назад
Haha yes you're right, the list really did offer a fair few mistakes, in fact, there were several more that I didn't include in the video in order to keep the duration down. I agree with you regarding the GT40, although it would've been interesting to see how a GT40 Eleanor would've been presented for the movie, as I imagine it would also have been tastefully modified as the GT500 Eleanor was. I'm wondering how many of those cars, specially the European ones, were not available in the US. Also, that all the cars, some of them really rare, could be found in one area of the world. Pretty sure that for some of them you have to drive a loooong way to find them

13:15 okay so here’s what happened. It appears they planned on being able to film the SUV Lambo but ironically they were able to find an even more rare Diablo. They probably assumed the suv would be easy but it’s incredibly rare. You can tell they took this assumption pretty far bc if you look close, some scenes have both lambo on the screen eg the scene from the left side angle when Otto is writing on the board but in the famous front on shot, they just have “lambo” cut off which is the Diablo. Further, they actually show the Diablo on screen. More proof the original plan was both but couldn’t get the SUB. which brings your list down to 50 as they never actually show stealing the Lambo suv for this reason

When I saw the movie in the theatre I thought the biggest mistake is that it was called "Gone in 60 seconds" and was almost entirely different in every way than the original movie, including the star of the show, Mustang, which was originally a Mach 1. That's pretty nuts that the GT500 in this version wasn't on the list, because that would actually change the entire end of the movie, meaning he would have had all the cars stolen in time, and everyone would be happy. 🙄

There's another mistake in the movie concerning the Bill Bixby trivia question as to what cars he drove in three different series that he starred in. Offhand I don't remember the wrong answers, but the correct answers to the question were that in the courtship of Eddie's father he drove a Ford pickup truck, in the magician he drove a Corvette, and in The incredible hulk he walked. The movie mixed up the answers.

Thanks for watching, and good question! I hope you don't mind a lengthy response. So I decided to delete the Fast and Furious videos for a few reasons. Firstly, whilst they were by far my most popular videos I never really was very fond of them myself. I much prefer telling interesting stories such as those in my car history videos, so I was particularly attached to the Fast and Furious videos. Secondly, whilst they were supposed to be very light hearted and produced in fondness of the films, (the only reason I noticed some of the mistakes was because of how many times I've watched the movies) too many people seemed to see them as an attack on the franchise, and I didn't like the negativity that came with that. And thirdly, despite the video being well and truly covered under Fair Use Copyright Law, Universal Studios illegally claimed my video as their own and in doing so also claimed all ad revenue that came with it. Whilst I don't make any of my videos for financial reasons (I've barely made $100 over the last 2 years from running this channel), I found it annoying that this greedy, multi billion dollar company was breaking the law and essentially stealing money from me. So when considering all this last week I thought "to hell with it", and decided to just delete the videos. I hope that all makes sense, and again, thanks for watching and for your interest!

Missed a big one. In the 1970’s TV series “The Rockford Files”, Jim Rockford, played by James Garner, drove a Pontiac Firebird Esprit. During a stake out the car thieves in Gone in 60 Seconds break up the boredom by asking car trivia questions on their radios: They refer to the car from the Rockford files as 1973 Firebird Esprit, but for that show Jim Rockford never drove a 1973. The earliest model Firebird Esprit ever shown in that series was a 1974. :-)

As this is an older video I'm guessing someone may have caught this but just in case. At 7:06 when you were talking about the Jaguar XJ you mentioned two different engine options an inline 6 and a V8, however the inline 6 was discontinued in 1996 with the end of the X300 chassis code, and the V8 started in 1997 with the X308. There were two engine options in 1998 but they were both V8's both 4 litre 4 cam, one naturally aspirated with 250hp (XJ8) and the other supercharged with 375hp(XJR). The X300 XJ also had an R variant using the supercharged 4 litre DOHC inline 6, the same engine was also found in the Aston Martin DB7. Perhaps it wasn't a mistake so much as an odd choice to include the XJ6 at all?

Slight correction: Jaguar X308s (1997-2003) only come with a V8, so they are XJ8s. With the supercharger and some other upgrades, you have an XJR XJ6s were from the previous generations when they had inline 6s (and the XJR had a V12)
