Believe it or not, we have been renovating this fixer upper for 8 months so it is time for our 8 month progress tour!! It is so fun to see all the progress we have made in the last 8 months and to look back on where the house was when we began. We also take a winter walk in the woods, because it is SO lovely to see beautiful stone walls and creek with all the snow... I hope you enjoy!!
THE BEFORE TOUR→ • I bought a MAJOR Fixer...
Partners with Ethiopia→ partnerswithet...
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! Follow along on my channel if you want to see DIY projects, renovating a house on a budget, and I am sure a lot of craziness along the way! I'm just a girl with a drill and a dream.

You are SO lucky to have to have your MOM to do the filming , She is a GREAT LADY , may you grow up to be just like her. When you get around to the walls , if the rocks are still around the area , your DAD could help do the lifting with the excavator to rebuild them . Keep at it , the job id coming along wonderfully .

Idea? Take photos of the creek, stone walls etc, in both winter and summer, showing the differences. Then, get the photos enlarged to poster size, then hang them in prominent places once your house is done. Brag to everyone that you took the photos..lol. Another tip was given to me years ago with regards to photography... get in close and then get in closer. Experiment and then see what you come up with.

You are coming along nicely with the renovation. You are so lucky to have this beautiful piece of land, creek, walls as part of your property. The walls will be little micro climate for plants. I can just envision a whole mass of daffodils against the wall the you see from the house. Have a Blessed weekend.

Just wondering Abby,no bathroom upstairs, think you'll regret it,you should make that second bedroom a little smaller and put in a bathroom, not fun having to go all the way downstairs in the middle of the nite to use it,or in the morning when your getting ready for work and clothes are all upstairs. Just something to think about.

You have done a great job thus far. The only thing thing I would suggest is keep your work area clean at the end of the day. Building and remodeling two homes. My neighbor and I did both together. He would always at the end of the day clean up the area inside and out. I thought it was stupid. But in a couple or more times it saved us from having major accidents. One time it involved a very large picture window. The wind caught us and the window went down on the ground with no damage. You have done a great job. Enough of my rambling 👍👍👍

Yes, thinking through everything is a good Idea. I forgot you still have to build the bathroom and laundry room. Is there gonna be water pipes on exterior walls? You will probably want to make sure those are super insulated. If its possible try to locate water pipes on interior walls there is less of a chance of frozen pipes.

WATCHING THERE IS LIGHT COMING THRU YOUR OUTSIDE WALLS makes me think you might need a vapor barrier then coat the vapor barrier with closed cell spray foam to seal it all up then if you wanted you could fill the rest of the space between the studs with open cell or..... you could get a insulation man to come and give you advice there's my 2 cents

Abbey, it will be fun and a lot of work up coming yet for sure. When you have the house near done as you always want to do something in or around it. That will certainly keep you out of trouble and thin with so much to do. Have to look for that stone mason now ahead of time or get lessons how to do the work. Do you ever wish it was a new built house and get into it sooner? Maybe could’ve been totally the house to dream about? I hope being a 150 yr old house that state funding or tax credit is available. I can’t believe 8 mo. Have gone by!

Upstate NY is so amazing. As I've stated previously, I'm from Rensselaer and Columbia Co. NY., foothills of the Berkshires, absolutely gorgeous country. We had a stream that came down our hill that was so awesome, we put a wishing well on top of the spare well, so cute... Then came January thaws, June hail/rain storms, we even had a tornado take down massive old trees (thankfully) and that little stream was a big threat to our land, especially when the snow melted. Our driveway was right next to it. Anyway, I'm so glad your house isn't that close to the water, definitely make sure your backyard is raised and has a concrete retaining wall. Water is our friend AND our enemy
