Thanks, Chris! One other feature you left out works if you have a mouse with a scroll wheel. Control+Option+Scroll wheel zooms horizontally and vertically wherever the mouse is. Option+scroll wheel zooms vertically, and Option+Shift+scroll wheel zooms horizontally. Thanks for the great videos!

Just tried it with my MX Master 3 mouse, works great! Thanks for that additional tip. I also found that it works great with Magic Trackpad 2-finger touch + Option key.

And with a magic mouse or track pad it's even easier. Swipe up/down or left/right while you hold option for a vertical or horizontal zoom.

I've been using Logic every day for a few years now. Zooming has always been my biggest frustration with it. I think I just got lazy with learning all of Logic's features and key commands. This video is a lifesaver. Thanks for making it 🙏🏻

good luck. I’ve tried all this. Still doesn’t work. Logic zoom sucks. Hold command which will give you the marquee tool. It looks like a crosshair. Then click anywhere you want to zoom. Then press Z. Press Z again to zoom out. That’s the only thing that helps a little bit Reaper has zoom in and out on cursor with mouse scroll wheel. Why can’t we just learn that into logic?
@johnviera3884
@johnviera3884 8 месяцев назад
Also you can go to preferences and choose click zone for marquee tool. Then you just have to click the bottom half of any region without having to hold down command

There is also a way to zoom in the selected track. It's useful when you navigate between tracks. I just forgot the shortcut lol

always used trackpad with no problem, but the studio's i'm going to be working at will have just a keyboard and mouse with no trackpad. I need to work more efficiently at these studios so learning how to do this without a trackpad will help, i highly suggest learning this way earlier than I am doing lol

at 2:32 those are crazy sounding strings. are they tapping the back. of the cello? it sounds like a 16” kick drum

Very helpful but why on earth can’t we just use the mouse with the scroll wheel to zoom like most other daws. This really annoys me with logic

Having used page layout and graphics software before using Logic, my first instinct was to look for the hand tool to grab the 'layout' and move it where I want. I still really miss this functionality as it's a very intuitive way to move around the arrangement. Actually I haven't used Logic much for several years, maybe it's in there now?

No Hand tool in Logic, but look at the other comments for very smooth ways to get the same result using the input device you have.

I've found the Mark Ronson Watch the Music Grid (labeled "Crate Digging"), and it loads with the loops fully populated, but there are no regions in the tracks area. Can anyone tell me where to find the regions? Thanks!

I can’t even find the Watch the Music Grid file. Can you tell me where it should be?

can’t I just use pro tools/ cubase commands for view otions or something, logic seems unnecessary complicates

The zooming with Command and the arrow keys is not good for me. I dislike having to take my right hand off the mouse. Some other daws have better thought out key commands. I like some of Studio One’s key commands that I use in Logic. Zooming in and out Horizontally with E and W, and vertically with Shift + E and Shift + W. Along with using the Function keys (F1/F2..) to open Midi/Mixer/Inspector/Browser.

Magic mouse or track pad is the best solution. Hold option key and scroll.

I have some additional navigation and zoom key commands I think that will help flying around your projects. 1. Horizontal scroll through workspace Shift + Scroll wheel (Up or Down) to view workspace from left to right 2. Vertical Zoom slider 1. Option + Scroll Wheel 3. Horizontal Zoom slider 1. Option + Command + Scroll Wheel

Do you actually remember all those key commands with multiple function keys or do you have a poster with all the possibilities? Is there a way to just use a mouse and accomplish the same thing? Also; where are tracks 3-21? Perhaps I missed that somewhere prior. Thanks for these tutorials. They are the best!

Logic has the worst navigation of any DAW, coming from someone who has years of experience in almost every DAW. Who has the best? Reaper, and it aint even close. Horizontal Zoom: Place your mouse cursor over the event and use you mouse wheel. Vertical Zoom: Place your mouse cursor over the event and use you mouse wheel + CMD

Learned some new zooming tricks, thanks to you Chris! And it's nice that you're using the 'Crate Digging' Starter Grid (with some new colours!) in Tracks view, it makes your demo on zooming come alive even more.

Somehow while following this tutorial I accidentally transposed some vocal lines of mine? What key command did I accidentally press to transpose things?

Option + Up Arrow while on a Midi track. LOL at me coming back to this comment 5 months later.

This was really helpful. I was used to the zoom feature in Cubase where you drag the playhead downward to zoom and wondered why Logic didn't do that, but you showed that it does with the help of the option key. And the other tips were good. Thanks for these videos.

Hey, is there any way to zoom like in Fl Studio or Ableton?
@jfbmusic
@jfbmusic Год назад
The closest way to do it is what Chris shows in this video: Hold down Option and drag up or down on the playhead thumb (the handle at the top of the playhead) -- don't know if FL Studio and Live do zooming the same way, but that's the closest way to do it in Logic. But I think you'll find that using scroll wheel or Magic Mouse/Trackpad with Option key is a lot smoother without needing to reach for that playhead thumb.
