I hope you dig the dimensional tones, gang. 3 things 1) Please let me know what your favorite pedal in the video was 2) Please let me know what your own favorite stereo pedal is. 3) Please consider leaving a like or sharing this video with your friends. Every single piece of engagement goes such a long way and means more to the potential growth of the channel than you could possibly imagine. Thank you so much for your kindness and constant support
I loved the Pyramids, I'm not a flanger guy but the synth with the step mode is just too good. My personal favorite pedal in stereo is the Dimension C, so LUSH.
To me, in this video the Polymoon was the best. Horizont and Hedra next. I like Pyramids a lot, but I feel it depends a lot on what you throw at it to shine, your demo was really great, but honestly I haven't been impressed with anyone elses demo about it, so I think it was your amazing talent and the arsenal you have at your disposal. Having said that, feeding Hedra into Polymoon is a galactic dream. Horizont is on a league its own.
I don't have that many stereo pedals actually. I love the ones I have and these are the Keeley 30ms Doubletracker and the Neunaber Immerse Reverberator. I used to have 19" effect rack units and run them in a wet-dry-wet rig until I realized that it didn't really make much sense. Most people in the audience would never hear the full stereo effect anyway, so you lose the goodness of playing stereo and you lose a lot of power. Since then I decided to go back to mono and everything straight through the middle. For studio stuff I mostly rely on overdubs and post production stereo effects. But my Keeley and my Neunaber..., these sounds can't be duplicated. Well, maybe they can, but it's hard to play without the effects when your music is based all around it. :-)
That pedal was way ahead of its time, man. People weren't ready for it when it was released back in the day. Its feature set is certifiably futuristic. If something like it was released today, it would sell a ton
What will provide the wettest dripping water spaciest heavenly twinkling stars type sounds? That is the one I am looking for! Can you post it up? thanks. I have been looking for that sound for about 5 years..
Glad you're back, man. Great theme- I fell in love with stereo imaging when I got the Immerse mkii. Rooms sounds lush af. Wow! I want to play in there. And...my jaw fell open with the Slicer. That thing never quite made it onto my radar- though I'd heard of it peripherally. If the Gigadelay is "Mogwai in a box," then the Slicer is "four tet in a box." Too bad it's doscontinued and going for $300+ currently!
I'm struggling to work out which pedal is best because your playing is so inventive that you wring the best out of them. But I think I like the Meris pedals best because the stereo effects are impressive but very musical. The Empress Echosystem is very nice as well. Some of the stereo effects can be a bit too "ping pong" if you know what I mean and can get wearing on the ears quite quickly. The Boss Slicer - what a blast from the past. Didn't expect to see that in this video!
Awww, man! Thanks. Very kind of you. I agree with you on the Meris pedals. Their stereo field is extremely musical, and the same goes for the Echosystem. And I totally know what you mean with how some stereo effects can be too ping-pongy and give you ear fatigue really quickly. The slicer can easily be fatiguing if you use its random or ping-pong mode too heavily, but it's such a fun pedal to play ☺
ROOMS is great, man. I love that slight gliding ping-pongy delay offset between the two channels. Makes for a really lively stereo reverb. And yeah, we can only keep our fingers crossed regarding DBA's next release. A stereo delay would definitely be epic
I love the Eventide stuff. A Space ran in stereo is hard to beat. I've pretty much been using the Space paired with a Dreadbox Hypnosis for almost all my recording these days.
Wow... This was phenomenal. You know exactly what to play to get the best out of each pedal. Just wonderful as always. The ROOMS was a revelation to me, but the Slicer... Magnificent. My favourites that I own are the Empress Echosystem and Reverb. I love your demos Stefan.
Doug! Thank you so much. Your kindness always brightens my day. And I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the stereo goodness of your Empress gear as well. They definitely know how to make something special
Fine video, as always. :) These are mostly all pedals that are doing SOMETHING in stereo, but if you just want what you're playing to magically become stereo, then the Mimiq is the finest double-tracking thing EVER. Keeley's fine. I have their Compressor and Limiter, but for disturbingly good stereo-ization, there is no competition to the Mimiq.
Love the vid and love that you are embracing yourself. The little sneak peeks you've been giving us proves just how cool you look! The new do looks great!!!
Awww, man! Thank you. Very kind of you. It took a while to get there, but I'm happy I did it. It only took a pandemic for me to finally shave my hair off 😂😊🙏
There's a lot to love when it comes to Meris. The sound quality they deliver is just next level. Mercury7 is still the best reverb pedal I've ever owned.
I always enjoy your combination of enthusiasm and musicality. The way you use your pedals to augment your sound inspires me. I love my Hedra. Everything from Meris, really. I have a few other suggestions for you: more stuff from Source Audio - all of their neuro stuff is super; I'm starting to get into Alexander pedals, I'm hooked on the Syntax Error in particular; and the Hologram Electronics Microcosm - just got mine and it will take me another year to really master it, blows my mind every day.
Good stuff man! I love that Polymoon. So many sounds! Meris is killing it right now! My current fav stereo pedal that I own is the Strymon Volante. Long time fan of the Bigsky too.
Thank you very much! Yeah, I just got that Harley Benton JA-60. I'm honestly absolutely stunned by how good it is. Incredible bang for the buck, I must say. It has an almost piano-like attack, which I really like, and it's a joy to play. I didn't even have to do a setup on it. Just played wonderfully straight out of the box.
Also wanted to comment on the Harley Benton guitar. It looks and sound great in this video! Awesome content as always @ThePedalZone. Your stuff is a blast to watch.
That last slicer effect was awesome. Ive been hung up on stereo tremolo because of the hard panning effect and this slicer takes that even further, if you close your eyes and imagine the sound going around you in circles (not just back and forth) you can actually hear a bit of tone shifting allowing you to FEEL like the signal is truly surround sound and going in a circle AROUND you. Its awesome
ThePedalZone clink clink! Haha. Also, I really like the Rooms pedal. It does realistic and extreme spatial sounds in a very convincing way. It can sound both like a real physical space and also a surreal otherworldly realm, that still reacts as if it was a physical space. My rig is centered around an HX Stomp but I rarely run stereo. In fact I’m a big obsessed with start-to-finish mono recordings. So many users are listening on what amounts to mono equipment, Bluetooth speakers, cell phones and tablets that aren’t nearly wide enough to reproduce a stereo image. A lot of time and effort in recording is about stereo fields and balancing elements of the recording on pristine monitors with optimal acoustic spaces, but a lot of listeners closest use cases are in like a vehicle. Or maybe I’m just nostalgic for 8tracks from my dads old truck with a CB radio and no floor... There definitely is magic in mono, that’s what I’m getting at.
Oh, I totally agree. Like I said in the intro I’m not fanatic about gear needing to be stereo, since I play in mono 90% of the time. So I’m all for the magic of mono. But some pedals just turning into something else when used in stereo. Like the Meris pedals for instance. It’s just a totally different experience than the mono equivalent, and I applaud gear that really shows that thought, care and time was put into how the stereo image should play out 😊👍
I never tried stereo before, mainly because I have only one amp, buy man that sounds gorgeous ! I'll truly consider it later 😉 And it's also good to see you back !
And here I was, thinking there weren't many stereo pedals. How can the Polymoon be so versatile??? There's so many sounds that can come out of it, it may be my favorite stereo pedal too. The Dunable Splatterblaster is probably my other favorite, it's a stereo distortion/fuzz pedal that really makes both channels sound incredibly different, I can't imagine how it would sound with one of the pedals in here going after it!
Polymoon is seriously just a masterpiece. It’s something that will never leave my possession. As you say, it’s just stupid versatile, and sounds amazing both as a delay, modulation pedal, reverb and total tonal soundscape monster 👌 The Dunable Splatterblaster looks seriously cool. I’ve been having my eye on one for a long time now. Hope I get the chance to try one in the near future. The world definitely needs more stereo dirt devices 😊🤘
Great video, man. I know it's about the stereo pedals, but I am thrilled to see the OBNE Expression Slider getting some love. It is one of my favorite toys. Also, you're not wrong, sir. The Polymoon is dope.
I seen the title of the video and seen that it only came out 7 hours ago and all I did was scream YESSSSSSSSSSSS! I used to have a stereo effect on my old transfex 212 and I really really miss it
Hey I'm looking for a portable (battery powered option) stereo delay pedal to use portably with a digital piano to make it sound like an acoustic piano being played outside. Any suggestions?
If it needs to be battery powered, then you can't go wrong with Boss. Their DD-8 is great. You could also look into getting a rechargeable PSU, so you can power any pedal you like on the go.
Sounds great! I've been building up my stereo board over the past 6 months and I look to your channel frequently for tips - I was very excited to see this video. I have the empress echosystem and it's beautiful stereo pedal - not sure if you saw but it has a stereo width setting that you can max out and it sounds amazing. Also, if you haven't tried the Microcosm, you'll have to add it to this list - the stereo spread on it's effects are jaw dropping and I actually had a moment where I thought "ThePedalZone guy would love this thing.
Man! I didn't know about that stereo width setting on the Echosystem, I have to mess around with that. I already feel like it sounds amazing in stereo, but I'm always up for more stereo goodness. Happy you liked the video 😊🙏
Yes, you can use it with whatever instrument you want. I have a full demo of Horizont on my channel. Mainly features guitar examples. You’re welcome to check it out
Love it man.. Super Awesome.. Just a curious question.. For your Harley Benton JA-60, did you do any modifications to it? It's such a beautiful guitar and I'm also contemplating on getting one =)
Thanks, man! Really happy you liked the video. No, haven't done any mods to the JA-60. Got it a couple of days ago. So what you're hearing is how it sounds straight out of the box. Really great bang for the buck guitar.
Mykhailo Skachkov - I could have made the entire episode about Meris pedals. They make spectacular stereo devices and Mercury7 is 100% one of them. But yeah, wanted to show some diversity 😊
@ThePedalZone do you sell your music? If so under what name & where? I have severe chronic facial pain and ambient music is a huge way I cope. I can only make my own so fast (I also do Metal stuff on the side) so I’m always searching for more. I’ll definitely buy yours. Thanks P.S. I love your unaffected clean tone!
Nice ones!!! I could easily have added the Mercury7 to the list as well, but didn’t want to make it an all Meris show 😂 But they definitely know how to make stellar stereo pedals 👌
I've been creeping your pedal review vids for the last couple of years (along with many others), just ran across this...by far my favorite review...these sound so good. You could put a board together featuring all these pedals and it would absolutely crush (and this is keeping in mind the updated offerings in 2022).
Mexican blackface tele's, FSR teles (from GC) and schecter PT specials all have reverse switchplates that put the volume knob right there when you need your foot for something other than volume swells. all these pedals are nice. don't do this to me lol.
I was just thinking of what benefits I get from a stereo rig. Here is your video! -I rig a Peavey Classic Stereo 50/50. Probably made for keyboards but I've rigged it with a stereo mixer in front. I only exploit stereo at the delay reverb end of the board. A Volante and a Silverlake work for me but now I want to blend them stereo instead of one into the other. But I want dramatics, the Volante gives me some - I have a Zero-Point on the left channel for drama. I'm sure I need to mix the reverb and delay instead of chain. But these pedals really show off with the stereo! Makes me think! You make great videos bro, keep it up!
Rooms is a great pedal. I think another great one for stereo is the Empress Zoia, since you can make an almost infinite amount of variation between channels however you'd like, with whatever effects you choose. The new UA pedals are also all stereo in & out (Astra, Starlight, and Golden) so they might excel in a stereo chain.
I have a version of that slicer in my MD-500, it's both of my little girls favorite mode to mess with. They can't play anything, but that slicer makes it sound like they are! lol
Wow the Korg demo wow so many movies came into mind and a dash of scenes from sci fi dust.and carpenter brut I love what you do thank you Tim from London ontario
Are there any pedals of which you own more than one unit? I've got three pedals that are no longer in production and I always feel like I need a backup for them, just in case, you know?
