Hi Jen. You are incredible. Simple things (with the exception of travel) to boost our moods. I love candles, lots of daylight streaming in the window, going outside feeding the squirrels, birds, bunnies, and deer. Filling the birdbath. I'm lucky to have a big picture window where I can see nature at its finest. Reading a great book, doing a daily workout (walking, weights, etc), and above all, cuddling my 3 kitties. So calming. Having pets reduces stress, increases serotonin and endorphins. Last but not least, everyday, I treat myself to two squares of dark chocolate. Heart healthy, and delicious. ❤❤
Congrats on 70 👏🏽 I’ll be 60 next week and I cannot wait!! I totally enjoyed my 50’s, even with my two years of health issues, but I’m ready to delve into my 60’s. Have a great 60th Bday trip, Jen, when that time comes up 🐉
I wake up every morning, and say a prayer of gratitude. Today, I'm heading out to my weekly morning yoga class. Every day I connect with at least one person, and play in my art studio. At the end of the day, I make a cup of tea, plan my next day, and say a prayer of thanks. Gratitude and humility for all we have is a very powerful affirmation, a good foundation for happiness and contentment. Namaste.🧘♀️
So…fellow social introvert here. The anticipation of social interaction is much worse than the actual interaction (in most cases). If my person is with me, my daughter or granddaughter, I am usually okay. Otherwise, I must wear my sunglasses until I absolutely must take them off to be able to see. I am invisible with my shades on.😀 If you visited me, we would take our tea to the nearby state park and sip it while sitting in one of the swings there. We might rent a paddle boat and paddle our legs to exhaustion around one of the huge lakes in which the fall foliage is mirrored. And if the air is coolish, we’ll spray lavender oil on our wrap that we throw around our shoulders. 💜🍁💜🍂💜🍁💜 (who says virtual visits aren’t self-care?)
Anne of Green Gables has been one of my favorite book series for 40 years now. In fact, I listen to the audio book on RU-vid when I'm falling asleep at night. That book may have been the reason I fell in love with a red haired woman and we had a baby girl, also with red hair, now 33.
Hi Jen! I'm a single introvert of 65. I find your channel refreshing and the topics you discuss relatable. I usually start my morning with meditative music, a podcast, and exercise. I also forest bathe in my near-by park. Nature can be very therapeutic. I love doing practically any word puzzle: Crosswords, Text Twist, and Bookworm are my favorites. You brought up so many good suggestions!
Yes! Megan Follows is the only Anne Shirley for me too! I visited Prince Edward Island because I loved the story so much. I also read all the books. So much wisdom to be found.
Hello friend, I, too, am an introvert but i am retired so it doesn't matter. I liked all of your ideas and already implement some of them . The Wonder Woman pose is great. Take care of you and thank you for brightening my day❤
Hi Jenn... I know it seems mundane, but I count my blessings. It only takes a minute and instantly makes me feel better. If you do it while standing in sunshine it makes it even better. Thank you for your videos.. There always seems to be something that I can adopt or think on.
My big feel-good scent is cinnamon. I remember it from my Ohio winters at Christmas time especially. It just made me feel so cozy and relaxed as i watched snow flurries outside my window. 😊
Another great video, Thanks! I take my 2 little dogs to my neighborhood park everyday for a walk. I tell myself I do it for them but I think it help me too. I am also an introvert with social anxiety so any outing is a success in my book. The positive self talk is a really good tip as it can make a huge difference in mood. I drink my morning coffee in my favorite cup and I have been changing my window treatments to bring in more light. I would love to sit out on my patio with my coffee but unfortunately I am a mosquito magnet! Might have to invest in a screened porch. Thanks again for the great tips.
You mentioned doing a daily puzzle for a shot of dopamine. NOW I understand why quilting (piecing quilt blocks) makes me feel so positive! My daily boost is starting the day with a simple morning QiGong routine - outdoors. Even 5 minutes helps.
Wasn't it the Pringle girl that was such a snob? Yes, I too loved watching / reading Anne of Green Gables. Walking outside and naps are so luxe...the seasons are changing. Have a great day! 🌱
Lovely video, Jenn! I too work from home and have a candle on my desk I light when I begin working. The coziness of the scent and the flame help keep me focused at my desk 😊 Other little self-care practices for me are meditating and walking in the woods (my favorite). I am all about that Japanese forest bathing 😌
ALWSYS LOVE these videos! To relax I drink hot tea, and read great books. Not opposed to afternoon naps toooo! But the rest of my day I’m usually on my feet doing meal prep, cleaning, organizing, gardening etc etc. Not a TV watcher normally. Also to relax I get out with friends weekly and sometimes we do lunch and an afternoon movie matinee! It has become our new thing! I always feel happy I’m in the theatre watching an afternoon movie and not working !!
Oh I love Anne of Green Gables! I remember watching that as a little girl on PBS. New subscriber here, came for the wisdom as I'm turning 50 soon, and also enjoying the content creator videos. I'm just starting mine.
Bonus! Bonus! I love corny. And you are adorable. Always good reminders; thank you. I always say thank you when my feet hit the floor in the morning and last thing at night as I close my eyes. Specifically, "thank you God for the ever increasing health and abundance in my life and the lives of my loved ones."
Any extra charge for the bonuses? I didn’t realize you can freeze lemons. That’s one hack I will use for sure!!! 😊😊😊. You have such a great sense of humor 😂
Thank you Jenn. You reminded me of all the wonderful things that can enrich my life. I love your channel, and am always happy to see you have posted something. ❤
I love these great ideas! Thank you. I make my bed, it's so nice to climb into a made bed with it's fresh bedding, makes me feel taken care of. I also (through my google display gadget, located in my kitchen) play birds in the forest sounds, or jazz cafe ambience, through the day.
Ah...lavender...i use the oils in my hot epsom baths! This list is awesome!!! Im going to write it out and hang it where I'll see it. Thanks, Jen, for the nice gift today!❤👍😎🇨🇦
Thanks for the nice suggestions for self-care! I find walking in nature or indoor RU-vid walks like Leslie Sansone Walk at Home and Gina B from the channel Up to the Beat Fit dance walks great for self-care! Diane in Denmark on her RU-vid channel mentioned in a video called 3 ways I organize our danish home about hygge baskets the idea of having a basket for self-care items and/or snacks! Also Mariane Cresp mentioned in her boost your mood video about creativity and listening to music. I also watched Kennedy from the channel Cozy K, cozy hobbies to try videos. I also thinking baking is a good idea for self-care, I have been watching Bex Keys outseekingrainbows baking videos on her channel. So that is giving motivation for trying new recipes!
I visit the cinema, chat in the pub with friends but no alcohol, sniff my favourite Yankee candle ( Easter eggs), walk to my local garden centre which is in a country lane. By the way, you're four years younger than me so you might be on the cusp of boomer as well as gen x( that'll be why you're full of common sense 😜). Keep on doing what you do, it's great!
Thank you for the self care tips! I Love Anne of Green Gables too! My daughters and I had a tradition of watching it every year on New Year’s Eve. We watched it along with the sequel. It helped us to stay awake until midnight. 🥳 I also love the idea of The Wonder Women pose ~ I am definitely going to do that. ~ Have a great week!
Thank you Jen for another great video! I love Megan Follows in Anne of Green Gables and lighting a candle to boost my mood. In fact, I did it as soon as you mentioned it! I would also add taking the time to conquer a hard task that may have been put off for a while, is a great boost to one's mental health.
Watching your videos, Jen, on Wednesdays IS one of my self-care habits🙂The other ones are: in the morning I feel grateful for EVERYTHING life provides me with (the same when I go to sleep). Some exercises in the morning for about 30-40 min, a cup of good quality coffee, during the day-2 cups of good quality green tea with lemon, keto diet and cooking, listening to WISE people and classical music, walking in the park, reading non-fiction, watching a candle light when I am down. I would love to teach myself how to take a nap in the afternoon and use NATURALLY scented candles-THX for these ideas.. Would appreciate some advice.
Megan Follows in AOGG is the best!!! Dream of visiting Prince Edward Island! I also walk in nature every day. Getting up early, making coffee and reading my Bible and devotionals gets the day off right. I read seasonally, so spooky mysteries are on the menu right now. "Her Little Flowers" is a good gothic mystery! The "Wishcraft Mystery" series by Heather Blake is super cute. The witch's grant wishes. Great characters. Fun autumn reading.😊
Say good morning to Jesus. Read a scripture. Make the bed. That morning cup of coffee is always the best. Relax in the afternoon, have a 4 o'clock coffee, play ambient music and scenery on the wide screen, write in my journal and have a good conversation with myself. The 4 o'clock coffee is a thing I always did with Mom. She always said "it's tea time in England" but we preferred coffee. I love talking to myself. I always understand what I'm saying and never disagree. It's a trait passed down for four generations. Lastly, I have a glass of ice water in my favorite glass. I even have special ice cubes for Halloween. LOL PS I love your list. Youre more energetic than I am. .
Thanks for sharing your ideas. I do so of these but not all in one day. Something I do is to listen to calming music or more upbeat music depending on what mood I’m in or want to be in
I love that idea of one positive thought in the morning. I need to do this! I also do Connections and Wordl every morning. Get my brain working. ah.. AND I didn't know about the dopamine. :>) Great video! I started my BIG trip a year with my 70th birthday. Then this year I toured he UK and next fall I will be in France. I love the planning, the expectations, the trip and the after trip. Lots of months of happiness.
I traveled to Kentucky in June to visit my ancestors graves. So beautiful down there. They are also celebrating 250 years in Harrodsburg. Daniel Boone and James Harrod discovered the area. I’ve got the parade on my yt channel. I think I want to go back.
Hi Jen. I'd really like to know some details about the epic trip you are planning for your 60th. Myself, I will be 65 next summer and need some inspiration!
Hi!! I stumbled upon your video one day a couple months ago when I was a little down. Watching you was an inspiration and I decided to start my own vlog. My vlog is in its infancy and I hardly have any views, so please stop by and let me know if you have any words of encouragement. 😊❤. Love your videos!!
I have no habits 🫣😄 It was fun listening to you from faraway Bulgaria 😙 I’m ten years younger than you and I hope that at the threshold of my 60s I’ll be as fresh as you!
!!I recently sold some of my long-term position and currently sitting on about 250k, do you think Nvidia is a good buy right now or I have I missed out on a crucial buy period, any good stock recommendation on great performing stocks will be appreciated
As a beginner investor, it’s essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Kristine Lynn Weber is my trade analyst, she has guided me to identify key market trends, pinpointed strategic entry points, and provided risk assessments, ensuring my trades decisions align with market dynamics for optimal returns.
I managed to grow a nest egg of around 120k to over a Million. I'm especially grateful to Adviser Kristine Lynn Weber, for her expertise and exposure to different areas of the market.
I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $100k passively by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Inflation or no inflation, my finances remain secure. So I really don't blame people who panic.
Without a doubt! Kristine Lynn Weber is a trader who goes above and beyond. she has an exceptional skill for analyzing market movements and spotting profitable opportunities. Her strategies are meticulously crafted based on thorough research and years of practical experience.
Hey Jen - I am a Canadian RU-vidr that started my channel four weeks ago… like yours it literally exploded and now I’m totally freaked out. I was hoping there was a way to reach out so I can ask some questions from the Canadian perspective.. some of them. I don’t really want to ask on a public forum. Can I DM you on your Instagram? I’m not sure if you look at that or not.
Another tip for self care: Make your home, your office, your room beautiful. It doesn’t take a lot of money. The main thing is to make sure everything is clean and orderly, and that you have some pretty spaces that you designed with decor you love, and situated it in an aesthetically pleasing way. Our homes should never be neglected. Space affects mood profoundly. Flowers, candles, etc, are a part of that. If you have a little extra money, you can go pretty gorgeous with this, and it is life-changing.
There are more and more people identifying as introverts these days. I think that;s becasue it is more natural for all people. We were not designed nor have we evolved to be this acutely social- whether it be online or in person. Humans were meant for simple, meaningful living. Prosperous and fulfilling, but simple. We should have family and a few close friends for comfort, but the human mind and soul needs time and space to relax, think, create, and center themselves. What has happened over the last 100 years in western culture is an abomination to our deepest nature, and our base needs for happiness and peace. Furthermore, what’s happened since the advent of the hyped up, non-stop, digital takeover of everyone’s social life is so dark and at complete odds with healthy living.
Hi there, I've been enjoying your content inspired by you success. I did just want to mention something about the wonder woman pose. If it is working for you then great, go for it, but it is my understanding that Cuddy's theory of power poses has come under a great deal of criticism and apparently there is no scientific evidence to prove it. I don't know the details of all of this, and maybe I'm not up to date,, but all I know is that for a while a couple of months ago I stumbled across negative discussions about the power poses theory. I couldn't agree more about the importance of making ourselves a priority. Thanks again.
On my daily walk (less natural and more urban, but not too noisy), I make at least one quick sketch of something I see. This is not about "making art" but about taking a few minutes to observe something closely. While I'm drawing, I shut off everything else in my mind because drawing takes that kind of focus. I spend no more than 5 or 10 minutes per sketch (a tree, a car, a leaf), but it's like a mini meditation. Yes, I do it even in the rain (I live in Seattle)... I have a waterproof sketchbook. No excuses. 😉
Great ideas! I like to put a few stitches in the needlepoint canvas I’m currently working on. I also thank the Lord at bedtime for the day and in the morning for keeping me safe throughout the night. Thank you for the garden scenery, your Foxglove look so happy!! 😊😊
This one I can do year round indoors it takes care of my physical, mental, looking forward attitude, light therapy, and my love of gardening…indoor hydroponics (Aero garden) or some knock off, Rise or Gardyns. I can do vegetable’s, fruits, plants or flowers. Plus it’s fun to grow things that will also take care of me!
Even if I don't have time to paint, I go into my studio area and do something to prepare for my next painting: cut down full sheets of watercolor paper, tape a piece of paper to a board, check which paints need refreshing, etc. More often than not I actually end up doing a quick painting sketch.
Self care habit - I bring fresh flowers into the house. In season I cut them from my garden and in winter I pick greenery from the garden and enhance with grocery store flowers.
I love, love love Anne of Green Gables too! Agree with all of your tips, (except for trip planning 😅) love that they are free and fast. I do 5 to 10 minutes of stretches in the morning and I find it helps get my brain get settled and focused, and helps with aches and pains 😂. Thanks for fun video 😊
