Today’s video is 8 reason why I’m becoming a minimalist and I think you should too. This journey of slow living, simple living, and minimalism has brought a lot of change to my life. In this video, I Wanted to talk about some of the reasons that a minimalist lifestyle has been so appealing to me and how it’s impacted and changed me. Minimalist habits have brought so much peace and simplicity, and slow living is something that’s radically reoriented my day to day. I’m so honoured to be able to share these little moments of life with you, and I hope you enjoy the video! Can’t wait to keep sharing more of my minimalism journey and how I’m becoming a minimalist.

Not me realizing that while I had 8 reasons in my notes, I only filmed 7 aha - here’s #8: intentionality in my personal growth and formation. I believe deeply that our habits are the core pieces of our lives. They make up the majority of our time and behaviours. While I would never have drawn a direct correlation between my stuff and my habits, having too much kept me distracted from the things that I care most about. My time and attention have often been directed at things that truly aren’t that important. Minimalism isn’t a cure for this - intentional living is, in many ways, a lifelong journey of course adjustment. But it’s created SO much free space in my mind, and for that, I’m grateful.

Many reasons, but everything costing so much is one of the reasons. Plus I realized in the last few years having a lot of material things doesn't make me happy.

Everything you buy or have requires care and upkeep. Less “things” is less time and worry

Everything you said is true. Less is more. Time is our best asset. Not trying to keep up with everyone. Everything cost a lot. That means you have to work more and less time with family and for yourself. I’ve been burned out with my career. Thinking about downsizing and we would be able to have a home paid for. Then I could do what I choose as a career. I believe everything would start to get better like a domino effect. I always go back to how I grew up. Didn’t have a lot but we was happy. Thanks for your videos, much needed.

From the moment your home is paid for is when you will have the most freedom in your life. Make that your top priority 👍

i started minimalism when i was 24...now i am 30..and it became my lifestyle and i am still learning. the habits and the mindset die hard.
@anikajgreen

They really do die hard! It’s been so interesting seeing how even when I *know* certain habits are actively working against the life I want, I still feel the instinctual tug towards them sometimes.

You are so smart to start at a younger age! I am 55. We downsized 2 years ago and are now selling our dream home to buy a small farmhouse. Even though we got rid of so much before, this time will force us to keep only the bare basics. Yikes! I am so grateful for your ideas and thoughts! Thank you!

I have been working on minimizing my stuff for a few years. Now that the boys are out of the house, it's much easier to do so. I still have more to do, but it's getting there. I like to see the empty spaces. I'm in northeastern Ontario, and it was a chilly walk with the dog this morning. Winter coat and mitts time again.

People are becoming minimal because we are too poor to live any other way, lol. But seriously, many people want a more intentional and simple lifestyle. Great tips. I've been minimal for 6 years now.

I discovered you two days ago and I've been loving your content. I'm working towards minimalism and slow living, but my boyfriend is a big hoarder and it can get a bit overwhelming for, but he gets so nervous about throwing things away, and I get it, I won't force him, but do you have any advice for couples to balance things out? ❤

The minimalists talk in detail about this in their podcast, in many episodes. You may find insight there.😊

Thank you so much for your comment! Love that you’re working towards a simpler life ❤ I actually asked my husband for his opinion on this - figured he might be able to speak to it & he said what’s been most helpful and effective for him has been kind of “testing” things. He gave the example of Project 333, which he’s been doing for the last few months, and said it’s been helpful to be able to kind of try minimalism without committing right off the bat to getting rid of things. This might be a good way to kind of meet in the middle and see how the process goes! It’s definitely a little tricky to feel this out, and I am pretty new to this process as well so I’ll come back to this comment if I think of anything else!! Also, I second the first reply - The Minimalists are great! I haven’t listened to a ton of their podcast but the episodes I have listened to have been fantastic!

A lot of people are basically FORCED into "minimalism" by financial circumstances more than life choice, so when they get a little money, they want ALL THE THINGS, too. I mean, also when people have stuff and a house that can fill stuff and have to move into a smaller house or apartment, they often have to lose things that maybe even cost money and didn't get used much, so that's more Ouch! then Hooray!, etc. I like having more options than just two pairs of shoes and such because I didn't have more than three pairs of jeans in my closet as a teenager and now I don't even like wearing jeans most of the time, etc.

Much clutter is not the same thing as some decoration. I mean, I know a lot of people who feel obligated to keep things because they were gifts or inherited. That's the kind of stuff I have LESS emotional attachment to than some thing I actively shopped for and then bought in triplicate because I wanted one in each color or whatever. Again, knick-knacks aren't the same thing as pants or shoes, either, but some people take minimalism to the extreme that they will only wear black pants and white shirts all year round.
@Highland_Paddy
@Highland_Paddy 2 месяца назад
Yes, "gap fillers" make up a lot of people's wardrobes if they are doing more mundane or labor jobs because there's no point in wearing nicer clothes for these chores. I tend to keep stuff like that around in case I might need them more than I actually do because I know I won't get my money's worth if I sell them off or donate them. If they don't fit, then they are clutter and want to sell.
@Highland_Paddy

I'm not sure how much it's REALLY saving the planet if you don't buy the things that are still being produced anyway, but I don't see much point in buying Fast Fashion garments that won't last very long even if they aren't very expensive.

You can shop second hand a lot easier when you're young or petit because people GROW OUT of clothes. I tell everyone over and over how I've rarely found any used pants that ever fit me in years of thrift shopping.
@clairedebbs9972
@clairedebbs9972 2 месяца назад
I am kind of the same here, because I have short legs, bit am not petite at all (anymore). This is why I buy jeans and shorts new, but tops, jumpers, cardigans, coats and dresses from thrift shops. It helps reduce cost wherever possible and sensible.

It is important to recognize that this is only one person's point of view, and I don't like the evangelistic tone - "I think that you should do it too" was said at least twice. I watched this video out of curiousity and a wish to learn more about other points of view than my own ( I am a maximalist - minimalism bores me to tears). Fine to have your own opinion; fine to share it with others; not fine to tell others what to do.

You sound VERY DEFENSIVE to me. Don't like Minimalism, don't be one. I personally don't understand the need and greed of Maximalism but to each his own.

@@melaniegodwin8791 I agree! I don't understand why someone would watch a video topic that "bores" them to tears?
