I brought a traditional 8 string ukulele back from Tahiti last month. Quite a different beast, as it would probably be called a semi acoustic and not like the usual ukulele in that it doesn't look like a mini guitar. Solid body with a sound chamber built into the center. Sound hole is on the back. Amazing sound.

I have both a 4-string and 5-string ukulele. The 5-string takes about 15 seconds longer to tune with an electronic tuner. I'm guessing that the 8-string ukulele only takes a couple of minutes if it is already close.

Could be because hotel California was performed on a 12 string guitar so, just like the 8 string ukulele, there are 2 of each note which has a pretty recognisable sound!

how many instruments do you play?! how did you get so good at all of them. My father was, and many of my friends are really grifted musicians; I was taught to play the guitar around 5 times by various people in various ways and I still can't even play a simple tune on it (or any other instrument). You have nothing but respect and admiration from me.

I have a Kanile'a uke with a pin bridge. Can't help but wonder if pins for an 8 string uke might be less of a hassle when restringing. Great sound on your your playing.

pretty much. but the bottom two courses are unison.

So, is it G4-G3 C4-C3 E4-E4 A4-A4 or is the second course from the top actually C4-C5 (since only 7th string is wound, which I would guess C3 would be were it used)?

@@carpingnyland8518 It's probably like my 8-string: G (octaves, with one wound), C (octaves), E (unison), A (unison). Not sure of octave numbers, but that's a great way to denote them.

How can I master fingerpicking between each string? Is there a book? Lessons? Tips? Videos? I have an 8 string that I'm very proud of but I don't know how to truly play it the way it was meant to be. The way that makes it distinguished. Please Help Me.

You pick it much like a regular ukulele. Strumming incorporates both string but when you pluck you generally will hit the one string.

He's definitely using a pick until about 1:59, but then puts it in his mouth to fingerpick. You might email him directly from his website, or RU-vid site to get an answer. It looks yellow though...
