After 10+ years on FCPX, DaVinci is nothing but a over-complicated MIGRAINE to me. And I have edited EVERYTHING from award winning feature length films and documentaries to commercial work all in FCPX.
It’s a fantastic tool. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I’m two weeks ahead on YT videos and got several client ones done this week and I have a strong hunch it is because all of it was FCP this week
L and J cuts are super easy in Resolve, just hold alt while you adjust the video or the video of the clips. For green screens on the edit page, the 3D keyer is super fast and works with not evenly lit green screens as well. btw capcut is just a rip off of FCP so I'm not surprised it has similar layout and tools lol.
In Resolve, you can switch to a different angle without making a new cut by option or alt clicking on the angle thumbnail in the viewer. When chopping down a multicam clip, I just do it within the single viewer, then go back through and choose angles. I guess this is more time consuming, but I often edit the talking head portion without even looking at the video as I find it distracting
did not know about the option click. will try that. still cumbersome becasue you don't even need the thumbnail viewer to switch angles in final cut once you have it set up and are editing
the most important word there being FUN. No other NLE allows you to have FUN like final cut in the same way. So cool to hear of someone who has been editing for 45 years.
02:46 you can change using short cut - its called Next Angle / Previous Angle 03:11 again, resolve can do the same thing. In Multicam Viewer there are options to use only video, only audio and both
My favorite is the one button audio crossfades for an entire project. So nice to cut my a roll and then hit a key command to have all of my audio perfectly crossfaded. It honestly keeps my from doing a jcut at every single cut point- I can be intentional with them.
I have to disagree with you! I literally just switched from FCPX to Davinci this week and I am IN LOVE with everything! I learned most of my editing skills on FCPX but Davinci is just faster, designed better, offers more assets/effects/transitions...and of course just 2 words...COLOR GRADING!
The cut page in davinci Resolve is actually surprisingly useful. People always skip it and go straight to edit..... But I can't think of any faster way to assemble a rough cut and get ideas going. The dual timelines is brilliant. Letting you see everything quickly.
Resolve has a lot to learn from FCP when it comes to Multicam editing. If you start working with files that have multiple audio tracks (polywaves from professional recorders like MixPre), the situation gets super messy- it doesn’t know what to do. Also it sometimes fails to sync *identical* audio that FCP can sync in seconds (because it’s identical- duh!). I would switch to DaVinci in an instant because of Color grading and audio mixing (FCP sucks in that department) but syncing audio and MC editing is such a basic thing that I don’t want to think about. Great video man!
Couldn't agree more with this. I have lately been doing my edit in Final Cut. Then sending it to Resolve for color and mixing. Because you can export each audio role separately it was awesome to get full DAW control at the end and then also be able to color the footage. Worked GREAT!
As someone who has used FC for 15 years, and Resolve for the last 7, my biggest plus to Final Cut is the media management/library system. I never lost a project in Final Cut and it's just easier to store the library files on an external drive to go from one machine to the next. Cheers.
Don't know what the feature is called, but in Resolve 19, you xan have the playhead be stationary (centered), while the timeline clips move, during playback.
I have premier pro,Final Cut , cap cut and resolve and final cut is better for work flow… and as far as transitions . efrcts and all that stuff I have more for Final Cut than the other … and CapCut is deff slept on
Good points, buddy! Don’t forget speedramping. Shift + B to set the two points and drag the clip to adjust the speed. Drag the grey handles to adjust the ease in/out area. No other software can beat this.
Solid points brother! Although you can shortcut change angle view in davinci multicam but you might need to create a custom shortcut I forget how I set it up.
Yes! the green screen effect in FCP is so easy and powerful for most things - and now nearly no rendering required! Not the best for frizzy hair but drag, drop - autodetect blue or green - move on! Love it. Also, Addmotion is fantastic. As a purely editing app, FCP is hard to beat. Also, careful of Capcut - they are known to syphon data even when you are not using the app. So it's not really "Free" Great comparison video Jake!
That's the worst microphone setup I ever seen. All those idiots holding the lav are nothing to what you done! Love it, well done! :D Ah yeah, and the video is great!
Vegas has this? that is awesome. Gives me hope that maybe DaVinci will get their heads out of their butt and add it as a toggle feature. it totally can be both in editing software. doesn't have to "be there" or "not be there" imo
That’s what I’ve been doing? It makes a cut. But it won’t switch it even after a cut is made. I think you have to make another hot key is what people are telling me.
It only works with Blackmagic camera video the "right" way. I guess it has something to do with meta data. But there's a workaround for other cameras, it just take a bit of time to set up, and unfortunately has to be done on project level.
Nice video 😊 I'm challenging myself to learn Davinci for a little while now, after over 10 years working on Final Cut profesionnally. But I just cannot find a way to edit in Davinci without this preview skimmer/mouse over 😅 I think this function deserve a video in it's own and every NLE should adopt it ! When editing, I barely press play ever, I just over, and I barely click too 🤷🏽♂️ Final Cut is so fast and fluid, Davinci has a lot of extra useless clicks... 🙄 For example the Viewer 😳 In final cut it just does what you need ! If you are browsing your "bins" it will show you that, if you are in your timeline it will show you that 🤷🏽♂️ Davinci have this weird thing that you need to double click or play with toggles buttons to show what you are doing... 😒
Couldn’t agree more. Made a whole video about it… DaVinci NEEDS this Final Cut feature... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K4g5IzlTRiU.html I keep trying to find solutions where it can feel like this but so far haven’t been able to go 1:1 with it
@@jakefelzien Wow, that was fast 😜 I discovered you with the video "How to make Davinci (almost) like Final Cut" or something. And I really like your channel ever since 😊 Thanks for the good work 🙏✨ EDIT: I went to watch it, posted a comment, and noticed that the latest comment on it was me 2 months ago 😅
I had a really great time working in davinci but there is one huge deal breaker - no proper preview of cutom titles in resolve. Its a pain not to be able to preview them and see only T instead of what the title is.
@@jakefelzien Yhea, doesn't seems like it or I maybe haven't figure out a way how to use it. It's been quite a pain, so still oddly going back add text to FCPX 😅
@@jakefelzien is a bit inconvinient, but the best that I could find so far. Oddly enough it helped me to find a work around. I had before huge problems with FCPX editing 4k footage with effects, now I started render in 422 the whole cut locked and importing it to FCPX to work on titles. Works like charm - 0 playback lag. Happy accident =)
@@jakefelzien I started in Premiere and I like to make my own motion graphics so the integration with After Effects and Premiere is more seamless. I saw a video that Hayden Hilliar-Smith mentioned he did that for client work, Final Cut for personal and Premiere for clients
