I have a pair of pink skunk clowns and they kind of try frogspawn corals as hosts but "He" prefers a different one than "She" They are still in disagreement over 2 years later! Great video!

My neighbours have commented on the light radiating from my kitchen window at night :D - i have just upgraded to a larger tank which means more lights :)

The sad thing is, after owning a reef tank, I think now if I were to see bright blue, purple, or red lights showing from my neighbor's windows, I would probably assume they got a fish tank, and then once I never see it again for at least a few months question what happened to it, when in reality they were probably having a bachelor party lol

I know it sounds stupid... but I've always wanted one and secondly are they territorial, because I would really like to keep some octopuses

@@tanlony7532 Blue ringed octopi have a neurotoxin that stops the brain from sending the signal to breathe. Wikipedia says these octopi carry enough venom to kill 26 adult humans in minutes. The venom is apparently formed with a symbiotic organism that resides in the salivary glands of the animal. On a side note remember to be mindful of palitoxin that came come off some zoeanthids if they're stressed/roughed up and then taken out of the water.

No one dares buy them because the bastards are damn near impossible to keep in the tank. Believe me you may think you have covered every possible point of escape but these guys will out smart you EVERY TIME!

Off topic but I’m setting up a 37.4 gallon reef tank. I have fell in love with the Midas blenny and was wondering if he’d be happy in a tank that small? Also do you think he would be aggressive towards a goby or firefish? Thanks for all the content you put out and helping newbies like me learn lots!

Live aquaria says 30 gallon minimum. Wouldn't expect him to trouble the goby or firefish - they're lovers not fighters 🙂

Yeah, I have a AIO tank with a cheato compartment in the back and I am always worried what my neighbors would think when they see the red light through our kitchen window at night (reverse light schedule). We live in a good neighborhood too.

Hey Alex, very interesting Video as always. Im a seawater noob and wonder why you have so much space above your stonens. Is that swimming space for your fish or because of more water is a more stable tank ? Im just asking because I would like to go for a shallow Reef tank myself. What do you think about these tanks ? (sry for my english, im not a nativ speaker, best greetings from germany ) :)

I have 2 clowns mixed. Skunk cloun and Clark clown and just happened that way not pair it swim together. My choice of clowns Clark clown s very beautiful and hearty

Hey Alex, a quick off topic question if you don't mind. I have a Foxface like yourself however mind seems to have lost it's black spot. Any ideas? I added it at the same time as a Koran Angel. I did unfortunately get ich a while afterwards which I'm almost finished dosing for and the ich has at least left the fish (I'm dosing for 30 days to hopefully break the ich cycle)

My clown nipped at me for the first time today lol. He’s guarding my bubble tip with his life. It’s a baby clown smaller than a inch so it didn’t hurt.

Hi Alex! I hope u r alright!I loved the video as always! I have a problem that I really hope u can help me with Alex!when I have my Fluval m90 reef tank running, my electric bills are so unbelieveably high! My last bill a few weeks ago was £190 over the normal bill & I'm thinking I might have to go tropical which I really, really don't want to do because I absolutely love marine! Is there any advice that u could give me Alex please to bring the bills down a bit at all my friend? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Alex! 😀👍

Hmm. You could reduce the length of time your lights are on, turn your heaters down a degree and dial down your return (if it's DC). But ultimately, this is quite a high electric hobby. You've got 100w of heating and lighting running for a lot of the day and probably 100w of pumps running 24/7. You can buy certain equipment that's more efficient... But that's gonna cost more in the short term! Ask on a forum though - there are probably other people who've found some things that work 🙂

I know from experience how aggressive my (female) clownfish can get (with my hand). I suppose she grew into her name: The Darkness (she's a midnight clown). My male is called: The Ghost (Frostbite Clown). I wonder what movie (based on book on a real event) I got their names from?? :P

It's a Scarrus Quoyi - a supposedly reef safe parrot fish. I say supposedly because I caught it munching my sps!

Maybe I've been lucky but I've not had any big algae blooms. Running for 2 months. Only got a small bit of diatom this week but I've had nitrates around 10 for a month.

Yeah, every tank is different and some are worse than others, although at two months you're not quite out of the woods.

Its worse today unfortunately. I had to take things extra slow coz of budget restrictions 😂 payday next week so I'll be upgrading CUC and hopefully getting first fish and coral. Only got 2 nassarius,2 astrias and 2 hermits just now. Its a nuvo 20g. I've got some nice zoas ordered for Thursday so can't wait!

Had my pair of clownfish over 6 years now black and white the boy orange and white the girl Rosie and Jim they lay eggs every few weeks they have to bubble tip and enemies they did have 3 but managed to get one out and I have to wear rubber gloves to put my hand in the tank for a month now she leaves me alone most of the time lol

Clowns are easy, just buy the clowns and the anemone at the same time and accumulate them in the same bag together. When you let them out they’ll usually stay with the anemone.

Yah I have two normal clownfish and the female I think wants to kill me I can’t even put my fresh water in the tank without her sticking her head out of tank and trying to bite me. If I am cleaning the inside of the tank to scrape the algie off the glass she just devoures my arm. Luckily she is not big yet but when she gets bigger I don’t know what I’m gonna do.

It's a pretty basic life form so doesn't need to much, and there's nothing to out compete it at the start while bacterial populations are building.

My clownfish use to be called bill and ben the flower pot men. Then bill would turn in to Billy, when it turned into a female. After a couple of very bad incidents they have now been named nipper and nasher. I still love them but they are mean.

My first tank had clowns in them and I took them back to my lfs after they killed my sailfin tang, lawnmower blennie and 1 peppermint shrimp. I'll never go back to them again, they are the biggest jerks for me and to be honest, when they grow over 1.5 inch they don't look that cute anymore.
