Nice tips. If you fill your thermos with hot water for ten minutes then fill with coffee, you preheat the thermos giving you longer hot time👍

Love your videos… one tip I would add is to attach flotation to the tool, first aid, and other emergency kits. When you need those, your usually stressed and prone to making a mistake and having a kit go overboard. And if your boat swamps/sinks your have a chance at saving your emergency kits.

A small bolt cutter is a must in every boat. When my cousin hooked me in the leg two weeks ago that bolt cutter allowed me to fish for three more hours before my trip to the ER. Of course the hand sanitizer, a small plastic squeeze bottle of alcohol and some toothache numbing stuff helped as well. The bolt cutters and hand sanitizer are always at hand and not in a tool kit while the alcohol and toothache stuff is in the first aid kit. The toothache medicine numbed my entry point of the hook well. Just sayn'...know whati mean?

I keep a spare hub w bearings, seals and grease already packed in for my bass boat. That way if anything happens just pop it in and your ready to go. That way no grease gun needs kept in boat making a mess on the hot days. This is a must for any long trips or vacations.
@gregm8941

Makes more sense to keep a complete spare hub for your trailer. Ever try to remove a bearing race on the side of the road? I had a wheel come half off and destroyed the lug bolts. Glad I had a complete hub.

Great video! Everyone should be prepared in case something happens. My daddy always taught me to "hope for the best, but expect the worst." Great tips! I used the first aid the last time out. Somehow on the way back my son sliced his finger pulling the drain plug out of the fish box. Boat was bloodier from that than any fish we ever caught. Luckily I had a first aid kit in the boat and the truck so we were good.
@adfdasdfadfadsfareae
@adfdasdfadfadsfareae Год назад
The ammo boxes are neat. I created a similar set-up on my kayak using a Pepsi "Wis-Pak" plastic crate/tray (the kind used for bottled drinks). It fits three standard plastic ammo crates perfectly, and then I just run a bungee cord over the top and through their handles to secure them. Pretty sure I could hit the highway and not worry about them going anywhere.
@MKultrapdx
@MKultrapdx Год назад
For anyone interested in the MTM Ammo crate, be mindful that the ammo boxes themselves taper in at the bottom. They are not symmetrical like the boxes we all know. If using for ammo it seems like it's intended use would be ammo unpackaged and tossed into these.

Don't forget a luggage loo and some plastic bags to line it....i keep TOILET PAPER and boat gear in the bucket already in a bag with a regular 5 gallon pail lid for quick removal before slapping the loo lid on .....my small boys would never make it to shore when we are way out on the water.....even driving I only have to 45 seconds to pull over before OMG SITUATION

Streamlights are great weapon lights. You can leave the light on charge without without taking the light out of action in an emergency. Hear a bump in the night, grab your pistol/rifle and go. Charger comes off automatically.

#2 certainly resonated. Bought my 2009 17’ Sea Lion Trailer last fall and just discovered that I should have redone my bearings right then. 😢 Just ordered my flashlight - the discount code auto-fills after typing in the first few letters. 👍 The tool bag is another excellent suggestion! Ta-day, was a good day! 😅
@Archangel_21
@Archangel_21 8 месяцев назад
That's good practice, unless a previous owner can prove when he had recently changed, just have them replaced as soon as you get the new-to-you boat. I did that because it was obvious that one had failed, but I forgot about the tires. Even though they looked to be in good condition, my eyes couldn't see the dry rot on the inside. So, while trailering said new-to-me boat home, I get a blow out on the highway. While limping off of the highway trying to make it to Walmart, I get blowout #2 on the other side. Had to drop the trailer in a residential neighborhood, make it to Walmart, and four brand new trailer tires later, I was on the road home again. So if a trailer has been in and out of the water, and ESPECIALLY if it's been sitting for a while, figure on bearings and tires.

Kind of feel the bearing idea needs to be expanded on. You’re not changing out a bearing race on the side of the road. Might be lucky to get that race out, but without a race press, you’re not getting that race in correctly and you’re going to find yourself back on the side of the road. Also need a spare grease seal, cotter pin for the castle nut, socket or wrench to seat the bearings, dead blow or rubber mallet to help seat races and seals. Best bet, is to make sure to maintain the bearings. Overall great info!

Hey, real nice list. I believe in being prepared for whatever circumstance may arise so have all that you suggested already and then some. I agree with you about the Olight with the magnetic charger. Had one for years, always clipped to my pants pocket. It worked well and the battery lasted a long time on a charge but I found that when I was grinding metal, the shavings would adhere to the magnet on the base of the flashlight, making the processor do all sorts of funky things and it was a pain in the butt to try to clean metal filings off the magnet. I couldn't throw away an $85 light but when it finally wore out I did not replace it with the same type.

Those electronic lighters are great for cutting braided line or anything that you need to melt and cut at the same time. I use one that's a stick style and just has one arc instead of two like yours. I use it to cut all my fishing line whether it needs to melt or not. The stick style let's you've read precise. I lived that can of rope. I've never seen it but I'm definitely gonna go find some.

I have an entire spare hub, greased bearings and seal already installed, with new nut, washer, cotter pin & cap sealed in a bag. Along with necessary tools, rags, paper towels for old grease, brake clean spray all in an ammo can. Ammo can sits on the tongue of the trailer and gets put in the truck when I hook up the boat. Hey, that can of rope is pretty darn cool!
@scottmeacham1738
@scottmeacham1738 Год назад
I believe we can make a rope dispenser out of pvc pipe and 3 fittings. I'm pretty sure I can get rubber grommets for the threaded top to feed the rope out through it. I sold my boat to buy another kayak and now I have 4. My 12' kayak has a Lot of dry storage so I can carry all my fishin rods and a tackle bag along with a First-aid bag and a rope dispenser. That's a great idea about the lighters. I'm SO glad you used your vacuum sealer on that bearing and race. You can vacuum seal some other stuff too! The lighters, First-aid bag and tool bag can all be vacuum sealed. Just remember that anything vacuum sealed won't float so you might want to attach a pool noodle or something to float it or a lanyard to attach it. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!

If you use those Ryker bags or similar, you may want to soak it oil first, if not they trap moisture & your tools will be rusty & corroded when you need them the most. I now use a plastic ammo can. They seal pretty good (depending on how cheap you go) & keep your tools dry! Not all of your hacks are for me but most all are really cool. Out of all the hacks you have come up with, the ryker bag was only one I can say was just bad. And keep your first aid kit in a small ammo can, dry bag or dry box.

Got a Bubba bottle as a gift. Best thing ever, I must have 8 or 10. The big ones certainly hold more than you think and when on sale, they run about $12. Unlike a glass thermos, it is all metal so you won't break anything. If you want cold beverage, I but the empty bottle in the freezer and then fill it up in the morning with already cold drink. The only way to go! Rope - darn right. Especially if you have one of those kind of significant others - if you know what I'm sayin :) I normally have them on all my cleats with a big carabiner clip. Great for tying off on trees when fishing, no worry about messing around with knots.

When we get hungry I fish out a baggie and a sealed bag from the thermos and we enjoy a “HOT” hot dog and coffee/coke for lunch. I have put the hotdogs in a ziplock but they always seem to leak and flavor the coffee. I don’t mind, but it bothers some.
