1. Words are 7% effective and body language is massively influential. DO be aware of your posture, bodily expressions. Just smile. It is welcoming and lights up the room. 2. DO be confident. Be prepared. Look out to the congregation and be engaged. Memorize lyrics and music. Be prepared what you speak between songs. 3. DO be yourself. Be authentic and real. Find your own style. 4. DO be an example. The congregation reflects what they see on stage. 5. DO be obedient to the scriptures. Lift your hands, clap your hands, shout aloud. 6. DO be engaged, enjoy the congregation, the music, open your eyes and engage. Be present around the crowd in the room. 7. DO be in control. Lead. Que the congregation. Engage with the team as they play instruments. 8. DON'T be the centre of attention. Don't be a distraction with clothes, etc.

I love the tip of knowing your music. Depending on the church, this might not be 100% possible for you. If your church changes up music all the time, it may be impossible to keep everything memorized. We usually have a couple days lead time on what we are playing. In that time period, memorization might not be likely. But I've found a few things that help (coming from primarily a Bass player's perspective) with "knowing your music". 1. Listen to the music over, and over, and over, and over. When I get new music, I put it in a playlist and repeat it over and over while I am busy doing other things. When it comes time to play, it helps to be familiar with what happened in the recording. 2. Learn the Nashville number system (Especially for guitar and bass). The song has pattern that repeats no matter what key. The only difference is where you start on the neck. If you can think in terms of number position from the root, it makes it so much easier to see and anticipate the patterns of the song. 3. Write on your music - I used to be afraid to write "hints" on my music because I worried others would think I was not as good at playing. Then I listed to a video on the Scott's Bass Lessons channel, and he pointed out that he regularly puts "hints" on his music. I regularly attach a post-it note to my music with important notes (like a simple-partial string/fret chart for the key, which rhythm patterns made sense, or which strings sounded best in practice). Then when I am on stage, it allows me to quickly see the post-it at the start of the song and review it, if needed, as we start the song. It sounds crazy, but sometimes you just get in the moment and just forget what you practiced and that post-it note is my way to "bring me back to reality" in such an instance. Not that I always need it, but I'd rather have it because at times I really have needed it and was glad it was there.

All the way from Zimbabwe and years later, this is relevant and helpful. Thank you! Amazing how people thought you can separate worship and God. 'you talk about God a lot?' interesting views but then again, people are entitled to their own opinions. Bless you! I will be sharing with my team some of these points. Every praise is to our God! :-)

I’m apologizing ahead of time...but this is really about how to perform and portray something. I did this same thing for over 20 years and finally while I was serving at a large church it hit me that too many churches are about the performance. Worship is organic. Not manipulative. Not a concert. Not a performance. This whole podcast is about what “tricks” can be used to get people to worship. It also refers to everyone on the stage.... not Jesus. Again I’m sorry for this negative response...but it’s not @bout us. Worship is about Christ and when real... no one even knows anyone else is even around. Just something to think about.

Good Morning. I'm enjoying everything I have heard on here. It was most helpful for me to take to our praise and worship team. But their is one problem that I have and that is your call it a TRICK to improve stage presence. Is their another word you could have used. TRICKS in praise and worship I wouldn't use. Just asking. But I love all the information

Thanks for the feedback Stephanie. Glad you found the content helpful! The title of the video was tips, but I believe during the actual recording process I mixed it up with tricks. Either way, I hope that you and your worship team are helped by the ideas conveyed and please feel free to check out all our other episodes at www.worshipministrytraining.com/podcast God bless!

I am a part of our worship team. I lead the exhortation during worship. So somehow I lead the congregation in worship. But I can not sing. Not even in the right tune. But I always believe that worship is always from the heart. Is it really possible to be a good worship leader without the ability to sing well? Thank you. Your video helped me a lot.
@alexthearmo
@alexthearmo 5 лет назад
Thanks John. To worship God you simply need a heart of praise. But to lead others skillfully in musical worship, you should be able to sing. Thankfully there are other ways to lead people in worship, like helping them see and love God through excellent preaching or in your case exhortation. I hope that makes sense.

Stand erect. Hold Mic with confidence. Sing the song. Beware of Gods presence in you so you can look joyful. It wont hurt to smile as soon as you get on stage in front of the people. This should be first...
