"But that's where I was when the train got there" I wish more people were like that. I hear so many people complaining they missed a train because it wasn't in a good location for photographing, etc. They try for a better spot and miss it altogether. Good or bad location I'll take what I can get and enjoy every second of it. Great job as usual Danny!
benchedthatpiece So, going by your name, do you find interest in graffiti too? It's always interested me, but I perfectly acknowledge that it's vandalism.
That's exactly right. That or "Well its just another Dash 9". I remember well when it was "just another SD40-2", or "B36-7". Nothing stays the same for long, signals, industry, everything about the railroad scene changes faster than we realize! I have many fond memories of watching trains where not even a single piece of roadbed remains today...
Greetings from the neighboring state of Alabama--close to NW Florida. Started watching your rail videos. Like them, and especially the informative narration.
I always appreciate your videos, Danny. Having grown up in Florida, but for my adult life living in the Midwest, I like your rail tours of "old Florida"; takes me back. Please keep up the great work.
Hello Dan When I worked for Conrail back in the late 70s that SD70S were as you mentioned were good work horses. I don't miss knee deep snow. dealing hot boxes etc.Love your channel
Great job as always Danny. I remember that day very well, I believe I was the one Shannon was on the phone with there. Caught that Q213 a bit up the road at Loughman Holdout Thanks for the new upload!
I'm sure I need not tell you, but I will anyway :). You're doing excellent work with these videos! I'm a huge railfan but only recently started 'fanning' on RU-vid, and discovered you. I'm commenting now tho about something other than trains! Start by telling you ..... I'm OLD ... VERY OLD (LOL), and spent more than 30 years in the production end of the Entertainment Industry. which should explain why I'm asking these questions! 1) what part of the broadcast/entertainment industry do/did you work in? 2) What was your fathers name? 3) Was "Rick Nelson" ever a part of your past? . . . . Any answers will be appreciated, and I would completely understand if you would rather not. In todays America you must always think before you share!!! Thanks for your time!
Very cool. Greetings from Nashua New Hampshire. I used to live in the Lowell, MA area about 300 feet from the Old Boston & Maine Line which is now Pan Am/CSX. I miss seeing the trains as I live in the city. Looking forward to seeing more videos. If I could, I would be a railfan in New England.
It's nice to have another video from you! That's crazy about the Tropicana train. Come to think of it, I hadn't seen a solid Tropicana train in a long time, even before I moved from Tampa.
Many thanks for your articulate and very informative north and central Florida videos. I enjoy your material, especially the series on CSX signalling and look forward to future videos. Greetings from Melbourne, Australia.
My wife went to the Univ. of Delaware from 1997-2001 and her 1st year, she was placed in the "Rodney" dorm buildings. Little did she know that there was a busy CSX single track line running about 100 yards from her dorm room. Fortunately, there was a portal pedestrian tunnel to get from the disconnected portion of campus to the main campus area. She hated it...never had she experienced train traffic like that before growing up in a coastal town south of Boston. Me on the other hand couldn't get enough of it (I grew up in Philadelphia less than a mile from the old PRR NE Corridor mainline and had much local service in my river bound neighborhood). The Tropicana juice train rolled through daily and made a racket due to 2 grade crossings less than 1/8 mile from the dorm building. 2AM wake-ups were always fun for her... LOL
Danny Harmon i loved this video! So incredible and interesting. I loved the uplose of engines and all engines were very interesting to me. I love trains.!!Wonderful video!!
great stuff, astounding commentary. really a pleasure to watch. I want to move to Florida to do some rail fanning along central Florida's freight lines. Seems like a great place to retire and kick back. Thanks for all the great video!
Another Great video Danny Loving the way you’ve been doing your videos lately thanks for all the inspiration and knowledge you have given me over the years your in-depth knowledge has been invaluable to me and I fully give you the credit for the amazing amount of knowledge and experience in the field that I have today keep doing what you do Danny. Sincerely W.G. Chesnut Cofounder & Narrator for Country Railfan Productions Happy Train Watching‼️🚂🛤
Really love your videos they make central Florida railfanning a cake walk, I took a family trip to Disney and stayed in Kissimmee drove from there one day last to catch the Tampa Bay Lightning Buffalo Sabres game. Managed to catch 91 in Lakeland, Q442 with a UP duo in Zephyrhills, a local and 91 again in Plant City and a local around Yeoman yard in Tampa, and that wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for your extremely professional and informative video's. Thanks and looking forward to more content in the future
Thanks Danny for the Tropicana train info, I was afraid it wasn't going to run anymore. This video helped me alot. Thank you! Can't wait to see more of you videos.
Thanks Walter. I don't really know how trains were affected by Irma. We had lots of trees and limbs down but that was about it. I'm not sure if there were any washouts after the flooding or not.
I used to live in Wildwood and i would always go to the rail yard and walk around and collect alot of things like lights off of trains or pipes for connectors.
Great video Danny, always interesting and very well produced. It's easy to see that a great deal of effort goes into these, and the quality really shows.
Thank you for telling me what that paints keep was called I like the yellow nose to paint Scheme the ones that were on the old ge's the eye called a three-tone paint scheme yellow gray and blue is so much cooler looking then the yellow and blue on the newer engines cool video man I really love all your welfare videos and how much you are passionate about railfanning I graciously appreciate all the information and little tidbits of weird walkie stuff like signals and different things that most real fans don't talk about thank you for sharing your love of trains in the knowledge that you have peace out man have a great day
Distant Signal I love your videos they're very informative and fun to watch I have a question for you cuz I'm pretty good at voices is that you that narrated then there was one the steam locomotive documentary on 4501 if you're a big steam fan check out my steam locomotive poem on RU-vid it's called AustinGlines steam locomotive poem it's on RU-vid and it shows a video of a locomotive that I drew it's a 4-8-2 mountain class steam locomotive if you love trains I know you appreciate it check it out thank you and have a great day
I used to build the light and number boxes for these locomotives, I think they were for GE and looked a lot like the 702 about midway in the video. I ran a flame cutter and press brake to bend the angles and pack it through to the welders; we shipped several other steel parts as well but I don't remember them all. What model locomotive would these number boxes have been used on? Perhaps the GE GT26 or even several models. Seems like they rolled three a day off the assembly line, or it might have been three per week.
Hate a wide cab? Well, I'm just an amateur when it comes to trains and rail fanning, but I don't know I could ever not like any railroad locomotive. I've loved them all since I saw my first one, from the front porch of my family's rental house in Atlanta, just North of the Emery University Station, about 1955 or so. My parents allowed me to wave at the crews lifted a silver stream-liner about 6:00 pm-ish every weekday evening before I went to bed. Those things were breathing fire and belching black smoke and roaring like nothing I'd ever heard.
So does every other auto rack train in the country...it makes me wonder how the ownership works, I think TTX owns the flatcars, while the railroad owns the rack, but any given train will have a complete mix of railroads on it. I also wonder about intermodal cars, most are owned by TTX for sure, but there's always BNSF, FEC, and CSXT cars mixed in too.
Danny, I caught the tail end of your video of the NE corridor. Sad to report Amtrac owns this rail line and it is closed to all NS freight traffic until after 11:00 PM. Thw best viewing spot is in Perryvill MD. Occasional viewer, Bear
Great video just to let you know next time your either in tavares, Eustis or mount dora, we now have another tourist company. They are called the royal palm experience.
SteamMaster Gaming - hey, thanks for that info! I just checked out their website and Facebook page ... that looks like a class act! Hopefully I'll be able to get over there and take a ride some time. Greetings from the S-line in Belleview.
1:03 he better not have a crank failure... 1:08 spirit of the mulberry! 2:30 thats very smart 4:49 isn’t that the diner/cafe? 6:38 eh its ok plus the overpass echos the diamond and i love that
Where have you been? We had the Railroad Police out looking for you! Welcome back, and don't be such a stranger. Jon, Union Pacific RR, Pacific Coast Line, Santa Barbara Subdivision, Mile post 404.5, Oxnard California.
Danny, Thanks much sir! Your videos are always captivating, informative and entertaining. I would love to see more - but always quality over quantity. I have a lot of video I'd love to submit for your voice over. I sound like a duck with COPD.
Hi Danny,Thanks for another great video! I am a railfan/N scale modeler, who grew up with Southern Pacific and am now into UP. Your videos have given me an appreciation of the Florida-area railroads and the area's history. I have a question for you:In the video regarding the Q-213 autoracks, at the diamond at Auburndale headed to Taft yard, please forgive my ignorance, but it looks as though every single class 1 railroad has an autorack car in their livery, on these trains! What's the story? Are these cars all owned by the railroads and then pooled? Thanks! I am a tremendous fan and subscriber on your channel. Best regards, Mark
I believe Fort Myers is about the closest rail activity to Naples. Seminole Gulf Railway operates there. They connect with CSX at Arcadia about 1.5 hours north of Naples. For driving that far, you'd be better off going over to Ft Lauderdale on I-75. FEC, CSX and Tri Rail there.
I hope you come up to jersey soon, I want you to Railfan the CSX River Line Subdivision and the northeast corridor, there’s always high traffic in northern jersey! If u ever come up here I recommend Ridgefield Park, Bergen County, NJ.. that’s where I live, give it a thought. also we’re 10 min away from NYC
Jackson Slater ElevatorRailAlarmFan busiest place in Florida for CSX would be Callahan. Used to see the same numbers as Folkston, Georgia with 50-60 trains but those days are long gone after Hunter Harrison took over CSX and Jim Foote at the helm now. Traffic through there has been cut in half.
Hi Danny, the SD's & GE's, are they the class of Engine or Type? you may know, we now have Class 66 engines here in England that were built in the USA and Canada i think, Here all Locos and trains etc are in "Class type". Regards Kevin
Three years after the fact: SD50 #8595 is significant because it was the final locomotive delivered to the B&O (albeit ordered by then parent CSX Corp.).
No problem i do have a question to i am looking for a scanner. Something easy to use and gets good resection and something for beginners. Do you have any suggestions?
