I just wrapped my dowel in plastic wrap. Comes off easily. Also I chose a deeper pot to fill, so I used soil to top off the planters and put in impatiens, and ground cover.
Here is a constructive criticism: for the posts in the concrete - it looks better in the plastic pots, you should just give the outside of the pots a wipe clean. Also, you can add soil to the space on top of the concrete and grow plants - especially mosquito repelling type plants.
If you're creating any of the hula hoop light ideas, here's two things I learned through experience. It's important to attach the ribbon or chain at equal distances on the hula hoop. The chain or ribbon must be exactly equal lengths. Without these two measurements being exact, your hula hoop creation will never hang level.
Hoop light project. Don't use white to wrap hoop(s)...outdoors it will get very dirty looking quickly and shows up to much during the day. Suggest using green wire lights and a matching green to cover hoops. Will stay cleaner looking and your lights will show up without the white cords showing up. Unless you are doing a wedding then white is the best.

First project...screw in 4 screws into the wood pole towards the bottom. Leave screws sticking out so when you cover the bottom of the poles with concrete it will give a better hold because the poles will dry out and shrink after time. I also would not remove pots, it looks better. Fill pots to the top with concrete.

The thing is you can get ideas a head of time no matter what time of year it is. If you need to save up some money for a project now you have time. 😊🌺 from AZ so guess what we have to work with? 🌵-🌴-🌲 And everything in between. So just enjoy.
Keep the crete in the pots for extra durability to stand. Spray paint the pots any color so they don't look so basic. If you wanted to (depending on the look you're going for) you could pick up faux (cheap) greenery to fill the tops of the pots to complete the look. Total extra cost would be maybe $6. (Best case scenario is you already have the items in your possession).
Is the pot big enough to be supported the way they intended? I’d probably use a bigger pot, to make the base broader, and maybe even leave it in the pot. I’d plant some annuals in there, or some morning glories to climb up. That would be an easy and beautiful thing to do.
Just keep in mind two things: The plants hanging against those slats are hanging tilted. It doesn't actually look as nice as you think. Also, you have to leave sufficient space at the top of the pot for water and rain because the soil will run toward the side that is tilted, and plants will not be watered evenly. The bigger the pot, the more mess and problem with the tilt. Plus, they can't be hanging anywhere there is wind. Also, creating tiers means that the majority of the two lowest pots have little space to grow anything, and mold is likely to grow in between the pots. This happened to me when I tried it.If you still want to try it, plant something easy to grow in the lowest tier like mint, and make sure the lowest tier is really well draining, because the water will seep from the other two pots down into the third.
That living bench is an accident waiting to happen. If you insist on doing it then use pots made out of stronger material like concrete and the bottom portion isn't curved.
I would use a grapevine wreath for a couple of the projects instead of all that synthetic ribbon and hoops. Always opt for natural products when you can. It's better for the environment.
I agree bad timing Buzzfeed. Here’s the thing, and I really don’t mean to be offensive I just can’t watch another build video. Some of your ideas or projects aren’t half bad, even inspiring... However your attempts to show the ppl “how fast and easy” it is to build (for example that potting bench) results in poor work. Nearly every build I’ve watched from buzz feed is poorly executed, poor joinery and honestly could be built better. No wood glue, screws sticking out, sides/boards not flush whatsoever, grrr. I like some of your ideas, they’re good, but poor execution. And bc they are beginners in the wood working world you could be teaching different joinery like using pocket holes, dowels, etc. instead you slap boards together, barely screw them in much less flush and slap on some stain, calling it good but I feel like instead of your theme being “faster is better” slow it down and make attempts to put out decent projects. I really do enjoy buzz feed for much of the cooking videos etc. but I’d like to see do it yourself projects advance in quality.
JewDd* 89 I cringed at the misalignment of the screw holes in the bench 😂 if they are going to do that, at least countersink them, put some wood putty over, sand and THEN stain the whole thing. And for the love of all, please actually build an attached, sturdy planter frame for the plants and not pots! Their guests are going to look like they sat on the wrong end of a see-saw. Which is why we saw someone sit in the middle first. That last guy who sat on the end looked like he was nervous🤣🤣🤣 I’m by no means a master carpenter, but this isn’t good quality.
