No apology. He gives an excuse. No shame. No embarrassment. No sense of guilt. Chinese who show "understanding" to the man are the typical Chinese who can't handle criticism.

Whatever you called them. Strong country people, Mainlanders, Glass Hearts, Locusts and so on. These behaviours are unacceptable. Let alone to have a supervising adult to let a child to urinate instead of asking for a public toilet. Seriously, what the hell was wrong with him? Then again, you see this everywhere not just in Hong Kong. I saw it at department stores in Canada, grocery stores in the US. Heck, I have friends telling me the same at Art Museums in Europe. So tell me once again why Mainlanders are hated all around the world? It is not because of coincidence!

Back in the 90's it was very common for teachers to allow kids to relieve themselves here in Portugal in public. I was far too embarrassed to do that, but mostly because my Dad raised me not to do that. I can imagine a lot of these PT teachers were from uneducated homes. Poverty is not synonimous with being rude and improper though. Met a few mainland Chinese migrants who were super kind despite their weak English. I actually shop often in thrifty Chinese stores... but they are all Southern Cantonese or HK.

It is a sense of disrespect and it creates a bad image for all the sensible and more civilised mainland tourists who are trying to enjoy themselves wether it’s abroad or in the mainland itself. And for myself... I understand that unfortunately, there are times when we can't hold it in at all. It strips dignity away, yes. Gosh... It happened in Hong Kong too. Also, we can see a mainland Chinese say on RU-vid, "The people of Hong Kong are easy to bully (qifu)". Many mainland Chinese have a SMUG attitude towards the rest of the world, especially to more developed outposts of Chinese such as Hong Kong and Singapore. But condescendence comes from INSECURITY. Having been the victims of bullying for 1OOs of years many Chinese feel the need to assert themselves. The Chinese should self reflect. They will be the richest nation on earth soon. But they have no allies. No friends. No fellow nation that they do business with in South America or Africa, respects them. The Chinese lack leadership skills and that's largely to this arrogant attitude that they are beyond reproach. They should question their own behavior instead becoming angry at criticism.

He couldn't bear it anymore (there were still 15+ people in the line in front of us) and I said you can pee in the corner. He peed in the corner and I asked the staff for cleaning supplies. I cleaned all the mess and we both apologize for it. They were quite understanding about it. The staff even said sorry for the lack of the toilets and offers to clean the mess

That's how a responsible adult acts. Sometimes things can't be helped, but the way that guy in the video acts is the actual problem. He doesn't seem to give a flying fck about anything. If it really was a medical emergency with no other way and if he was a responsible adult like you, he would be apologizing and cleaning it up himself. Instead, he just stands there acting like it's the job of the station staff to clean others shit from the floor...

this is the result of the communist educational system. as a citizen of a former communist country myself, i can relate to the guy. in communist countries, when you need a toilet, you just let your nose lead the way. but because MTR toilets in hong kong don't smell from 1 km away, and because they are clean, they don't look like toilets. so the poor man thinks there are no toilets around, so when he can't hold it, he goes where ever he can.

Something quite similar happened to me in Melbourne. I was in Melbourne for my holidays and my cousin's convocation in 2018. While at his university, we needed to go to the toilet, so we went. A Chinese woman suddenly rushed into the toilet and without closing the toilet stall door, she pulled down her underpants and started urinating. My grandmother rushed both me and my aunt out before things got too awkward for all of us. I'm a Chinese girl from Malaysia and this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and inappropriate for anybody in the world. It's just disgusting.

Of course they did not use the toilet in public like this but you get why I said what I did above. I DO understand the gist of why a number of mainlanders and their children act the way they do. I know that man is most likely not the parent but I was referring to that kid’s actual parents. Of course not all mainlanders are like that. Some parents still teach their kids well in spite of having just one child. I have some friends from mainland who are very well disciplined and are nothing like this at all.

The Chinese government needs to implement health & hygiene lessons in their public education curricula, from kindergarten on until the end of high school. The recurring topics ( the human excretory system & elimination process) should include increasing depth of scientific content. Children must learn that proper personal hygiene habits are not just required social etiquette, but are enacted to protect public & personal health. Unacceptable "relieving anywhere as one needs to" endanger public health as well as their own ( e.g. defecating, urinating, spitting & vomiting in public ). Many rural adults in China did not have the opportunities to finish high school. May be they didn't learn enough science to know better. So it is the government's responsibility to re-educate them. Educational videos about the serious health threats to the public ( please see detailed description posted below) should be broadcast on prime time TV shows, popular social media, ali pay & village/township adult health re-education programs. Finally, if China truly wants to be a world class, civilized, cultured, respectful, caring & knowledgeable society, it must instill such core values in each individual citizen so that he will act according to his inner aspirations.

If this happened, the tour guide did a really bad job. He said the kid had diarrhoea so in this situation is understandable but it happened so often that I do not believe that excuse. All she had to say was, “I understand when kids have to go but please next time do not have your kids relieve themselves as it’s a health issue.” No need to go all out there and ask if he is from mainland China, that they made a mess and a Hong Kong person will have to clean up their mess. I saw other’s comment regarding Hong Kong people I have to say that I do find Hong Kong people extremely rude. I was born in China, migrated to the US at a very young age and grew up here in the state. My first visit to Hong Kong was at 11 with my family and was rudely yelled for standing on a sidewalk curve in a parking lot and minding my own business by some Hong Kong blue collar worker. In a civilized culture, a bunch of grown adults yelling at a 11 year old girl that is just totally uncalled for. If you need access to the sidewalk or needed me to not stay in that area all you needed was to ask. As the years went by, every time I had to stay in Hong Kong I did not have a pleasant experience; if I don’t need to I always avoid going to Hong Kong even though my family owns many properties in Hong Kong. Don’t get me wrong, the food and shopping is great but I could live without everything else.

Its mainly about their culture they grew up on, not if they are chinese or not. Hongkong and Singapore's populations are mostly made up of chinese too, and we don't do these kind of stuff, education about etiquette is key.

If China truly wants to be a world class, civilized, cultured, respectful, caring & knowledgeable society, it must instill such core values in each individual citizen so that he will act according to his inner aspirations. Parental behaviour is the observed model of children behaviour. Parental values powerfully affect their children's social & emotional growth. The parent should have taken his child to a washroom in a restaurant near the subway if there isn't one available inside the subway.

The guide explained that the child had abdominal issues. So either he do it in the corner or he would have to do it in his pants. The cleaning lady didn’t even say anything and was gracious enough to help him. The HK woman went too far to shame the guide and say those horrible things to him in front of those kids. They didn’t have to hear her insult and degrade him like that. HK people have such a power trip and make mainlanders feel less than human all the time. Have a heart and don’t shame the kid like that. He has a mother too.

@asdf8650
@asdf8650 3 года назад
There are other factors more important that that, for example the HK Cantonese difference to mainland Cantonese, the historical difference being a British colony. Those are more root causes for behavioural differences. Then geographical term or political or whatever, is hongkong part of China, the geographical location definitely makes it China, but in politics it all becomes very fuzzy, sort of like Scotland and England. Scotland used to be independent but now is part of the UK, so it is part of the UK but not part England. So I guess hongkong would be part of China but not part of the mainland? IDK I'm just going off at a tangent.

That's so disgusting. The officials should demand the tour guide and the 8 year old to clean up his own mess. 8 years old should have known better to go to relief himself in a public bathroom. There are so many very nice and clean public bathrooms in the subway station. Tummy ache is no excuse. Selfishness is the true reason. Shame on them.

A lot of MTR stations doesn't have a public toilet. BUT if you really feel it's an emergency to use one, you can go to the customer service and let the staff know and they will bring you to use their staff toilet. They will guide you there and wait until you are done. HK mtr staff are very nice to let you do that and even though these people are only tourists but they still could have asked for help. Rather than wait for the situation to turn out this way...
