Gotta ask, how do you put the bearings on these old school bikes in the headset? On the bottom of the fork, does the balls face up with the flat part of the bearings facing the tire. On the top the balls facing down with the flat part facing the handlebars? More or less the balls are facing in the inside of the head tube? Thank you in advance.
I had a chrome Pro Racer that I bought in 1982 for $450. I had it for about 6 months and someone shattered the hatch glass of my Celica to steal it. Good thing I had insurance which paid for a new window, and cut me a check for $500 to replace the hutch. All that was available was one black Pro Racer within 150 miles so I bought that. I got a great deal on it as everything that could be Hutch brand was on there. That bike was my favorite of the 50 or so that I’ve owned. I rode it on the the street for a few weeks and then an opportunity to move out of state for a much better job came up. I sold everything that wasn’t needed to live in order to make the move. My neighbor bought the Hutch for her grandson. He was a good kid, but had health issues. That bike was never ridden again. He kept it displayed with pride for 32 years. He posted a picture on Facebook of it and a surgeon in Colorado bought it for $15,000.00!
Nice job on bike. 1 question i had a hutch pro racer back in the day the rear brake cable went through the frame factory. Was told if it didnt it was a fake.Mine went through frame if it wasn't factory it was done by a pro bought brand new 800 bucks. who knows mine could have been a fake .solve the mystery it doesn't really matter i loved that bike a head turner
My brother had a blue chrome hutch BMX in the early 80 man wat a beautiful color that was, and I was driving he's older BMX😠bud had a lot of fun 🙂, very beautiful hutch this is👍.
I had a simular one when I lived in Antioch California. I bought my hutch used for $75 from a guy down the street and it got stolen. I was really upset about it.
I rode and raced a Hutch pro racer for my etire child hood and had a gary lit john side hack that was on my hutch for years. Miss them both and actually my name and phone number was scribed into frame.
I had a Hutch Pro Racer for 25 years. I've owned many bikes but the Hutch fit like a glove and I rode that thing everywhere. 10 years ago I sold it to a friend, who sold it to someone else, who sold it on again. Recently, I started thinking how much I regretted selling it and thought maybe, just maybe there is the slimmest chance I could get it back. I put a post up on the NZ Old School BMX facebook site and low and behold, found the current owner. Best yet, he still has it as frame and forks and is willing to sell it back to me. It's going to be like reuniting with an old friend. Props to Brett for letting me have it back. I'll post a finished build video when it's done on RU-vid. Happy days.
Nice just subscribe to your Channel I'm a fan of all old BMXs not sure if you take requests but I would like to see a 1989 Mongoose expert build that was my first BMX as a kid haven't seen one since love the videos keep up the good work
i had this bike in 1992 by 1998 it was just the frame : I had added Haro freestyle forks with peg dropouts, GT front bolt 80 stem ; haro freestyle handlebars / the one that looked like Hoffman Biked ; excalibur cranks ; Oddesey 44 T aluminum sprocket ; 48 spoke double walled sun rims ; pitbull braked ; multiple tyres brake levers and grips - as time went by in the 90 freestyle bikes got heavy and thick and design variated tremendously between flatland , freestyle, dirt jumping and bmx racing. The reason why i kept the frame was because it worked in all fields and better yet it was lighter than most freestyle frames I had access in my country (gt and haro) - incredibly today all that beefy heavy nonsense is over and everyone rides similar frames too the hutch ; the frame was ahead of its time without intention i believe
