You saved the best til last! I love synth music in general but especially the Pet Shop Boys. I might have included “To Cut a Long Story Short” by Spandau Ballet as well. Although their overall sound wasn’t massively synthy, their debut single was definitely an 80s synth classic. You could also have included The Communards, which was the duo Jimmy Somerville formed with Richard Coles after he left Bronski Beat. Coles went on to become Reverend Richard Coles, so he is the only vicar to have had a UK number one! (Don’t Leave Me This Way in 1986).
How could you have forgotten Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode since it is considered one of the best electronic songs of the 80s. I'm American and I know that.
Ahh, I can see how you'd think that, but as a big Depeche Mode fan, I can assure you I did not forget it. At the time of recording, I'd recently used it in another quiz, so I thought I'd pick another one of their very popular songs. It also meant I could hold Enjoy The Silence back in case I made a follow-up quiz 😉
As soon as i came up with the idea, i always had in mind to end with Pet Shop Boys 😁 I realised a couple of days after I'd finished creating the quiz that I'd missed out including Spandau Ballet and The Communards, particularly Don't Leave Me This Way. As they're both excellent suggestions, I'll make note of them in case this video does quite well and I feel the need to make a sequel 😄 thank you!!
Given the breadth of your knowledge I'm surprised you have Heaven 17 down as 1 Hit wonders; Come Live with me was also top 10 and a few others made top 40
I think that's a very fair point. I've always seen two different types of One Hit Wonders. The true One Hit Wonders who came, produced/performed one song and either disappeared or completely failed with any follow up song. The other is what is probably more widely seen as a One Hit Wonder. The two examples that always come to mind for me are Barbie Girl and Take On Me. A lot of people put them in One Hit Wonder lists, yet both Aqua & A-ha had three or four number 1 hits beyond those two songs. Perhaps one day I'll do a 'One Hit Wonders, But Their Other Songs' quiz....
@@SHQuiz Some lists gives songs as one hit wonders from a USA perspective but I can tell from your accent thats not where you are from.. I don't thin A-ha can be a 1 hit wonder in any UK PoV; 'Take on me wasn't even their No. 1 in the UK, and they have several other top 10s including the sign that you've been 'noticed' by the 'powers that be' - A Bond theme! I thought a 'true 1 hot wonder' is A number 1.. and no other record, or at least no other hit - Like Japanese Boy' by Aneka' however, I should drop any criticism, I really enjoyed your Quiz about 80%, so your knowledge outstrips mine and this was 'my decade;; I'd put you at a bit younger (going on voice)
A lot of those songs/artists actualky have relation to each other,,,,when frontman of joy devision ian curtis died they changed their name to new order and made the best selling 12" ever (blue monday) sold nearly 60 million copies, when the human league started they were only male member they then broke up and phill oakey got to keep the name 2 of the other members formed a short lived grupe called BEF but when thy found glen gregory they changed name to heaven 17 but keept the BEF name as their record company.....Midge ure was in both visage and ultravox as vince clarke was founding member of depeche mode, yazoo and erasure BTW no DEVO ??
That's some absolutely top tier fact knowledge. I didn't realise the stuff about Heaven 17, so that's new to me - thank you. I love learning about these kind of details
I don't know about anyone else, but I like Dead or Alive's version of KC and the Sunshine Band's "that's the Way" (probably because of the flexing buff girls and Pete's outfit).
😲 wow! Thank you so much! You and the whole family are absolutely welcome, I'm so glad you're still enjoying and am extremely grateful to you, especially as you've been watching along and supporting for so long. I best ask if you're happy to be thanked in next week's video? 😁 thank you so much again
@@SHQuiz More awesome quizzes is the only thanks we need. We just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you put into these & as I said before, looking forward to many more ❤️❤️
@sandy6604 oh I'll absolutely do my best to keep making them, don't you worry. At the very least, I'll have to say thank you in the description next week, I'm ever so grateful, thank you! 😊
Yet another awesomely fun look through my playlist now haha being 80's kids me and hubby loved this so much, you really do put together good quizzes sweetie, Thank you so much for doing these for us all to kick back and enjoy, big hugs Tracey and Andy :) 🥰
Hi, I got about 50% right. I was born in 89 but love 80s music, especially synthesizers. My favourite is Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, A-ha, Tears for Fears. I really enjoyed your quiz but I have still much to learn ;-) Thank you!
Great quiz. I think I got all but three correct (Thompson Twins, Real Life and Naked Eyes, in case you're wondering). Another brilliant song of that era that should be included is Yellow Pearl by the late, legendary Phil Lynott. You will probably remember it as the theme tune of Top of the Pops in the earl9 80s.
Although in my opinion, they are very good, I think they're was 'most' people consider a one hit wonder. One of their other top 10s is a remix of the same song 😁 but I totally see your point, and strictly speaking, they did have other hits.
Loved it again mate, few I didn’t know but I think I got 32 out of 40. Bit of a vent but I’m genuinely shattered I didn’t grow up in this era. I live vicariously through the old mans stories with these songs. Very jealous of his teen years
Haha, I feel that vent deep within me. I can only imagine how amazing it would have been to be a teenager listening to all these songs for the 1st time, and they just keep coming and coming! Terrific score (unsurprisingly), thank you!
Considering I don't like either synthpop or 1980s music, I actually got most of these! Love 'Together In Electric Dreams' and 'Sometimes' though. Surprised to see no Spandau Ballet there.
I know, I'm quite frustrated I forgot to include Spandau Ballet to be honest. Together in Electric Dreams in an excellent song, in my opinion. I'm glad you did so well in a not so desirable category for you though, thank you 🙂
