I operated an M, MD, 400, 706, 856,1206, 966, and a black stripe 1066 during my time on the farm from the 1960s through the 1980s. Never had a mechanical problem with any of them. These machines amazingly stood the test of time with proper maintenance.
Something about that Turbo 1206 always tugs on the heartstrings! Wish I had two of them out in the quonset. Summertime while we were irrigating, dad use to put the big tires and the narrow front end on that 1206 and tractor pull with it all over the Midwest. What a machine!
I had a German uncle that loved taking vacations on my Dad's farm. He couldn't wait to run the old M with two row corn picker. Our M came from Illinois from a relative that had a dealership. We use it every summer to bale with and the engine still hasn't been touched after 60 years.

My dad was a farmer and the first tractor I drove by my self was a 1086 pulling a disk when I was 7 years old. We had a 656 with a loader attached to it, a 1486 ih, 5488 ih, 1896 case ih and a 7240 Magnum was our last one. Had a few green ones but not really worth mentioning, you know.
Yes i enjoyed your IH line up. My grandma used to say if a product was well made, she'd say "it was made from iron" boilerplate construction those letter models. Contemporary stuff isn't made that way anymore. My favorite era is 1950s up to late 1970s. I like the machinery sounds that you provide, many play music, you don't and that pleases my experience. BTP = Professional Productions.
That was really good. I noticed the gold paint job on a Magnum. The MX series was the last I ever operated. Enjoyed seeing the 1586.... I could go on and on. Thumbs up here.
bigtractorpower maybe you would know, you had the Farmall white demonstrators, then the gold demonstrators, were there any other manufacturers doing something like that? If so, I wonder who started it?
Awesome video again BTP. We run all red tractors from the 56 series and 66 series and 7120 and 7140 magnums and a couple maxxum tractors. Love the old IH tractors thanks for the video really enjoyed watching it!
My favorite video of yours so far. To be fair I am bias😁. My dad's main farm tractor was an 806. When he passed away I inherited his 1946 H that he inherited from his dad. My brother inherited a 1953 Super M. My dad completely restored the M before he passed. I'm hoping to be able to restore the H at some point although it still runs great and has been well maintained.
Ran IH ,Case ,JohnDeere ,and Catipller .enjoyed running all of them I guess I ran the Cat. The longest . I forgot the zFord suppermajor 5000 . Wore that one plumb out . Used the Cat. to pull a dirt pan and move dirt around . Used the 4230JD to plow, bushhog ,planting, and bailing hay with a 438 J.D . BAILOR . MAN COULD IT PUT SOME BALES of hay . Had three trucks and five pickups hauling hay behind me . I could bale over 3,000 bales a day . Had to keep plenty of baking wire on hand . Carried four rolls on the baler at all time . Now days you can't even get people to even look at it ;muchless haul it . Had one customer that bought 4,000 bales from us e each year We had to haul it after we got off the job . He wouldn't let anyone else haul because of the way we stacked it. Makes a lot of difference when it is being stacked outside . Had to be stacked real tite to shed water. He tried to haul it himself ,but couldn't stand up to it . We delivered a lot of hay around over the county at late evenings to people that baught it . We even some in snow storms ,now that can get rough at times .
Agreed mark groth the 66 are my favorite as well just the look of them has me hooked on them I've only so far got one which is a 866 my other two red tractors are a 574 and a 414 but still would like to add a 1466 and a 1066 to the colection one day
You've done a fantastic job on your video !, really enjoyed watching your video, you deserve an academy award for your effort ! 🙂 Thank you for shearing 👍 wished someone did the European built one's !
Thank you for your comment and for watching. If I could get footage of classic European tractors through today I would be excited to make a similar video. I would like to do one on Deutz, Fendt and Fiat.
i started following Mike Less and BTP at the same time.thank you BTP. i was a fan of Red then i ran a White and Versatile that is when i changed my tractor brand. very good video and thank you for all your time and work.
Mike Less and I agree that you are one of our very best fans. I sent him a copy of your message. Thank you for watching and always leaving comments. It is very appreciated.
I can't tell you how many times we pulled our neighbors 706 out of a mud puddle with our allis chalmers wd45 so yea leave that pos in the shed probably won't start anyway yea I said wd45
Our farm has or has had tractors from most of those series. We have an M, 406, 756, Maxxum 5140, Magnum 7110, Magnum 7220, and a MX 215. We've traded off two 856's, a 1066, and a 1486. I just used the M this morning with a box blade, smoothing out a road. The 7000 series Magnum's are still the most dependable and productive tractors I've seen and are probably why our small farm is still in business.
1939 was the introduction of the Farmall M, H, and A the first farmall was called the Farmal Regular. It was the very first farmall and row crop tractor ever made and was introduced in 1924.
Did not know about the 80 th Anniversary till I watched your video now that being said I now want to repaint my Super M for the occasion thanks for helping me spending my money 💰
Good job on that, it must have taken a good bit of work to get all that documented and assembled! I wonder how many of those early tractors measured in belt horsepower actually had a belt drive pulley installed. I bet less and less as the years went on. And of those with a pulley, I wonder how many ever used it, at least before appearing as an antique in a farm show. :-)
You promised red and delivered! Grew up with the 72 series tractors, the new ones make it easy but man the 72 series where the best built IMO. That cummins engine and case power shift were just tanks.
My favorite tractors were the 100 series tractors the 88 series international and the first generation magnums . Currently I run my little farm with my grandfather and fathers 1956 farmall 200 and a 2008 Caseih farmall 55a .
My grandpa ( mom's side) had all International tractors . My dad had all Massey Ferguson's. I have a IMT 539 ; John Deere 5320 cab ; Massey Ferguson 3070 cab. One day I like to have a older International tractor.
bigtractorpower I seriously your videos. I still go back to my childhood on my both of my grandpa's farms the last year in 1975 when I was 15 & now I'm 57 & be 58 in six weeks. So Thank you!
Love your video's + the History.. Wish you could see these tractors @ work in the North East farms.... There is no "Flat Land up there + A Ton of "Grey" Clay....
Great job on your video, very informative. I often wondered if IH survived the bad old days of the early 80's how things would be different today. ( The Super 70 series tractors with a CVT transmission or the 88 series tractors with a full power-shift transmission.) What might have been.
Great vid👍what Red Power Tour of 80 years, I wish I could film Australia versions like A5554, 66 series, 976 and 86 series. Magnum was big change n over series they got better. Today Magnum is like driving car compare early tractors especially with CVT.
First tractor I ever operated was a farmall 350 trike tractor, It was the summer before I started fifth grade and used it to haul water out to the free range pigs
I also remember when mason the farmers son was driving, I’d stand on the drawbar hitch and hold onto the seat while we hauled ass down the dirt road to the pig farm😂
bigtractorpower , my dad ordered a blackstripe 1066 new from the factory, no cab, no 3pt, used as main tillage tractor for many years. It still does a fair amount of tillage, but mostly for haying now. I was 3yrs old when it came to the farm but I think I have put most of the over 10,000 hours it has, on it.
farmers don't forget about old smokey!!! And I think you've got a couple other old 70/90 series cases if I remember right.... I'm a big case fan... and we share names lol 😂
Had a 766 back in 80's on farm, good simple tractor. It deep ripped a lot of virgin scrub after it had been chained. Was the aussie built one with German engine
I'm not kidding about this, but my family recently traded off the 100,000th Magnum tractor ever made. It was a MX 255 and had the 100,000 logo and everything.
You should really do one of these videos for John Deere and Oliver and maybe Massy Ferguson. I understand it takes awhile to get footage and put it all together but it would be really cool.
I do plan to do as many of these videos as possible. Deere is getting closer. I need to film some more two cylinders, a 4010, 6030, 4840, 4850, 4955 and 8400R. Massey has a ways to go. Oliver is one I want to do but need to find more. I may do a general White Farm Equipment history video soon.
