I’ve seen those ADS trucks on the road for years and never knew what the pipe was for. I also saw the Gold Digger in a field just last week and wasn’t sure what they were doing. Ben you answered both questions in one very informative and great video. It seemed like 30 minutes long not 50. Everyone there is a fantastic representative of their company. Thank you for sacrificing the crop to bring this video to us. All the best young man. Otto from Otisco NY.
The most informative tile plow video I’ve seen. We bought a Soil Max Gold Digger ZD 2 years ago and feel we made the best choice. Great plow. Tech support is top notch. We pull it with a D7H dozer and a another 52,000 lb. dozer when needed. ( Add stones to your blue clay and that’s us!! ) We also use ADS pipe!! Great job!
Heck of an upgrade from putting down clay tile. My family moved to Wi from northwest Iowa In the late 1950s.I was 10. I remember helping my Dad dig up broken clay tile on our rented farm. Cement tile was the (new) tile coming in. Wi is getting more and more tile. Great video. Good stuff. Keep them coming!
Ben, I hope SoilMax is smart enough to get you involved with their company. There are very few young men with the experience, attitude, and language skills that you have. The old story, you find the brightest and best, and hire them.
When I started watching this video I was not expecting 50 minutes! Not a problem though it was great information from beginning to end, thanks for sacrificing some beans to make this demonstration!
Not really sure why you need a drain tile to get water downhill unless the grade is different than the camera shows but cool deal really. That tractor is a stud! Hearing that diesel work was worth watching the video.
Remember when your dad said,Ben why are you making those silly videos? Now your Dad says,Ben,can I gettya a beer? Wow! 25k viewers get some heavy hitters out to your farm. Congrats Ben and crew!
We lay tile with a gold digger and as a little trick here in North Carolina we will run an AB line from our power box out to our pivots to loosen the soil and then we will run the wiring with the plow too and there’s no need to dig a ditch to be back filled across the field
Where abouts are ya in iowa? I just finished a job in montezuma/ malcom area. The old english wind farm, it was beautiful out there except we ran into alot of clay like mud with the trencher and got rained out 34 days out of 70 lol
Thank you for this video. I learned a lot. Gold Digger ZD vs D K precision trencher? Never ran a string of tile that didn’t pay for its self. I remember putting in clay tile as a kid. Hard work.
I have liked, subscribed and rang the bell, one of your best videos to date, very informative for other farmers and your channel has been a great advertising platform for soil max and the pipe supplier,I would of like to have heard some thoughts on what your father had on the whole deal,
@@iowANFarmer Good man I think comparison from the older generation can be good viewing and will add more content to your videos bandit gets added so adding your dad should be no bother, keep the videos coming one of best channels out there atm ,👍
A great video-very informative. Bandit and I would like to know why you got more dirt on you than the plow and don't tell us that you didn't have no plastic sides?
That was interesting to watch. How will you go about smoothing out the large humps they created? Will the soybeans that were flattened be salvageable at all for harvest?
very interesting and informative even to someone who lives in a large east coast city. I get it that your clay is dense so why do you have to tile on land that is sloped? When water makes it thru the top soil and hits the clay and that clay is sloped doesn't gravity cause it to run downhill? I remember in the early 60's when my grandfather in Indiana used fired clay pipe to drain areas of his farm, a much different operation!

iowANFarmer yep, Soil-Max and ADS (formerly Hancor) were about two miles apart. ADS is still here and as you know Soil-Max moved to a larger facility in Terre Haute. Both good products made in America.
Is the chain hanging on the back of the plow for static electricity because you are causing so much friction in the dirt to keep it from harming the electronics?
iowANFarmer oh ok thank you! Awesome video! Glad to see companies starting to partner with you and hopefully that will really help you to grow your channel. Always great content and many laughs. Keep up the good work!
Hey Joe, why can't I have multiple min/max/target depths per run? How bout an end of run minimum depth? Intellislope will not let me design mains. How bout the ability to crop a survey if it goes too far over the top end of the run? Currently, Intellislope can only handle laterals. Barely. Of course I can stop mid-run and change the parameters, but every time you stop a pull type plow, you have to give up depth or grade. I made these complaints (and more) to a soil-max rep at NFMS 2020. He kept nodding his head and saying yes, we hear these complaints daily....Agleader is not willing to update or upgrade intellislope. (mine has an integra display) The stealth ZD plow itself works very well.
I work for a tiling company and they do a fair amount of tiling in standing crop. They are so busy that they have troubles getting to everyone, so often farmers will agree to go ahead and tile thru crop. If you calculate what is actually destroyed, it’s negligible compared to the benefit of getting the tile in the ground. We’ve seen several farms that had so much benefit from the tile in that same season, it more than compensated for the damage. It’s hard to see, but definitely works.
bonjour. j'adore les tracteurs articulaient, c'est ma passion, je suis fils d' agriculteur et parfois je suis amener a conduire des tracteurs.je voudrais savoir, la puissance. pierre france. congratulations.
Why wouldn't you dig the lateral /main junctions before you bury the main? If you dig the access in line with the main, you would straddle the hole and that small portion would not be buried. Costs money to have men standing about with two tractors standing idle.
Don, good comment. That would normally be the case, but because this was a demonstration deal, we flatted it back out so people could walk/drive about easily.
We have had several places where little critters have dup down to the tile and had access to the “freeway of roots buffet” . You find them when the tile line becomes plugged at the gopher hole.
