@@raymondcooper4739 Hi, That is not a fair comparison, you are comparing last Gen Emotiva with a new Crown, buy the Gen3 and you will see what everyone is talking about.
I was using a basx a300 and it sounded pretty good. But I upgraded to this amp with a schitt freya+ and it’s a huge difference. So much more power and clarity. Everything just sounds very detailed
For anyone interested, a brief comparison to the BasX A300 or the newer version of it called the BasX A2... I have owned both amps, and if I were going to try to boil it down to a few sentences in terms of what the differences are; its basically this, both amps sound great and are audiophile quality. So what are you getting for your extra $1,300, in a word its DETAIL. Both amps sound pleasing to the ear but the DR series is far more resolving and spacious. Its not something I thought I needed but after upgrading (mostly out of curiosity) I find I can't live without it. That added detail and nuance is also a welcome addition for movies and TV as well as music. For an amp that's affordable and if you aren't overly critical, go with the BasX series, incredible value for money. For the critical listener and the home theater person, go with the DR series.
I have the bassX now and am contiplaiting either the DR2 or the XPA2 for my next upgrade. Thanks for the comparison differences. I’m looking forward to it. I see Emotiva just came out with a nice balanced DAC/Pre to go with the DR called the XDA DAC Gen 3 👍🏻
I’ve been running the XPA-DR3 for a few months now and I absolutely love it. You may not realize it if your just getting into home theater or high end stereo, but having separates gives you so much more freedom than using an all in one AVR. Mainly with the ability to use external DSP if your not using something like an XMC-1 with a fully functional PEQ as your headend processor.
i have an old Sunn spl 9000 pro series power amplifier made in 1978 still works great, 250 watts at 8 ohms. got the 7 channel of the gen 3 last year its a very good amplifier !
i would love to see you compare this DR model vs the standard XPA-3 Gen 3 version. Is the differential amp design worth $600 more? Nor has anyone compared this DR model to any other amps in the same price range. Thanks
@Scott Cooper understood, lugging all that gear around prevents me from testing stuff too. What if you just bring your A300 up to the Maggies. You could easily carry it and swap it out. If you do this please let me know your findings. Super curious.
@@rockman22 I bought a300 for a pair of sealed subs, but I did drive my maggie 1.7i's with it for a week while I waited on the DR2 amp. It sounded ok, but honestly it didnt have the power necessary and alway felt constrained. I also have the a5175 amp and it was the same. When the DR2 showed up it certainly had the power required, but it didn't have the sound I was looking for, so I just bit the bullet and bought the Parasound A21+ which thankfully had the power and the tone I was looking for.
Compared to all other amps you've heard, did you notice any kind of compression or lack of cut off dynamics? I had this probelm with XPA Gen5 and after contacting support I was told that the XPA boards have limiters that might enable if you have power hungry speakers. They pointed me to the DR2 but it kind of felt like an upsell. Now I am about to order this thing but worried that I might have the same issue.
@@TechinaSec101 Sure, my speakers are 85db/1w with 4 Ohms. I was running only those two. The thing is, my Denon 6400 AVR with about 160Watt doesn't have any problems, but when I plugged into the XPA-5 the sound was clearly compressed. You didn't even need to listen closely. It was as if a compressor was enabled. The preouts of the Denon aren't to blame since I had a Class D 960Watt for comparision and it was fine.

I am up in the air. I have an opportunity to get a McIntosh mc5100 integrated amp. With a amazing tube tuner matching. The guy wants 1600 for it. But I’m not sure if I want it or this dr2 unit. One is 45 watts a channel and the other is 550 watts a channel. And newer
Hi, The Quality would be slightly towards the Rotel, But that is a big price different and i feel it doesn't justify the quality increase. Basically buy the Emotiva and spend the extra money else where. if its the same price buy the Rotel. :)
hello..very good video..good work .. question? I have heard, read .. how emotional is very bright for klipsch ..? I run system marantz 7012 + Emotiva basx a-700 all my speakers are klipsch..run 7.2.4 ..front Rp-280F and RP-504C ,, was too bright ..and just connect the amp for the Dolby atmos 2 pair and the 1 pair surround..better. Do you think Xpa gen 2 is better? than basx A-700.. or is everyone Emotiva with klipsch like this? Thank you
The sensitivity of the crown or pa amps is very low compared to an av amp. I tried myself with my marantz pre amp to some qsc amps that i have left over and it has to be turned up high to get the amps to even notice the signal. Had to add add samson "s" converters to get the signal gain. Hope this helps a bit.
Ok dont beat me up on this question as I really dont know but, with high efficiency speakers just pushing 30 watts is extremely loud so I dont understand how one would even run 500 watts plus and still be able to be in the same room as your speakers! So "watt" gives? (Pun intended) lol!!!
haha liked your pun, but the issue is not all speakers are High Efficient and most of the very good one are low efficiency, also even if your playing in low volumes, having the extra power isnt a bad thing.
Someone could explain more technically than me, but decibels are a logarithmic scale. I believe a doubling of power in watts achieves an increase of only 3 decibels. Where 100 watts = 107 dB, 200 watts = 110 dB, and 400 watts = 113 dB. So to double the 'loudness' in decibels you have to multiple the watts by ten.
No thanks, I think I'll save my money and get a real amp instead...Might be good to power two subs, but I wouldn't let that thing get anywhere NEAR my speakers...
