I wonder how they gonna run services that are operated by tilting pendolinos with something that doesn't have such feature...
@nateayi

Slower, seems to be answer. They're limited to 110mph on the WCML so they're being timetabled to run slightly slower. They aren't doing full WCML runs though, not going up to Scotland.

@@nateayi I thought they're going to replace class 390. Now it makes sense.

They'll only operate between Liverpool/North Wales & Shrewsbury so won't overly use the EPS speeds. Plus they accelerate faster than a Pendolino anyhow.

@@downonthestour that seems like a good answer but to me it feels silly. Why have trains that you know cannot reach the full potential of the shoddy infrastructure even if desperately needed to? What if there’s a shortage of Pendolinos; is our service just going to be even more delayed than usual? Anyway I’m sure they’ll have thought of something. The good acceleration taht you mentioned may make up for it idk

Class 90 with a full rake could easily run at 110 on WCML, all curves were banked to allow it. One of the steepest banked curves was through Berkhamsted station where if memory serves me the rail height difference was 10 inches.

So how much slower is the 805/807 supposed to be compared to the 390? I've also heard claims the IET accelerates faster, but on paper it looks like splitting hairs. 9 car IET has 6000hp on the wire, 9 car 390 has 8400hp but is heavier. I have some idea how the 801 accelerates based on sim performance, it's light years faster than a HST, but gets left in the dust by a Vectron, City Sprinter/ACS-64 and DB BR101 all passenger/freight locos with 125mph/200km/h speeds and similar usage to the IET just on the continent or US.

They're limited to 110 currently on electric but they're doing works to enable 125 running on EPS sections.

Horsepower doesn't equal actual tractive effort or acceleration. The IETs have considerably faster acceleration, the 390s are quite slow from standing even compared to other semi-modern highspeed stock as far as I can tell. Adhesion also makes a difference to the acceleration from a standing before wheelslip occurs.
