I need to point out that the factory in Levallois-Perret, Paris, was the main assembly plant for the 2CV until the last one rolled off the production line on the 25th February 1988. The facility at Mangualde, in Portugal, became the only remaining production line until the very last car rolled off the line on the 27th July 1990. An easy way to figure out whether the car is French or Portuguese is the factory stamping on the windows. French cars have glass produced by Saint-Gobain, and Portuguese cars have glass which says Corvina. Also, front door hinges are painted black on Paris built cars, but are white or body colour on cars built in Mangualde.

Oh... the Citroen boot badge on the 1987 model points towards it being an early Portuguese built car, as French ones had the chevrons positioned after the Citroen script on a slightly longer base. 🤓 🤣

Locking fuel caps were a dealer fit option. All 2CVs came from the factory with a non-locking cap (stainless steel on 2CV6/2CV4).

Boot handles are actually different. Early cars had a much more sculptured look to the later, flatter boot handles. I much prefer the earlier version, and they are an easy retro-fit, so I have one on my 1988 2CV.

Love it. I have had 3 x 2CV6 from new. Total 550,000 kms in 43 years. 1988 to 1990 make in Portugal. 1948 to May 1988 in France. RHD 2CV6s made in Portugal in RHD were limited to the Special for the UK. 13 RHD late 1989/1990 Charlestons were made and shipped to Australia. I have a 1990 series Charleston. Portuguese 2CVs rusted much faster the French 2CVs and were not quite as well made. Previously I had a French made 1982 2CV6 Charleston delivered in Paris in RHD for a 15 month tour of UK Ireland Europe Canada and USA. It had disc front brakes. My 1978 2CV6 Club had drums at a time when Dyanes had discs. My understanding that the first 2CV was 2 fiscal horse power for taxation. A 2CV4 and Dyane4 are 4 fiscal horse power. Same with 2CV6 Dyane 6 and Ami 6. The Ami 8 had 8 fiscal horses. The Ami Super had a 1015 cc GS engine. This 1015 GS engine was fitted to the 3 yellow James Bond 2CVs for Roger Moore to fang down the mountain side in For Your Eyes Only. My 1982 Charleston was fitted with the factory hatch back option. After 6 months it was removed under warranty and a new roof fitted also under warranty as the flex point of the vinyl was cracking.. .

Hi, thanks's for your video and share. Just to notice thar Vigo is at Spain, not Portugal. The last 2cv6 were build al Mangualde, Portugal.

I rode in an old one back in 1960 assisting the driver in taking about 18 pieces of luggage from our chalet in Chamonix down to the train station . It was amazing how one of them could climb the steepest of hills with a full load.

Interesting Video! I would like to clarify that the last 2CV’s were produced in Almusafes Portugal. However there is also a Citroen plant in Vigo Spain, the 2CV6 in your video could be either from the Almusafes plant in Portugal or from the Vigo plant in Spain but definitely not from Vigo Portugal.

Hello, I came across your video by accident, and I will have to correct you on your information. Vigo is in Spain. The automobile factory that you refer to, in Portugal, is in Mangualde, and as I write to you in 2021 the 2 CV is no longer in production. The last production run was in fact in Portugal, but it cessed on 27 July 1990.

3.8 million 2CVs can't be wrong. Citroen were a bit sneaky in the 80s. They called the standard model of the 70s and 80s (square headlights, posher door trim, larger dash etc etc) the Club, and snuck the Special in underneath, with spec harking back to earlier models. Dolly,, Charleston etc based on the Special as the Club was discontinued. Then the limited edition Bond film yellow paintwork and stick-on bullet holes. Please correct any errors in the above. If anyone knows, you will. :)

from 1948 to 1990, 5 114 961 2cv's was built + 250 2cv type TPV 1939 (never sale because the war)

That brought back memories of fitting a new screen to my Acadiane, I broke it but a windscreen company came round and fitted a new one on my drive. OK it cost a few quid but it was done on the insurance

Sorry, mate, but the VIN on my 1988 Charleston begs to differ. The last French made and commercially sold 2CV, a model 2CV6 Special in "gris cormoran," left the Citroen factory in Levallois-Le Perret on 18 May 1988.

@@OliverPickard I suppose it's even harder in the US to know the exact dates for some of these cars because they are imported as "grey market" vehicles either by using chassis from older "donor" cars or changing out the VIN plates. Mine is actually titled as a 1977 even though it left Germany as a 1988 with the first letters of the VIN being VF (France). Cheers!

Made in Portugal - Vigo????????? Vigo is in the north of Spain. That blue car was made in Portugal - Mangualde.

Defranzone in Germany is expensive but they tell you about quality so you know what you are getting before you order and have fantastic customer service

Some interesting facts... The water window washing is done by hand on the dashboard and not by feet as far as I know. Paris produced them until end of January 1988. I think, Vigo made mainly the fourgonette, but not shure. Would have been nice to compare them during a short drive. Please take off the sunglasses while getting filmed, it seems rather unpolite to me...

Had a special edition one in the 1980's with a blue wave down the side, can't remember the name. I'd swapped a Porsche 924, the cheap man's Porsche for it. Great car while I had it and as I'd previously had a Citroen Visa, a sort of modern 2CV & before that a GS I was clearly having a Citroen phase! Can you find one of the vans & do a video on it, would love to turn one into a micro-camper.

Hi Oliver, just wanted to say that I like your vids a lot. I'd love to buy a 2cv/Dyane/Ami so I am learning; filling up my brain with info for now. I am French and obviously very attached to these little beauties. I'm living in the UK and sadly the prices are very high ( I know there's no cheap 2cv). It'd be very useful to have a video about how much it'd cost to freshen up a 2cv. Anyway, thanks for your videos!

Hi Ant, I've thought about making a video about that in the past but because the price of 2cvs varies so widely (45,000 Dollars in the USA) it's almost impossible. Also alot of people can't do work themselves in which case really good mechanics are worth it but expensive. My advice for people on a budget is look at Dyane's, ami8 break's and Akadyane's and get the best possible car you can afford
