DETAIL :
Amorgos is the farthest island of the Cyclades from Athens, it is 33 km long and 2 to 6 km wide
It is famous because quite a few scenes from the film "Le Grand Bleu" (by Luc Besson) were shot here.
This island is not self-sufficient in water, it has water delivered by tanker throughout the year.
There are 2 ports to dock there, I preferred "Katapola" for its location
Katapola is an entity which includes 2 other villages which are following: "Rachidi" and "Xilokeraridi"
These 3 villages are quite small, there are a few fewer tourists and fewer shops
In "Katapola" there is a small street with a few shops and I found 6 mini supermarkets (in all in the 3 villages)
Xilokeraridi
I advise you to visit "Xilokeraridi", which is a very pleasant little fishing village.
Do not hesitate to climb to the heights and walk along the coast.
Moreover, by extending the path you can go to a charming little chapel at the edge of the water wedged between 2 beaches
The first beach at the exit of the village (before the chapel) is composed of pebbles but the second (there is a small steep but doable path) is in a second hollow and it is composed of fine sand + crystal clear water. She is superb
Its name is "Maltezi Beach"
There is a small bar and it is also possible to access it by boat from the port of "Katapola"
Aegiali
It is easily possible to get to "Aegiali" by bus from "Katapola"
It is the second port allowing to dock at "Amorgos", the town is a little bigger and therefore a little more developed, there are several shops and a real supermarket
A beautiful sandy beach is located in the extension of the small fishing port
I advise you to go for a walk to "Patamos" the village just above 15 minutes on foot uphill
"Patamos" is very charming with its countless stairs
You will be welcomed by an imposing church.
If you have time you can go to the village of "Lagada" (40 minutes on foot) or "Tholaria" (45 minutes on foot)
The bravest can reach "Chora" in 4h30 of walking (several paths start from "Patamos")
