The 82nd is a pretty good unit. We destroyed them more than once in war games though. Like the Marines, and the 101st they are light infantry. Able to depliy quickly but not real effective against a heavy mechanized force. They don't have enough firepower to deal with the heavier armed, mobile mechanized units like the 1st, 4th, or 3rd Infantry divisions. We caught them dropping their equipment in using C-130's during reforger in 1982. (Germany) We circled the drop zone and when the troopers dropped in we captured or killed the whole lot. Everyone had MILES on and we never lost a single soldier.
TheAmazingChristianBigot , When we invaded Iraq in 2003, the Marne division (3rd ID) had to wait 2 days for the Marines to get to Bagdad before they'd let us enter. That's when The Thunder Run happened. Politics made us wait and our commander got bored.
Gabriel Arcari...The average American doesn't understand the amount of corruption that exist with these corporations and our government. For instance, the government tells Lockheed they want 300 F-22s. For whatever reason, they only end up making 100 F-22s. The government will pay Lockheed for 300 even though Lockheed only built 100 because the contract was for 300, so a plane that should have cost 50 mil ends up costing 150 mil each. Another good example is office furniture. A military member cannot go to staples or office max to get a new chair, they have to use a gov approved contractor to get the chair and it will cost 3 times more than the one at staples. This is just the tip of the iceberg. The most disturbing thing about all of this is how many in congress are always trying to cut our force to dangerous levels and putting so much stress on the troops and trying to cut our service members retirement and benefits instead of cutting from the exorbitant contracts
So true..the corruption must end! the power of the military industrial complex must be broken and it begins with non corrupt politicians..not politicians paid by Wall street and the industrial military complex...there are some politicians that are worthy..
