Nice Bessemer engine from 1923 running the sawmill. You can hear it work around the 1:20 mark. Rated 85Hp at 250RPM. This was recorded at the 2011 Bruce County Heritage Show in Paisley Ontario.
That's interesting. One I saw at a historical village near me (Ruston branded 1920's engine) was started from a typical little aircompressor charging up a rather large tank. Didn't take much to start it mind you. If most others do need 200 PSI then I can understand where you're coming from.
***** the last time I was at eureka springs, the town was all gay and all of the cool old equipment was left to neglect at the old train station (that stopped using their cool old steam engines) sad to say. That has been almost 10 years ago.
I think I saw 5 or 6 power strokes where that monster was actually working hard.😁 I'll bet they had fun keeping the belt on that flywheel until they got it up to speed. Surprised there's no actual PTO pulley on the crankshaft?🤔 *EDIT:* Just noticed that there IS a pulley on the other side, but it's too small to spin a sawmill, even if it was running full rated rpm.😉
As long as they don't cinch it down solid, it will be fine, as long as it's allowed to move a bit. If not, it will rip the bolts out of the mounts, unless the engine is actually mounted on solid concrete.😉
