Up to this point of Shin's life, Eugene was his second friend, who happens to be an Alba as well (Annette being his first and only friend before Eugene). The people he met in the battlefield, the five hundreds or so of fallen, were more like comrades, they gave him the task to carry on and reach their destination. No wonder Shin being so fucked up mentally till ep 22, thinking "even the very gentle guy with a sister I met in the library died on me like that" Lena wasn't his friend, Lena was Shin's dying hope that he will be remembered as well, his major afterall.
People first thought they were pitiful children forced to battle. But then, they saw how strong to the point of scary they were. Their glass image of the 86 was shattered, and some started to fear and ostracize them. What you can't control, scares you.
I can understand what Shin had to do to Eugene, not because of the Legion, so Eugene wouldn't feel any Pain anymore. I know this because my Grandpa told me his War experience when was in the US Navy during WWII on the Invasion of Tarawa Atoll. My Grandpa was a Landing Craft Operator and he was bringing back Wounded US Marines to the Hospital Ships. But when he was getting more wounded Marines he was running towards a live US Marine, but a Japanese Mortar Shell hit between them and my grandpa flew 20 feet. He started to wake up because the US Marine woke him up calling my Grandpa "Boats" because of his patch having Boatswain Mate on the Patch. When my grandpa woke up seeing the Marine right in front of him and said thanks, and when the Marine turned to face him, Grandpa saw a big giant hole on his right side, Blood and guts were coming out of him. The adrenaline was keeping the Marine alive and not feeling any pain, but the US Marine knew that he wouldn't be going home so he asked my Grandpa for his Sidearm and to not look back, and continue getting the wounded back to the Hospital ships. My Grandpa gave his Sidearm to the Marine, My grandpa told me the last look he saw on the Marines face was a smile and my grandpa turned and ran about 15 steps until he heard his Sidearm going off. Grandpa never looked back and he continue getting the wounded on his Landing Craft, and sending them to the Hospital ships. Even though Grandpa was not like Shin but he gave his Sidearm to the Marine when he asked for my Grandpa's Pistol in order to end his suffering and pain before the adrenaline was about to wear off. Also, seeing Eugene's body like that, he............ he could not be recovered or saved in anyway. So Shin pulled the trigger and ended Eugene's Pain and Suffering after seeing his Sister's Picture for one last time.
Soldiers are incredibly superstitious, the slightest bit of perceived luck, good or bad, can drastically effect the morale of a unit. The 86, who had a chance to not fight, and instead returned to the battlefield are already seen as loose cannons. On top of that, the units they're attached to have a high attrition rate, lending an air that they don't care about who they're fighting with, as long as they get to destroy the Legion. While it might be seen as a positive to have such strong fighters in your unit, if they have a reputation of being sole survivors or always fighting alone regardless of everyone else, it will engender a strong bit of superstition about them. Sure, Shin will make sure you don't turn into Legion parts, but it'd sure be a lot better if he saved you instead. Despite no longer being discriminated because of San Magnolia's trash policies, now they're being ostracized purely on their ruthless performance on the battlefield.
That's not his name and he's not the same race as Raiden. Raiden's ancestors came from the same area where Bernholdt and other Vargus people were living before the war.
@@leoboussami yea I can't spell for shit , and I said race group the vargus are a group of races considered to wild and only allowed to be soldiers, raiden is a Eisen (part of the vargus group) and bernholdt is never given a race but we know he's a vargus his eyes means he probably a Citrine or topaz and we can't know unless they show him when younger but he might have some Aquila blood in him
Yep! Shin's dream vision is real. Rei is in a legion unit carrying Shin and his friends, made the long walk to Federacy territory, and allowed himself to be destroyed. :( Rei probably did some kind of sneaky trick to temporary evade Legion mindcontrol. The instructor's chew out of the guys who lost control of their mech is actually classic tank tactics. Don't go over the crest of the hill because you expose the unprotected belly of your vehicle. The author is a military history otaku. The new models are named after a Valkerie, pronounced Rhe-Jin-Laif. As for things being same as always--Federacy is not the Republic but it isn't perfect. 86ers a bunch of elite foreign fighters not afraid of death with no families to mourn their passing. So yeah, you are just seeing the beginning of it. It's gonna get intense!
