I like to think of up to episode 11 as the true ending and everything after that as an alternate ending. Cause I also kinda felt it pretty concluded after they all “died”. It makes for a good short tearjerker anime with a good message and story. But it’s cool seeing the “alternate ending” tbh

No, the dinosauria unit that was with them when they arrived at the Federacy was Rei, nickname of Shin's brother. Not the original, but only a Black Sheep with Rei's fragmented memory.

The anime didn't really do a good job of explaining it. I learned about it after someone mentioned in a comment in one of the reactor's videos.

@@user-mn1wc1xw5l Shepherds differ from Black Sheep in that because they have human-like thoughts and emotions, they will never accept that there are other copies of themselves, or in other words, they are just a copy. That will easily make Shepherd confused and lose control. To avoid this situation, Shepherd can only have 1 single entity. If that entity is defeated, all data will be transferred to another machine with the same type. So when you see a Shepherd, it's always its original and unique self.
