The ref was way too involved. Passivity calls were aggressive and killed momentum. Stalemate calls were often times made during position improvement. Great match, though. Outstanding wrestling!
@Anthony Ruiz I disagree, he was able to get in on the legs he just couldn’t finish. You have to realize Zahid looking “awful” against the returning Gold Medalist is a shallow statement. Zahid struggles in the strength department which is evident. He needs to get stronger that’s it.
@@jt519 agreed. Almost feel like Zahid needs to drop weight class, I don’t see him battling Taylor anytime soon. Zahid is better when he can use his length.
It’s not Zahid’s time yet but he’s coming. He’ll be a world champion one day. He just ran into an arguably top 4 or 5 guy in the world, no matter weight class.

Both comments are true. I think Taylor was undefeated in Pennsylania, ouch that’s tough. Possibly winning even as a 8th grader? Someone can fact check me. And zahid is a 3timer from ca with 4 Ironman titles. He got 3rd as a sophomore wrestling with a broken ankle. 😅 both have been studs before they were even in HS. Let alone now. We are in an amazing time in history with how much talent is in the Us.
David had been passive from the get go. We need better refs. Very impartial reffing. David had only been countering the entire time. David should have been called for stalling.
in wrestling tradition or any sport of that sort going on your knees is a sign of defeat. for a lot of American wrestlers going on their knees, and/or escaping the mat has become a score gaining/saving tactic, thanks to the new rules. This is declination of values, from sportsmanship to "scoresmanship". congratulations you modern wrestlers, you did it.
Th reff was stopping the wrestling way too quickly and way too often from front head lock position. Ruining wrestling. Let them wrestle the position out.
Zee avoid wrestling David because they favor him just as if Jordan would wrestle David, they favor David just listen to how they comment the match. Very subtle, and deceiving.
I love and follow wrestling but this is exactly why more people don’t bother watching or following. Way too many rules and nonsense, do you hate fans ???? SMH common wrestling community you are making it way more difficult than it needs to be with so many rules the commentary doesn’t even know what is going on so how could the average fan!!!
I think that problem exists way more in freestyle and Greco because both have far more subjectivity in how the matches can be called. Folkstyle is far less confusing and subjective, the issue people have with Folkstyle is that it's common for the pace of matches to get slowed down with not much action at least scoring wise with long rides
This crew is especially bad and involved in this match. Other commenters hit on it too. The passivity calls come at weird times rather than natural breaks in the action, missed calls on the edge. The weird caution and 1 on Zahid as well is a total question mark, the judge looked at it 1 time and realized it was the wrong call.
Freestyle and folk style wrestling should RETURN to it ORIGINAL form catch wrestling. Yes the form that gave us pro wrestling. As in pin Or submission and NO points. Plus some organizations allow DIRECT , not just indirect, chokes ( is rear naked chokes).
Except for minors. Then they can still do what used to be called amateur catch as catch can wrestling ( freestyle). In fact Snake Pit Wigan will NOT teaches catch wrestling to minors.

Agree that the ref was far too involved. Another boring, no true action freestyle match. I respect both wrestlers, but freestyle these days can be so boring with bs technique.
