I was out there around this time last year. My friend lives in Morgan Hill near 152 so that road was the first one I drove on. I took 152 to Watsonville, 1 to Santa Cruz, 9 to Saratoga, and the back roads backnto Morgan Hill thru South San Jose past Chesbron Reservoir on Oak Glen Ave. Great route. I also did all of 130 to I-5, then 152 to Gilroy, and 101 back to Morgan Hill. 9 was more of a driving road, while 130 was more scenic. Both were amazing.

Have you tried Metcalf Road? In South San Jose, not too far from Mt. Hamilton. Worth checking out- taken my M4 there more times than I can remember. Also used to go to Alice's a lot, seems like since Covid it's gotten very popular and there's a lot of traffic (unless you go very early or on a weekday). Also 280 from San Jose to San Francisco is just amazing- whenever I go to SF I take 280 if I have the time, beautiful views.

Yes, I think I drove Metcalf Rd once a few years ago. It's a little out of the way for me, and a very short road, so I think for me it wasn't worth a return trip. You're right about Alice's, it is very popular now and the area is often crowded on the weekends. You definitely have to go out there early to find clear roads, or be super lucky if you go mid-day. 280 is fantastic, I used to think of it as the autobahn of the Bay Area. High speeds, gentle curves, and beautiful scenery as you say.

@@86drive86 The trick with roads like Metcalf is to make a longer loop with other shorties. You can nearly drive around the whole bay without taking a big highway. Metcalf goes to Baily, McKean, Almaden, Hicks, and Kennedy road, and then you're next to 17 in Los Gatos and can hit the whole Peninsula.

Thanks for your list! I have a 23 Aspec/Tech package 6 speed Integra that needs some good driving roads! I'm in East Bay-so close!

Awesome, enjoy! Be careful though, as I mentioned in another recent video, several roads on this list have been destroyed by the recent rainstorms... sadly some of them are closed and may not fully reopen for months or even longer. Check Google maps before you go to make sure you aren't disappointed by a road closure.

Great list. Personally I find 84 has too much traffic and too much drama (crashes). Take a look at Old Santa Cruz Highway, San Jose Soquel Road, and Mt Umunhum. Actually don't tell anyone about Umunhum.

I've driven a few of those, they're a bit far for me but very good! I've heard of Umunhum but haven't tried it...

mt umunhum has too many cops and cyclists now to be a good driving road unfortunally

Finally got around to the hwy 84 to Alices resti drive. Very scenic! However too many cyclist on the road for my taste.

it's definitely worth it to try and go there early in the mornings to avoid other traffic. It can get pretty congested with cars & cyclists later on, especially on weekends.

hwy9 has got to be #1 in my list. just have to wait at spots for traffic to pass before starting. also bear creek road from felton back to 17 is a great drive once it hits the mountain

Absolutely stellar list! I'm also an east bay (Tri-City) local so Palomares/Niles is my backyard loop, I know those roads like the back of my hand haha. Will definitely give Redwood Rd/Skyline Blvd. loop a try soon! I've been G-mapping Pinehurst Rd. which seems narrow and technical, but have you tried that road? If so, what are your thoughts?

Hey, thanks for stopping by! Yes, I have driven Pinehurst quite a bit. As you say it is narrow and technical, and a bit bumpy in places. Still, a lot of fun, just watch out for the super tight hairpin near the north end of the road before it rejoins at Skyline.

You forgot to add caleveras road from Fremont to Milpitas that’s a good drive

I've definitely driven Calaveras a lot, especially when I used to live in Fremont. But it's not on my favorite list because of how narrow it gets and how sketchy it can be with oncoming traffic. Also unfortunately a lot of non-enthusiasts take it as a shortcut to bypass 680 traffic and that could mean being stuck behind a slow car for miles...

Awesome list! I just got a sports car and live in SF. Do you have any recommendations for drives north of the city, across the golden gate?

I haven't driven these in a while, but the ones I know are Fairfax-Bolinas Rd that takes you up towards Mt Tam, and Panoramic Highway. Then even further north check out Skaggs Springs Rd!
