I seriously thought about cutting my hair again because that TWA stage was so much easier. My scalp needs to be cleansed at least twice a week but longer hair takes so much longer to style. Anyway, I’ve been rocking a curly afro with headbands at work (I’m a therapist in a psychiatric hospital now) and I get nothing but compliments about my hair. Ladies don’t be afraid to wear your hair out, natural hair is professional hair! 💅🏾💁🏾♀️
I cut my hair off back in January my hair has been growing by me leaving it alone . I do wash my hair once a week and co wash through out the week because I go to the gym every day . Honestly leaving my hair alone far as not styling it as much has help me plus . Narada has help me in so many ways with how to take care of my hair . 2 years ago when I went natural I was binge watch Narada’s videos and that helped my hair grow to the middle of my back before cutting it off. Thank you Narada ❤️
I had been ignorant about natural hair care. So I had damaged hair over 15 years. Four years ago I decided to care for my hair. In about a month the thin damaged hair fell of and I was left with thick healthy TWA. I had cute headbands on my TWA. I washed conditioned, deep conditioned. Moisturizing frequently kept working for me. Then on awkward stage I still had Afro but from time to time I did box braids. Right now I have 9 inch Afro. I am now at 4 year hair journey I noticed a change. My hair has suddenly developed severe shrinkage on wash day that stretches easily. I’m struggling to find ways to style my hair. I am so HAPPY I enjoyed my TWA. I’m working to find ways to style my hair at the length and condition. My advice to those with TWA is to Enjoy it because your hair will grow fast. Enjoy your beautiful TWA while it lasts😍
I think of moisturized hair as lubricated hair. Water alone cannot lubricate and this is where the need for other ingredients in a product comes from, for me.
I have a twa currently after shaving my hair off completely in December. I don’t think it’s that easy only because I was so used to doing twist outs on shoulder length hair and had no clue how to style shorter hair. However, having shorter hair has made me learn how to master a wash and go. It also cuts a lot of time for wash day and detangling. So it has its pros and cons. I can definitely say this hair journey will be better though because I’ve learned about my hair and hair in general. EDIT: at 17:49 you said something that I’ve learned. EMBRACE THE SHRINKAGE. I had so much breakage in my crown from exactly what you said lol I leave my hair tf alone now 🤣🤣
This was 18 mins and 41 seconds well spent!! Narada, I appreciate you. Always dropping those gems and providing much-needed guidance and encouragement.
very informative. I'm glad you mentioned you used to wash your hair every 2-3 days. My hair is a little past arm pit length. I wear primarily wash and gos. I do not try to stretch my wash and go. I have what some might call 4A hair and my styles usually only last a day or two. So I usually wash every couple of days. I thought that might be too much, but I see it is not. Thank you
Have about 3 inches…I’ve only been doing wash and go’s. My hair is growing beautifully. Plus wash and go’s are so easy and convenient at this length. I set my hair with gel and mousse 3/4 times a week
Great vid! Very informative. Also grease helps me with single strand knots. Or if I'm not using grease at the moment just oiling my scalp and hair seems to help with knots.
I tried to be cute and wear my hair in a twistout for a few weeks. I fingercoiled the ends with a little extra mousse and leave-in to create a curl. After getting rid of all my SSKs last year by cutting and keeping my hair twisted and stretched, I now have SSKs all along the back portion of my hair where my coils are the tightest🤦🏽♀️. Im going back to my basic routine of twists, stretching/ tucking my ends and rollersets. These SSKs and I are about to become besties because I am NOT cutting my hair again 😄.
I’m starting my natural hair journey over again this year which I’m so happy about I transitioned back in 2014 and cut it in 2015! Throughout those years I wasn’t doing the right things to my hair I used heat a lot, I didn’t get a trim for 5 years so my ends are really bad, and I wasn’t moisturizing my hair like I should have, etc! I was being super lazy and careless with my hair! Now that I know what I know now lol I want to start over! Especially with all the tips and info you have given Narada thank you!!!!
I totally know my single strand knots were due to dryness. The pandemic forced me to learn natural hair care. Still learning. But now my hair grew from tea to bra strap length over this year. Still learning but you are right moisture is key. I would wait till my hsir was so dry to moisturize it! Another mistake was now that my hair is longer my routine needed to change. Finger detangling for me was not removing all the shed hair. Now I use the curly tangle teaser and do much better. Thanks for the reminder that you gotta change routine with growth!
Narada you was over it and I’m here for it. Please keep doing your videos like this. And also great tips for twa’s. My hair is longer but I could still take info from this. Thanks, we appreciate you! 💕💕
I appreciate your info. Personally, I always wanted thick hair (I actually didn't know what kind of textures I had before I became natural and hair was growing out of the TWA into the awkward stage) but my hair just lays flat no matter what I try to do--Unless I decide to rock afro in which I don't do often because I have fine strands and medium density. Wearing in afro often would cause breakage for me (also my hair doesn't look so big and fluffy either in afro). Anyway, I'm learned to embrace my hair and accepting what it cannot do (meaning growing into a thick & fluffy afro). Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You don’t know how much I needed this video. I Have a 2in TWA and I’m not sure what to do with it. I see large knots everywhere and I’m getting scared. You came through as usual, posting videos with great, professional knowledge.
I can attest to shorter hair being stronger because when I had my tapered cut, I could really do whatever and my hair was fine but once the top started growing out...I had to adapt.
When should we start protective styling on twa I reckon I’m at 5-6 inches now and I’m worried about friction, tangles ect with keeping it in a fro especially at night although I use a bonnet
I think I’m apart of that one percent because I hydrate (w/ spray bottle mister) and then seal w / an oil every other day, I live in the desert so this is necessary. I wash weekly, confine my hair in twist or braids, then pretty much leave it alone, maybe take it out on day 5-7 to see it but that’s it, and the STK’s are everywhere especially in the front 😭😭
Lost hair after surgery and cut it off.. I’ve been neglecting my hair because I’ve been healing so I’m looking to get my hair back.. it’s been breaking off, bald spots and all
When my hair was a twa and I started getting a couple inches the worst part was how my hair in the back shrinks up more than the front I tried to do wash n gos but the shape was so funny despite my hair being all one length that I had to just pick it and when i finally got to a length I was comfortable trimming I cut off a lot bc the single strand knots were crazy
You tired you tieddd🤣 omggggg thank you for video I just recut my hair 2weeks ago 💜💜💜💜💜 twa is simple and easy I got tired of doing my hair tbh I wanted to enjoy twa stage 😁 p.s I'm also in the scissor happy community 🤣
I struggle with single strand knots. They're not excessive so I assume its genetic. I'll have a whole 8 inch strand with a node in the middle. I figure if it's not breaking off then I'll just embrace them lol
Hello love your content. I use a liquid but what l don't understand is how when l was little my hair was healthy and down my back. My mom rarely washed my hair. All my mom would do is use Vaseline. JUST SAYING 🙂
hello first and foremost I love your show. here is my question what does it mean after you wash your hair nice and clean when you comb it little bits of hair are all over the place?
😭 I have severe hand in hair syndrome. Which led to breakage and damaged hair. Then I decided to relax my hair and that made it worse. Now I’m transitioning and it’s been six months. It’s getting rough and my hand in hair syndrome is getting bad again. I now want to cut the hair. Y’all 🤦🏾♀️🙆🏽♀️
Do you have any recommendations for moisturizers for low, high, and average porosity? I've tried so many but still have not found a moisturizer that keeps my hair hydrated
my hair only stays moisturised for 24 hours. a lot of people think you hair has to stay moisturised for a week or 2 or 4. That is simply not the case for many people.
I have high porosity. Try adding aloe vera juice when doing LCO or LOC which ever one you prefer. Also check the moisture ingredients because sometimes your hair might be allergic to something in it for me it is coconut oil.
If hair is weaker when wet, is it not bad to comb it while wet and use a moisturizer that locks in the water? Another youtuber said that we have to comb hair dry! 😯 Thanks!
I wash my hair every 3 days because I workout six times a week and its doing well.i use a sulphate shampoo then a gentle cleanser and I was wondering...should I be using a rinse out conditioner that comes with my sulphate cleanser ? Or any conditioner is fine as long as it's hydrating?
