camera direction is definitely an important one, and easily forgotten when in the field setting up a cam. sunrise and sunset can sure wreck some pictures. just as important, is to clear the cam's field of view of moving objects. a swinging branch or swaying grass can keep your cam taking pictures all day. and really important, before committing to buying a pricier cellular t-cam, is to walk your areas with your phone, checking the reception in your intended spots.
We always point our cameras in a northerly direction. N/E, N/W or N. East and West have the rising and setting sun and it doesn't matter what time of the year it is, the sun always sweeps to the south(in the northern hemisphere). I like head high also. We used to put them at belt buckle level and got great pics, but once we put them head high, our pics doubled and even tripled. Great video.
Make sure their aren't any branches or brush nearby causing false triggers. Don't know how many pictures I have gotten of branches swaying in the breeze. In the example given above, I would have broken the little branches off in the near field of view.
Recent models can discriminate vegetation from a real animal, so less false positive, but it drains the batteries in a few days as the little computer inside is working everytime something moves ! So yes, better clean the vegetation at least a few meters in front of the camera. I'm still looking for a way to monitor a small pond in undergrowths, where I can't remove all bushes and aquatic vegetation close to the cam, and I don't want to come and replace 4 or 8 batteries every few days...
All great points Mike also it is AMAZING how many squirrels I get on my camera, the last sd card had 13 in one frame..I might have to include some biscuits and gravy with some of them.
I agree with your tips.... especially avoiding east and west orientations. I'd rather have a half-dozen relatively cheap cameras than a couple of really nice ones, and I've had good success with StealthCam model STC-P12 and STC-P14 models which can be had in pairs for about $80. I take 3-picture bursts with 30 seconds between activations - a standard setting. Customized settings can be set, if desired. I have two SD cards per camera, so I can swap out cards when I visit each camera location. The trail cam is definitely one of the best tools in the hunter's toolbox.
Great video and very useful information. My son and I actually have 4 of these cameras and have them setup in the Monongahela National Forest in Greenbrier County, WV. We had two setup last year, 2017, that we got two more. Great pictures and battery life. Juddie - J & J TOA
Glad you like it but I returned mine because you can’t adjust anything. It’s either one pic or one short video. Correct me if I’m wrong but pretty sure that’s the same cam I had.
I use the exact same camera for one of my locations it's probably my best one you should check out my most recent trail camera pics you will enjoy actually it's trail camera video but yeah I'm like you it's all about the camera great video by the way great tips
I'm aorry...I would never patronize the Busbice family that owns wildgame brand trail cams....these people are no good...look into their background...the old man is Bill Busbice
I use Bushnell s about $100 eight batts get us from Sept to Jan....real real cold sap their energy...to have them up high stick a branch behind the box to have. it point down...lately we have gone to 10sec motion you get a better idea....nice Buck !!! I use Excaliburs
Was interested, but then saw the date.. some good points. I've dropped the cheap trail cam idea, after Wildgame, lots of Primos, etc. Switched to Browning Strike Force and do 20 sec video with 5 sec in between events. Awesome clear videos and on 6 of the pink bunny lithium batteries. One of five camera's recorded over 1000 20 sec video's on one set of 6 bats. Found that rechargeable batteries do not last that long. The main complaint with these cheaper cams is they last a couple months past the one-year warranty.. then crap out. All too consistent to think it is not pre-programmed into the camera.
Good tips. I have the same camera, can't beat it for the price. My local Walmart has them for $46. I just found Dick's sporting goods has them on sale for $35 and free shipping. I just ordered another one. Not sure how long the sale will last.
Good tips thanks, just subscribed to your channel, we also love the outdoors here in UK living in country, just bought our first Trail cams APEMAN H45 1080p 12mp, we're touring the states next year so looking forward to seeing your country and trails. Can I ask what camera you shoot your youtube videos with? Thanks.

Great video! I have always used Bushnell Trail Cams. They are a little expensive but they last. The Bears mess with our cameras.i am to try the wild game cam. Thanks
#7....don't set it next to a gate! lol mistakenly put one on a post next to a gate. as the wind blew the gate would move.....700 pictures and videos of nothing! oh well, live and learn...
So when you approach to camera and you want to find out if you have any pictures on there do you shut the camera off first and then pull your SD card out
Nice cameras! I use cheap rechargeable batteries from ebay in mine and they work great. EBL is the brand name printed on them. The technology is still changing to a point where the pictures are sent directly to your phone. A buddy of mine was able to catch a camera thief when his was stolen because he got the picture on his phone. I also like the fact that I don't bump the deer when checking the camera. Great video! Thanks!
Personally I like CuddeBack cameras. They are more expensive than Wildgame, but way less than the most expensive digital trail cameras. I believe CuddeBack has been a leader in the innovation and development of these types of cameras over the years. Although their cameras are now made in China (I'm guessing they all are), it's a US company. I own several of their cameras and what little problems I have had in the past was quickly addressed to my satisfaction by the company. Check out their website to view their photo galleries - thousands of cool pictures.
Mike,do you POST your land against public access ? I saw what looked like a signboard at the beginning of this video. IT seems like you live on a fairly busy highway so posting would be necessary to make it safe for you and family .
I bought the same camera a few weeks ago. So far a couple of does, a squirrel, a cat, and a baby Big Foot (oops that was me..) all on video mode. When I read the instructions, (needed reading glasses) it said the batteries should last for a year.
HumbleHeart said what I was going to say too. This video is right on the money Mike, I was just today looking at Amazon,( here in Canada ) for a low cost TrailCam. so that I might start seeing what walks through my woods. I am not a hunter, but I do like guns, and shooting holes in paper targets and collecting . This has helped me to go ahead and order a camera. That Terra10 is not available here on Amazon.ca, but they do show it's 'little brother the Terra5. (I wonder what that one's like?) Well, I just might order one and see, unless somebody's got a better idea of what we should order. Thanks for this.
Great helpful video,I just bought two of these cameras and was looking for tips to use them .I have been subscribed to your channel for about 6 months and really enjoy it. Steve from Orrington Me.
Nice work now lets some Pics that you get. And you will like the box stand I have them up about 6 ft. and have a budy heater in it . LJK in northern Minnn.
Just got one of these while doing some trading. I like it but I cant use it because i keep getting an error message when i put the sd card in. I'm on my 4th different sd card and ive formatted them all before trying them and all ive got so far is a quick full then error message. Any ideas or tips please? Thank you!
I actually bought one for my home lol. Someone has been taking things from my home and I'm gonna catch em' 🤟 thanks for your help. I know no one will expect this to be in my home lol
Hello I have enjoyed your videos so much and very nice to see folks that enjoys the outdoors as much as I do. Please keep the videos coming and also love the family!!
Hi mike thank you for your trail cameras I will go buy two of these cameras so when I leave my truck and trailer in the woods when to use come along nearly will try to steal my wheels trailer wheels so we have a picture of them from Allen have a good day Mike
I don't hunt but I do photography and been using trail cameras for 3 or 4 years. Its nice to see whats using an area before I set up to photograph. I have pics of deer, bear, coyote even fishers. Your dead on about direction. you did a great video.
I had game cameras upto just a few years ago that the battery's would die in a week. Got tired of messing with them. I'm gonna try these out. Thanx. Keep up the good vid's.
You need to be sure and purchase the IR (Infra-red or the "black flash or no flash" type of camera. The old style "flash" cameras used a lot of juice and batteries went fast. If they don't have to flash batteries last much longer.
Mike, try and put it about knee level. I have a few different types of cameras from regular bright flash, IR cameras and black flash that will not glow at all. I've had really good luck with pictures and the bucks will look like giants. I do have a RU-vid channel but I don't know how to edit videos, I have a lot of trail cam videos to put on there but it takes forever
Outdoors With The Morgans . I noticed that there were 2. And I thought.....excellent preparation Mike. Hmmmm.......2 knives......2 cameras. Perhaps there should be........2 tractors?
The videos are numbered, but more importantly Im amazed at something, I get very few negative comments or haters on this channel from people like you, but when I do they all have one thing in common. Almost all of them have to edit their comments. So its like they try their hardest to bring someone else down, they read the comment and are like"no wait, I should say this instead lol. Now here's a tip for you, trying to bring someone down doesn't lift you up, doesn't work that way.
